A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in English III


I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to:
a. Identify cause and effect is a short story.
b. Construct a short story that shows cause and effect relationship.
c. Display cooperation and participation in the class discussion.

II. Subject Matter

III. Learning Procedure


Introductory Activity
1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of Attendance
4. Energizer
5. Classroom Rules
A. Awareness
Review the previous topic.
(The teacher will ask about the previous topic)
B. Activity
The teacher will divide the class into three groups. Each group will be given a cut-out picture.
The pupils must form the whole pictures based from the cut-out given by the teacher and explain
what the picture is all about in front of the class.
C. Analysis
 The teacher will ask the pupils about their observation on the activity they had.
 The teacher will ask the pupils what should be the topic.
 The teacher will discuss what is cause and what is effect.
Cause-Something that makes other things happen. Out of two events, it is the event that
happens first. To determine the cause, ask the question “Why did it happen?”
Effect-is what happening as a result of the cause. Out of two related events, it’s the one that
happens second or last. To determine the effects, ask the question “What happened?”
(The teacher will provide an example of cause and effect)
D. Abstraction
The teacher will ask the following questions to the pupils.
1. What is cause?
2. What is effect?
3. What comes first, the cause or the effect?
4. Give me an example that shows cause and effect relationship.

To determine the cause and effect, always remember that the cause comes first out of two events
and it answers the question “why did it happen?”. On the other hand, the effect happens second
or last an it answers the question “what happened?”

E. Application
The teacher will divide the class into two groups. Each group will construct a short story that
shows cause and effect relationship. They will identify the cause and the effect and present it in
front of the class.

IV. Assessment
Read the story carefully. Identify the cause and effect. Write your answer on the space provided.
1. Today was the last day of school. The grade three pupils of Ms. Joyce were very excited.
Ms. Joyce was trying to teach a math lesson to her class but her pupils were not paying
attention. Pupils were drawing on their papers and talking to each other. Ms. Joyce gave
warnings but eventually they lost 5 minutes of recess.

2. The last show was finally over. The students at Bonbon Elementary had worked so hard
on their role play. In the end it was worth it. The entire room was filled with cheers and
applause.

3. At five o’clock in the afternoon, Alex was on his way home from school when the heavy
rain suddenly fell. He was not carrying an umbrella so he was forced to go home walking
in the rain. Alex was very wet when he came to their house. The next morning, he felt a
headache and had a fever.

4. Mobile Legend is one of the games that young people are addicted to. This is an online
game. Because of this game many young people are no longer follow what their parents
asked them to do.

V. Assignment
Construct a short story that shows cause and effect relationship. Identify what is the cause and
what is the effect.
