1.0 INTORDUCTION
Gantt charts and precedence diagrams are two prominent project management tools that help
with project planning, scheduling, and progress monitoring. Using both tools, project
managers may visualize the many tasks and activities involved in a project, their
interdependence, and the timescales for completing each work. The Precedence Diagram is a
network diagram that shows the relationships and interdependence between project
operations, as contrasted to the Gantt Chart, which is a bar chart that shows a project schedule
across time. In this post, we will compare and contrast the primary qualities and benefits of
Gantt Charts and Precedence Diagrams to determine which tool is most suited for different
project types.
This study will demonstrate that, when it comes to scheduling, Gantt charts are the most
commonly used type of data visualisation; they feature an activity list, durations, and task
linkages. Precedence diagrams, on the other hand, are more of a scheduling tool. It can also
be used in instead of Gantt charts in some circumstances. When you analyze all of the
relationships between the activities, it gets more complex as the number of activities grows.

2.0 DEFINITION OF GANTT CHART AND PRECEDENCE DIAGRAM
GANTT CHART
A Gantt chart is a project management tool that depicts the link between completed work and
scheduled time for a task. A Gantt chart can display task start and finish dates, milestones,
task linkages, assignees, and other information. A Gantt chart, a type of bar chart depicting a
project schedule, displays the start and finish dates of a project's tasks or activities, as well as
their dependencies. A horizontal timeline runs along the top of the Gantt chart, commonly
representing the project's duration, while tasks or activities are recorded on the left side. Each
task or activity is represented on the chart by a horizontal bar that spans the whole duration of
the task, with beginning and ending points that correspond to the task's start and end dates.
Arrows linking the bars are widely used to illustrate work interdependence. Gantt charts are
commonly used in project management to help with project planning, scheduling, and
monitoring, as well as to keep stakeholders informed of their status and progress.

PRECEDENCE DIAGRAM
The precedence diagram method (PDM) is a project planning tool used for scheduling tasks.
It involves creating a project schedule network diagram where tasks are represented as nodes
(boxes) and their dependencies are shown as arrows connecting these nodes. Also known as a
Dependency Diagram or Project Network Diagram, PDM illustrates task relationships with
arrows or lines, indicating the direction of dependency and often labeling the type of
relationship. This method helps to assess the impact of schedule changes, identify critical
paths, and detect potential bottlenecks. It is commonly utilized in project planning and
scheduling software to develop and manage project schedules.

DISCUSSION FOR ITEMS
According to the precedence diagram, the project will take approximately 80 weeks to
complete. While the Gantt chart on Microsoft Project states that the project ended on
October 14, 2024.
There were four different events with a 65 total float. Activity D follows activity B,
with a total duration of 15 weeks, and activity B comes before, having a total duration
of 15 weeks. Activity F comes in third with a 12-week total float. Lastly, with a total
float of 23 weeks, activity G has the biggest float of all the other activities.
Our team is using Microsoft Project for the construction project, and this is shown in
the Gantt chart. This feature enables us to specify the project's duration, start and
conclusion dates, and progress while the work is being prepared. The act of entering
the data required for the software to compute the required outcome for this task
greatly aids in our comprehension of the project's flow.

6.0 CONCLUSION
Gantt charts and precedence diagrams are valuable tools for managing and
planning building projects before they begin. While both are effective for project
management, they serve different purposes.
Gantt charts and precedence diagrams in this project report illustrate the
expected completion date of the proposed project. These tools allowed the project
manager to accurately coordinate factors such as manpower and material delivery to
meet the deadline. Modern project management software, with its easy access and
user-friendly interfaces, significantly simplifies project planning compared to
traditional methods.
A Gantt chart displays the start and end dates of each activity, the dependencies
between them, and the overall project schedule. This visualization helps project
managers track progress, identify delays, and adjust schedules as needed. Gantt charts
are particularly useful for simple projects with few activities and dependencies.
In summary, both Gantt charts and precedence diagrams are essential project
management tools, each serving distinct functions.
