Mental Maths:
Multiplying Consecutive Numbers (Part 2)

Find the value of 105 × 106.

STRATEGY
Step 1: 105 – 100 = 5 [subtract 100 from the smaller number]
Step 2: To find the last two digits of the answer,
5 × 6 = 30 [multiply the result obtained in step 1 by a number one greater than it]
Step 3: To find the first few digits of the answer,
106 + 5 = 111 [add the result obtained in step 1 to the larger number]

105 × 106 = 11 130
