Social Phenomena
In this society,
we should know how we influence everyone by understanding differences of masculinity and
femininity.
Everything started from a theory that seeks to explain social phenomena.
The module 4 contains few slides of lecture may seem unimportant but the content
serves its purpose. Just like other lectures, it introduced gender and how it could connect to
sociology. This term refers to sociology of gender in which it describes how society influences our
perception with masculinity and femininity that help us understand each person's behavior.
Based on the study of sociologists, it may be analyzed at different levels. It may be the micro
level that analyzes small social patterns while the macro level deals with large social patterns.
We can also examine sociological perspectives by three; structural functionalist, conflict theory,
and symbolic interactionism that differs only from level of analysis but the only goal is to
understand issues in sexuality. It also tackled feminism that refers to the belief that women and
men have equal opportunities in life. The feminist theory is most known in society about gender
since it doesn’t support sexism and patriarchy. Because of this, feminist movement has evolved
regarding women's rights in communities and nations. It also presented some of the feminist
thinkers and activists that we should be proud of, namely; Marcus Cato, Christian de Pisan,
Laura Cerets, etc. All these names proved that we should seek equality in gender especially
relating to societal standards. One of the well known activists and professor, Kimberle Crenshaw
coined the term intersectionality that best defines interconnectedness of nature of social
categorizations. In intersectionality it shows how discrimination and negative thoughts may meet
at intersections that could actually affect human’s life.
As a woman, I look forward to more studies that could enhance the understanding of the
society how equality should work.A big credit to the activists and professors who further do
studies and stand for their rights. Without them, maybe up until now, women aren’t receiving their
rights and experiencing worse than just discrimination. I believe that when women work together,
it is a success and it's always for the right cause. It is about supporting each and everyone as we
are empowering one another.
The claim that feminism is just unnecessary, discourages equality and denies the rights
and lives of every girl and woman. It's not about who’s strong but it's about how we see strength
that could change the world.
