• According to the study done using the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red List of Ecosystems -- a global standard
for measuring the health of ecosystems, climate change threatens one-third (33 per cent) of the mangrove ecosystems.
• Deforestation, development, pollution and dam construction pose a serious threat to mangroves, but the risk to these ecosystems is
increasing due to sea-level rise and the increased frequency of severe storms due to climate change.
• This study classified the world's mangrove ecosystems in 36 different regions called provinces and assessed the threats and risk of collapse
in each region.
• One-third of the world's mangrove ecosystem provinces will be severely affected by sea-level rise, with 25 per cent of the global mangrove
area predicted to be submerged in the next 50 years.
• These ecosystems protect 15.4 million people and USD 65 billion worth of property per year from coastal disasters. In 2050, this could rise
to 15.5 million and USD 118 billion because of population growth and rise in property values.

ice, and the influence of clouds on this radiation.
• The CubeSats will be placed in asynchronous, near-polar orbits, allowing them to crisscross over the Arctic and Antarctica, measuring
thermal infrared radiation.
• PREFIRE data will be publicly accessible through Nasa’s Atmospheric Science Data Center, allowing researchers and the public to benefit
from the mission's findings.
• The PREFIRE mission is a collaborative effort between Nasa and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory
manages the mission and provides the spectrometers, while Blue Canyon Technologies built the CubeSats.

• 55 Cancri e is classified as a super-Earth, meaning it is larger than Earth but smaller than
Neptune.
• It is an exoplanet also known as Janssen and is a super-Earth. It is located in our Milky Way
galaxy about 41 light-years from Earth, in the constellation Cancer.
• It orbits its star at one-25th the distance between our solar system's innermost planet
Mercury and the sun. As a result, its surface temperature is about 3,140 degrees Fahrenheit.
• It completes a full orbit every 18 hours or so.55 Cancri e has a mass about 8.8 times that of
Earth and a diameter approximately twice the size of our planet.
• News Link - Astronomers finally detect a rocky planet with an atmosphere - The Hindu
• 55 Cancri e was discovered in 2004. At the time scientist thought that it was a gas giant,
similar to Jupiter or Saturn.
• But in 2011, researchers found that it is a lot smaller and denser than a gas giant, meaning
it is a rocky exoplanet, much like the Earth.
• The JSWT data indicate that 55 Cancri e atmosphere is probably rich in carbon dioxide or
carbon monoxide and has a thickness that is “up to a few per cent’ of the planet’s radius.
• NASA’s James Webb Telescope: The telescope has been in the works for years. NASA led its development with the European Space
Agency (ESA) and the Canadian Space Agency. It was launched aboard a rocket on December 25, 2021.
• One light-year is equal to 9.5 trillion km.

• On 19 May, Blue Origin successfully completed its seventh manned space flight and the 25th for the New Shepard program.
• Gopi Thotakura was one of six members of the crew, including Mason Angel, Sylvain Chiron, Kenneth L. Hayes, Carroll Scholar and former
Air Force Captain Ed Dwight.
• Each astronaut left for space with a postcard from Blue Origin's foundation, Club for the Future.

• The first one was Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, who flew to the Salyut 7 space station on a Soviet spacecraft in 1984.
• There are two main types of space tourism, sub-orbital and orbital.
• The sub-orbital spacecraft takes passengers just beyond the Kármán line — it lies nearly 100 kilometres above our heads and is
considered to be the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space.
• The passengers get to spend a few minutes in outer space and then come back to Earth.
• The NS-25 mission, which Thotakura is a part of, is a sub-orbital mission.
