CONJUNCTIONS. WHAT ARE THEY?
WHERE DO THEY LIVE? WHAT DO THEY EAT?
Conjunctions are linking words like and, or, but, then and because:

They knocked down all the houses and they built a car park.

FOR
We can use FOR in 2 forms.
As a preposition, it is connected to a noun.

“I have a gift for Letícia.” “I’m waiting for hours”.

As a conjunction, it’s used to justify/explain a motive.

I drank some water, for I was thirsty. She put on a sweater, for it was cold outside.
AND
And/Also/Plus can be used to connect two words or phrases.

My cat’s eyes are amber and blue. I like pizza and sushi.

Lizzy plays the piano and sings. Vince sings and dances.
BUT
We can use BUT in many forms.
As a conjunction, it is used to connect two phrases or clauses, specially when connecting
opposing ideas.
A variation to BUT is the conjunction HOWEVER!

YET
As a conjunction, yet is similar to but. It’s used to contrast ideas or sentences.

It was sunny, It’s a new car, She’s a baby,


yet it was very cold. yet the door is broken. yet she loves books.
OR
We can use OR to connect possibilities or choices.

Do you prefer cats or dogs? Which color do you want, Which is your favorite pokémon,
blue or pink? Squirtle, Bulbasaur or Charmander?
NOR
We can use NOR after a negative sentence to add another negative
sentence.

“I don’t like salad.” “I don’t like meat”.


I don’t like salad nor meat.

SO
So/Therefore can be used in many forms.
As an adverb, it shows intensity.
She was so angry with the Birds are so cute when
presentation, that she lost control. they sleep.

As a conjunction, it is used to connect a cause and consequence.


I drank six cups of coffee, I finished homework,
so I have a headache. so I can play video-games.
