Question No. 2
Question Write a character sketch/profile about one of the characters in the book. Think of it
like a short biography of the person using details from the story but also your own
insight into the character.
Today, I am talking about a book called The Giver. Before talking about my favorite character, I
need to briefly introduce the book summary to you.
I would say this book is stimulating, and somewhat philosophical. It challenges some of our nor-
mal beliefs. We all like equality rights, we all like everyone to be equal and no one will feel infe-
rior to others. But imagine you are living in a community where absolute equality is the norm.
This means, you process, is other also process, you don't earn more or own less. At the first
sight, life is good, you don't have to compete. but if you take a deeper look, absolute equality re-
views more problems than solutions. Everyone in the community has to follow the straight pro-
tocol, and you are absolutely not allowed to deviate from it.
To make sure everyone is equal, so there is no one can stand out for others, such as actresses,
actors, entertainment, and art.
And this is the community where my favourite character-Jonas, lived in. Jonas is the main char-
acter of the book, a juvenile. Gradually had his own thinking which was different from the others
in the book. Jonas used to love the place where he lived, he thought that it is normal to live in the
community that I wrote about above. But as time passed, and since he has his own critical think-
ing, he started to realize the black side of this good-looking and peaceful society. Finally, he
managed to escape.
Jonas is the protagonist, or main character, in the novel. He is a sensitive, polite, compassionate
12-year-old boy. He was a dynamic character. He changed during the novel due to his experi-
ences and actions when he was the GIVER (A very important guy for the community and he
stored all the good and bad memories).
The reason why Jonas is my favourite character is that he had his own thinking, unlike others.
Although I don't know if it was a good and responsible decision for Jonas to escape, he is still my
favourite character.
