Assignment#3

1. Demand for TV’Sony’ increases 10 units for any reduction of its price of Rp 100,000
each. When its price equals Rp 2 million each, no one would buy the TV. On the
other hand, the Sony’s company would stop selling the product if the price is lower
than Rp 1million, and they would sell 20 units for any increase on the price of Rp
100,000.
a. Determine the demand and supply function by assuming linear function of
demand and supply.
b. Calculate the price and quantity of market equilibrium.
2. A group of engineers is interested in forming a company to produce smoke
detectors. They have developed a design and estimate the variable costs per unit,
including materials, labor, and marketing cost, are $22.50. Fixed cost associated
with the formation, operation, and management of company and the purchase of
equipment and machinery total $250,000. They estimate the selling price will be $30
per detector.
a. Determine the number of smoke detectors which must be sold for the firm to
break-even on the venture.
b. Preliminary marketing data indicate that the firm can expect to sell
approximately 30,000 unit. Determine expected profit at this level of output.
3. A company manufacturers two products, A and B. Each unit of A requires 3 labor
hours and each unit of B requires 5 labor hours. Daily manufacturing capacity is 150
labor hours. If x unit of product A and y units of product B are manufactured each
day and all labor hours are to be used, determined the linear equation that requires
the use of 150 labor hours per day
a. How many units of A can be made each day if 25 unit of B are manufactured
each day
b. How many units of A can be made each week if 12 unit of B are manufactured
each day? (assume a 5-day work week)
c. A company produces three product , each of which must be processed through
three departments. In the table summarizes the hours required per unit of each
products in each department. Monthly labour-hour capacities for the three
department are 1,600; 800 and 1,800 hours, respectively. Determine whether there
is a combination of three product which could be produced monthly to consume all
of the labour –hours in each department .
