ENGLISH 7

GRADE LEVEL STANDARD


The learner demonstrates communicative competence through his/ her understanding
of Philippine Literature and other texts types for a deeper appreciation of Philippine
Culture and those other countries.
CONTENT STANDARD
The learner demonstrates understanding of: Southeast Asian literature as mirror to a
shared heritage ; coping strategies in processing textual information; strategies in
examining features of a listening and viewing material; structural analysis of words
and propaganda techniques; and grammatical signals for opinion- making,
persuasion, and emphasis.
PERFORMANCE STANDARD
The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a persuasive speech based
on an informative essay featuring use of properly acknowledged information sources,
grammatical signals for opinion-making , persuasion, and emphasis, and appropriate
prosodic features, stance,and behavior.
COMPETENCY: React to what is asserted or expressed in a text EN8RC-IIIe-2.1.7:
Competency integrated within curriculum: Raise sensible, challenging thought
provoking questions in public forums/panel discussion, etc.EN70L-III-h-1.3.1
Competency integrated across the curriculum: Explain the factors that affect the
promotion of good mental health H7PH-IIIa-b-28
I. Objectives:
At the end of the 60 – minute discussion, students should be able to:
a. express one’s reaction to what is asserted in the context;
b. construct provoking question from assertion presented; and
c. identify factors that affect the promotion of good health

II. Subject Matter


Topic: Assertion and Reaction
Reference: English 7, Module 6, Quarter 3 (MELC Aligned)
Materials: Laptop, Smart TV, Handouts
Values Integration: Promote ways towards good mental health.

III. Procedure
A. Preliminary Activities
Prayer
 The teacher ask a student to lead the prayer.
 The teacher greets the class warmly and lively. The teacher
shows them care by asking them on how they spent their day.
Checking of attendance
 The teacher tells the class secretary to take charge in taking
attendance.
Setting the atmosphere of the classroom
The teacher welcomes the students and remind them with the
classroom rules which are as follows:
a. Respect your classmates.
b. Raise your hand if you want to participate or ask question.
c. Try to always speak in English during class period.
d. Always listen and follow instructions.

1. Review the past lesson


The learners will be asked questions to check how well they have learned in
their previous lesson.
 What is the importance of the main idea a paragraph?

2. Motivation
Picture Analysis
The teacher shows a pictures to the class. The teacher tells the class to analyze
the pictures shown and they are going to express their ideas regarding the
pictures by answering the following questions:

3. Presentation of the objectives


The teacher presents the lesson objectives and lets the students familiarize it as
these are the goal that they need to achieve.
After the presentation of the objectives, the teacher discusses its connection
with the previous topic to stimulate students’ schema.

B. LESSON PROPER
The teacher discusses the lesson by using a PowerPoint Presentation

C. ACTIVITY
The teacher divides the class into six (6) groups and instructs them to
go to their respective groups. Each group will be given different task
to perform. During the presentation, the students must have a short
yell using the dialect of the language they are comfortable with.

Groups 1, and 2: Express your reaction to what is asserted in the poem “Health is
Wealth” by Chintalapati Hima Bindu. Express your answer in a form of poetry.

Group 3 and 4: Construct provoking questions from the assertion presented in the
poem “Health is Wealth” by Chintalapati Hima Bindu.

Group 5, and 6: Analyze the assertion provided and express your reaction to what is
asserted in the context in a form of a short dialogue.

1. Drinking a glass of milk can make our bones and teeth healthy and strong.
2. My friend Shella invites me to eat at Jollibee since it is the best fast food in town.
3. If you eat and then immediately go swimming you will get stomach cramps.
4. The sky is blue.

D. ANALYSIS
 How did you identify assertion from the given context?

E. ABSTRACTION
 Why is it important to recognize our assertion?
 Does analyzing the assertion helps us give positive feedback or
reaction?

F. APPLICATION

Groups 1, 2, and 3: Create a short role play about the topic of your
choice that best demonstrate assertion and reaction.

Group 4, 5 and 6: Create a comic strip about the topic of your choice
that best demonstrate assertion and reaction.

IV. Evaluation
d. The teacher asks the students to read the passage. Then, the students
will identify the factors that affects the promotion of good health. In a
1/2 crosswise students have to express their reaction towards the
assertion mentioned.

Many factors combine together to affect the health of individuals and


communities. Whether people are healthy or not, is determined by their
circumstances and environment. To a large extent, factors such as where we live,
the state of our environment, genetics, our income and education level, and our
relationships with friends and family all have considerable impacts on health,
whereas the more commonly considered factor such as access and use of health
care services often have less of an impact.

V. Agreement
Read in advance the story “My Father Goes to Court” by Carlos Bulosan. Be ready
to present your summary of the story during our next meeting.
