What is Global Civil Society ?
Global civil society
Global civil society consists of international
organizations, movements, and networks driven by
shared values like social justice and environmental
sustainability. These groups include NGOs, grassroots
movements, and faith-based organizations, among
others. They collaborate across borders to address
global issues like human rights abuses, poverty, and
environmental degradation.
1. Human Rights Organization Advocate
(HRW, NAACP, CDF, OHCR, ACHPR, AHRC)

A human rights advocate is


someone who speaks up for
fairness and equality. They work
to protect people from abuse,
discrimination, and injustice.
Advocates raise awareness, help
victims, and push for laws and
policies that respect everyone's
rights. They can be activists,
lawyers, journalists, or even just
regular people who care deeply
about making the world a better
place for everyone.

Children's Defense Fund (CDF)

its scope is primarily domestic, CDF's advocacy efforts
often intersect with global human rights issues, such as

OHCHR plays a crucial role in shaping global human

African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights
(ACHPR)
African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights
(ACHPR) ACHPR is a regional human rights body
established to promote and protect human rights in
Africa. It monitors human rights situations, investigates
violations, and provides recommendations to African
governments. The ACHPR works closely with civil society
organizations across the continent and contributes to
global human rights efforts, particularly in addressing
regional challenges and promoting African perspectives
on human rights.
• Focus: They make sure people in Africa are treated
fairly and have the same rights as everyone else.

• Impact: Their efforts have led to better laws and


protections for people in Africa, making life more fair
and equal.
Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC):
Asian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) is a regional
human rights organization focusing on Asia. It
documents human rights abuses, provides legal
assistance to victims, and advocates for justice and
accountability. While its primary focus is on Asian
countries, AHRC also engages in global human rights
advocacy, collaborating with international partners and
contributing to broader discussions on human rights
issues.

arrests, and not being able to speak freely in Asia.

• Impact: Their work helps protect people's rights and


freedoms, making life safer and fairer for everyone in
