I. COURSE TITLE : GEEL 11 – LIVING IN THE IT ERA

II. COURSE REQUISITE : None

III. CREDIT UNITS : 3 units

IV. COURSE DESCRIPTION : This course allows student to explores the science, culture, and ethics of information technology, its various
uses and applications,
as well as its influence on culture and society. It also aims to strike a balance between conceptual instruction and
socially and culturally
oriented discussions as it not only explains the basic concepts or key terms in IT but also features the major IT
trends along with the
issues and challenges these developments bring.

V. COURSE OBECTIVES :

1. orients students to the concepts of ICT and IT;


2. examines the different parts of the computer system, and the categories of computer peripherals;
3. articulate the types of networks, wired and wireless connections used in a computer system
4. trace the origin of the Internet and its evolution, and
5. tackles the issues on information control and privacy with reference to the Intellectual Property

VI. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the end of the semester, students are able to:

1. recognize the concepts of IT and ICT (PO13) (ILO 3A);


2. identify the different parts of the computer system;
3. appreciate the pervasive effect that new technologies can bring and
4. describes the evolution of Internet;
5. Deliberate the issues regarding the use of technology
