Method Statements
Method Statement

X-Seal PU25

1.0 Labor
Application of sealants is a skilled trade and should only be carried out by
experienced technicians. Application by unskilled labor may result in a poor
surface finish, variable depth and high wastage.

2.0 Estimating
The following calculations can be used to determine the number of sachets
required for any joint size:

In 600ml sachets of sealant: JW mm x SD mm x JL meters

1000 x 0.6

JW = Joint width, SD = Sealant depth, JL = Joint length

3.0 Joint Design Considerations

Movement joints should be designed to allow a sealant width to depth ratio
of 2:1.

In order to allow movement to be accommodated over the full width of the

sealant the sealant must be de-bonded at the base of the joint.

4.0 Joint preparation

Joint should be accurately formed. Concrete substrates must be at least 28 days
old. Joint edges must be sound, dry and free from any contaminants. Concrete
joint edges must be prepared by wire brushing to produce a lightly roughened
clean laitance free surface. Remove all dust and debris by vacuuming or blowing
with oil-free and dry compressed air. Non porous surfaces should be cleaned
using a solvent that is compatible with the surface being cleaned. Remove any
frost or moisture from the joint by drying with a heater. Care should be taken to
ensure that the joint is formed to the required depth and any expansion joint rod
or board is tightly packed in place.
5.0 Priming
Priming is not normally required on good quality substrates for construction,
control joints and normal movement expansion joints.

6.0 Gun Loading

Use an X-Seal Sealant Gun or similar. Cut one end off the foil sausage and load
into the gun with the open end towards the nozzle.

7.0 Application
Mask the off the area to be sealed to prevent excess sealant from contaminating
the façade or concrete surface. Gun the sealant firmly into the joint making sure
that the joint edges have full contact with the sealant. Finish the sealant surface
using soapy water and a sealant finishing tool.

Protect the joint from contamination from dust, sand and surface water until the
joint surface has become tack free.

8.0 Cleaning
Clean equipment using X-Seal Cleaner.

9.0 Limitations
Allow to cure fully before disposal
Do not apply in rain or wet conditions or at temperatures below 40oF (4oC).
Do not use in contact with asphalt.
Do not use in immersed conditions.
Do not expose to aggressive chemicals

10.0 Health and Safety

This product is for industrial use only by trained operatives.
It is potentially hazardous if not used correctly.
Please refer to the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) prior to the
purchase and use of this product. The MSDS can be obtained via our
