and X mark if not.
What You Need to Know?
PERIOD OF THE EARTH’S ROTATION
The Earth rotates on its axis continuously, we cannot tell what we feel
the Earth’s rotation, but it’s actually completes a one whole rotation. The
Earths rotates on its axis in about 24 hours, with respect to the sun but once
every 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4 secs with respect to other distant stars.
As the earth rotates, only half of the earth faces the sun at any given time
the half facing the sunlight is day. At the half facing away the sunlight is
night, so that does mean that all places on earth experiences any day and
night.
A CTVITIES
1. How long does it take the earth takes to complete its rotation?
A. One month
B. One day
C. 24 weeks
D. 24 days
A. 6
B. 12
C. 24
D. 48
3. Which of the following is the exact hours of the earth one rotation around the sun?
A. 23 hours 56 minutes
B. 23 hours 59 minutes
C. 24 hours 56 minutes
D. 24 hours 59 minutes

Heads and Tails. Rearrange these half sentences so they make sense. Write the complete
sentence in your notebook.
Example:
1. Day happens when the part of the Earth you are on is pointing towards the sun.
What You Need to Know?
REVOLUTION OF THE EARTH
While the Earth is rotating on its axis it is also traveling around the sun in a path
called orbit. The Earth’s orbit is not perfect circle, instead it is slightly elliptical in shape.
The motion around the sun and the amount in takes for a single rotation is called
revolution.
A CTVITIES
What To Do
1. Make a trip to the house backyard. Let a pupil who shall represent the sun stand at
the center. Let another member of the family who shall represent the earth stand 3
meters away.
2. Make a path drawn around the sun-pupil.
3. Observed the path drawn around the sun-pupil. Let the earth-other member of family
walk along the path around the sun until he returns to his starting point.
4. Take note of the 2 points when the sun is nearest the earth.
5. Take note of the points when the sun is farthest from the earth.
Questions
1. If there are points when the earth is far and point when it is near the sun, how will you
describe the shape of the earth’s orbit around the sun?
_____________________________________________________________________
2. How would you call the event by which a body follows an orbit and goes around another
body?
____________________________________________________________________
3. If the earth revolves around the sun, what revolves around earth?
_____________________________________________________________________
Activity No. 2- REVOLUTION
Directions: Fill in the blanks with corresponding words that describes the revolution of the
Earth.

As the Earth rotates on its axis, the Earth also travels around the sun in a path
called orbit. The motion around the sun which called a revolution. The amount it takes
for a single trip around the sun is a period of revolution. The period for the Earth to
revolve around the sun is 365 1/4 days. This period defines as a year.
The calendar we presently use; the Gregorian Calendar only uses 365 days. So
to compensate for the excess time to keep the calendar in a syn with a revolution of the
Earth, a leap year is used every four years. A leap year adds one day to the end of
February.
A CTVITIES
1. How many days does the earth takes to complete its revolution?
A. 365
B. 365 1/4
C. 365 1/2
D. 366
2. What will be the next leap year if the year 2016 is a leap year?
A. 2017
B. 2018
C. 2019
D. 2020
3. One complete revolution of the earth around the sun is called
A. Day
B. Night
C. Month
D. Year
4. Every __________ years we take the extra 1/4 days from previous years combine them
and add extra day to the calendar.
A. 4
B. 5
C. 6
D. 7
5. The month of ______________ is added one more day every leap year so instead of 28
days it has 29 days every leap year.
A. January
B. February
C. March
D. April
Directions: Draw and design the leap year 2016 calendar for the month of February , you
may use the format below.
Directions: Make your own version of doodle or poster art that represents the information
you know about the period of earth’s revolution. You may use variety of colors or art
materials of your choice.
