Part 1: Multiple Choice Questions

1. Emma works in an office space at a certain building. Each floor of the building has 6
office spaces. If there are two floors below her office and three floors above it, at least
how many office spaces are in the entire building?

A. 36
B. 48
C. 54
D. 72
Answer: A
Emma's floor (1 floor) + 2 floors below + 3 floors above = 6 floors
Total apartment units
= 6 floors × 6 spaces/floor
= 36 office spaces
2. Tommy bought four toy cars for 12 pesos each. If he paid the toy store with a fifty-
peso bill, how much change did he get?
A. 1
B. 2
C. 4
D. 5
Answer: B
The cost of each toy car is ₱12, and Tommy bought 4 toy cars.
Total cost
= 4 toy cars × ₱12/toy car
= ₱48
Tommy paid with a ten-dollar bill, so the change he received is:
Change = Total cost - Amount paid
= ₱50 - ₱48
= ₱2
3. If Mickey ate 1 apple in each column first, and then Minnie ate 1 apple in each row,
how many apples had been left in the figure below?
A. 15
B. 16
C. 17
D. 18
Answer: C
There are 4 columns and 7 rows of apples.
Total apples: 4 × 7 = 28
Mickey (eats 1 per column):
28 – 4 = 24
Minnie (eats 1 per row):
24 – 7 = 17
4. Counting numbers from 7 to 13 are arranged in the small boxes below. If the sum of
a line of 3 boxes (horizontal, vertical, diagonal) is 30, what could be the value of A?
A. 7
B. 8
C. 9
D. 10
Answer: D
If A gets to be added on each of the line, that means the sum of the numbers on the empty
cells of each line must be equal.
The consecutive numbers are:
7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13
To get equal sums we must add:

7 + 13 = 20
8 + 12 = 20
9 + 11 = 20

We are only left with 10 and 10 + 20 = 30.

Therefore, A = 10.

5. There are 21 unit-squares below. At least how many squares of different sizes are
there such that each of the square has at most one color?
A. 21
B. 23
C. 36
D. 38

Answer: B
There are already 21 unit-squares.
We can also get green 2 by 2 squares:

21 + 2 = 23
6. Which of the following makes the statement below true?
(3 + 3 + 33 + 3) ________ (50 − 12 + 4)
A. is greater than
B. is less than
C. is equal to
D. None of these
Answer: C
3 + 3 + 33 + 3 = 42
50 – 12 + 4 = 42
Thus, the two expressions are equal.
7. Lily has four candies, Jack has five candies, and Mia has six candies. If they share the
candies equally among themselves, how many candies does each of them get?

A. 3
B. 4
C. 5
D. 6
Answer: C
Let’s get first the total number of candies.
4 + 5 + 6 = 15
15 is to be distributed equally to them.
15 ÷ 3 = 5
3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 15
8. Which of the following does not belong to the group?

Answer: D
Looking at our figures, we can see that Figure A, B, and C shows vertical symmetry:

But Figure B does not:

You can say an image/object has symmetry when you fold it in half, both sides match
perfectly.
9. A red bird lays an egg every fourth day, and a blue bird lays an egg every fifth day.
How many eggs in total does a red bird and a blue bird lay in 8 days?

A. 2
B. 3
C. 4
D. 5
Answer: B
The red bird lays an egg every fourth day, so in 8 days: 4 + 4 = 8 → 2 eggs
The blue bird lays an egg every fifth day, so in 8 days: 5 + 3 = 8 → 1 egg
However, since we cannot form another set of 5 days, that means the blue bird hasn’t laid
an egg yet. So, there will only be 1 egg.
Total eggs = Eggs laid by red bird + Eggs laid by blue bird
Total eggs = 2 + 1 = 3
10. Which symbol has the largest value?
+3+2+ +6+1 =8+2+ +1+3−6
A.
B.
C.
D. They are all equal.

Answer: B
Let’s simplify first the two sides of the equation:
❤️ + ♠️ + 12 = ♣️ + 8
We can see that the right side of the equation is only added 8 which is lesser than what is
being added to the left side of the equation. Since both sides have to be equal, the value of
♣️ should be greater in order to compensate.
Part 2: Open-ended Questions
11. If there are two halves in a whole and four quarters in a whole, how many quarters
are there in 6 halves?

Answer: 12
A half is made up of 2 quarters.
For 6 halves, we would have
2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 + 2 = 12
or 6 × 2 = 12 quarters.
12. How many two-digit numbers are exactly 65 more than a two-digit number?
Answer: 25
Say the minimum two-digit number is 10, and the maximum two-digit number is 99.
Thus, 10 + 65 = 75. This is the minimum two-digit number (75) that is exactly 65 more
than a two-digit number (10).
From there, we count up until the sum is at the maximum two-digit number:
11 + 65 = 76
12 + 65 = 77
…and so on.
Therefore, we just count from 75 until 99.
(99 - 75) + 1 = 25
13. A 4-digit number is called a 'LUCKY' number if the sum of the first two digits is equal
to the sum of the last two digits, and no digit is repeated. How many 'LUCKY' numbers
with 2 as the first digit and 7 as the fourth digit are there?
Answer: 4
Let the 4-digit number be represented as ABCD.
Since we are looking for 'LUCKY' numbers, the following conditions must be satisfied:
1. A + B = C + D
2. No digit is repeated.
Since A is given as 2 and D is given as 7, the conditions become:
2+B=C+7
B, C must be distinct (not the same) digits.
Rearranging the equation from condition 1, we get:
2+B-2=C+7–2
B=C+5
Now, we need to find pairs of distinct digits B and C where B = C + 5, or where the difference
between them is 5 and B is always 5 more than C. The possible pairs are (5, 0), (6, 1), (7, 2),
(8, 3), and (9, 4). Here, since no digits is repeated, we exclude (2, 7) since we already have
these digits for A and D, respectively.
So, the 'LUCKY' numbers are:
1. 2507
2. 2617
3. 2837
4. 2947

