Individual Assignment: Annotated Bibliography

Theme: Exploring Animal Topics

Objective
Through the exploration of five (5) sources, students will develop the skills to summarize, paraphrase,
analyze, and critically evaluate information while honing their ability to use IEEE citation format.
Students may choose a specific area of interest within the broader field of animal-related topics.

Instructions
1. Topic Selection:
Choose a specific topic within the broad theme of animals that piques your interest. This can
include, but is not limited to, animal behaviour, conservation efforts, veterinary medicine, ethical
considerations, or the impact of animals on human society. Write a brief introductory section (one
to three sentences) to present and explain your topic.

2. Source Criteria:
• Locate and select five (5) sources related to your chosen animal topic.
• Ensure that at least three (3) of these sources are peer-reviewed. Peer-reviewed sources can be
found in academic journals or reputable conference proceedings.

3. IEEE Citation Format:

• Format your annotated bibliography using the IEEE citation style.
• Include a complete citation for each source, providing the author(s), title, publication source,
publication date, and any other relevant information.

4. Annotation Components:
• For each source, write a concise summary of its main ideas, key findings, and methodologies.
• Analyze the credibility and reliability of the source. Consider the author's qualifications, the
publication source, the currency (date), and any potential biases.
• Identify and explain the source's relevance to your chosen animal topic and its contribution to the
broader understanding of the subject.

5. Synthesis and Conclusion:

In 250 words or less, conclude your annotated bibliography by synthesizing the information from
the five sources. Identify common themes, controversies, or gaps in the literature, and discuss
how these contribute to the overall understanding of your topic.

6. Organization and Formatting:

• Use a clear and coherent writing style, utilizing proper grammar and punctuation.
• Submissions must be single-spaced and set in Times New Roman 12-point font with regular 1-
inch margins.
• Annotations and conclusion must be written in paragraph form (no point-form).
• Each annotation should be between 100 and 200 words (not including the bibliographic/citation
information).

7. Submission Guidelines:
• Submit your annotated bibliography to Brightspace in Word (.docx) or PDF format.
• Due Date: February 9, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. (EST)