14. Jason is 7 years older than Olivia. In 2020, Olivia is 10 years old. How old will Jason
be in 2026?
Answer: 23
Let J represent Jason's current age, and O represent Olivia's current age.
The given information is:
Jason is 7 years older than Olivia: J = O + 7.
In 2020, Olivia was 10 years old: O = 10.
Substitute O=10 into the first equation to find J:
J = 10 + 7 = 17
We then need to add the years after 2020 to this year:
J = 17 + (2026 - 2020) = 17 + 6 = 23
Therefore, Jason is currently 23 years old.
15. In a candy shop, there are 2 available flavors of lollipops on a stick. Alex wants to buy
4 lollipops. In how many ways can he buy lollipops?

Answer: 5
The order doesn't matter on this case. We need to consider the combinations where all the
candies are the same flavor and remove the double counting for combinations with mixed
flavors.
Here are the possible combinations:

4 of the same flavors:

4 flavor 1s: 1 combination (1111)
4 flavor 2s: 1 combination (2222)
→ 2 combinations
3 of one flavor, 1 of another:
3 flavor 1, 1 flavor 2 (1112 or 2111)
3 flavor 2, 1 flavor 1 (2221 or 1222)
→ 2 combinations
2 of each flavor:
2 flavor 1, 2 flavor 2 (1122 or 2211)
→ 1 combination
Therefore, when the order doesn’t matter, Alex has a total of 2 + 2 + 1 = 5 different
combinations.

16. The sum of the digits of the year 2037 is 12. In how many years will this occur again?
Find the shortest period.

Answer: 9
The digits of the year 2037 add up to 2+0+3+7=12. This is the condition we want to meet.
We can ignore the first two digits since we’re trying to find the shortest period of years.
Let's analyze the possible years to find the shortest period when the sum of the last two digits
is 10.
The possible pairs of values that would add up to 10 are:
(1, 9), (2, 8), (3, 7), (4, 6), (5, 5).
Hence, the last two digits could be:
19, 91, 28, 82, 37, 73, 46, 64, 55
Since we are looking for the next occurrence, the value of the last two digits should not be
less than or equal to 37. By elimination, our list becomes:
46, 55, 64, 73, 82, 91
Among the values, we get the smallest value, which is 46.
46 – 37 = 9 years.

17. How many three-digit numbers are there such that in the tens place is 7 and no digit
is repeated?
Answer: 64
For a three-digit number where the tens place is 7 and no digit is repeated, the number can
be represented as x7z, where x and z are distinct digits.
The hundreds place (x) can be any digit from 1 to 9 (excluding 7, as it must be distinct):
→ 9 – 1 = 8 possibilities (excluding 7)
The units place (y) can be any digit from 0 to 9 (excluding 7 and the digit chosen for the
hundreds place).
→ 10 – 2 = 8 possibilities (excluding 7 and x)
The total number of three-digit numbers is the product of the choices for the ones, tens, and
hundreds place:
8 × 1 × 8 = 64.
18. Jemma has three types of snacks. All except 7 are cookies. All except 4 are candies. If
there are at least two cookies, what is the least possible number of candies Jemma
has?
Answer: 5
Let’s look at this problem on a Venn diagram.
Let X be the third type of snack alongside candy and cookie.
All except 7 → 7 snacks are not cookies
All except 4 → 4 snacks are not candies
Amount Condition Type of Snack
7 snacks Not cookies Candy & X
4 snacks Not candies Cookie & X

If we have at least 2 cookies, following the Venn diagram, we would also have 2 of Snack X
and then 5 of the candies to satisfy the conditions. Therefore, the minimum number of
candies is 5.
19. It takes 3 blocks to build a one-layer tower, and 10 blocks to build a two-layer tower.
At least how many blocks will be used to build a 6-layer tower?
Answer: 78
Let’s try to look at our figure layer by layer.
• To make a 1-layer tower, we need 3 blocks.
• To add a 2nd layer, we need 2 sets of 3 blocks (encircled), and 1 supporting block
(marked X). Hence, (2 × 3) + 1 = 7.

• To add a 3rd layer, we need 3 sets of 3 blocks (encircle), and 2 supporting blocks
(marked X). Hence, (3 × 3) + 2 = 11 .
Continuing this pattern, we have:

Layer 1 3×1+0 3
Layer 2 3×2+1 7
Layer 3 3×3+2 11
Layer 4 3×4+3 15
Layer 5 3×5+4 19
Layer 6 3×6+5 23
We get a total of
3 + 7 + 11 + 15 + 19 + 23 = 78 blocks.
20. The clocks below show what time the show Paw Patrol starts and ends on the
Nickelodeon channel. How many minutes does the show run?
Answer: 95
Starting time is 8:30 o’clock.
Eng time is 10:05 o’clock.
Subtracting,

There are 60 minutes in an hour. For 1 hour and 35 minutes, we have

a total of
60 + 35 = 95 minutes.
21. What number should replace the letter A below to make the statement true?

Answer: 11
Let X be the singing bee.
𝑋 + 𝑋 + 𝑋 + 𝑋 = 12
4𝑋 = 12
𝑋 = 12 ÷ 4 = 3

Let Y be the reading bee.

𝑋 + 𝑋 + 𝑌 = 10
3 + 3 + 𝑌 = 10
6 + 𝑌 = 10
𝑌 = 10 − 6 = 4
Hence,
X + 2Y = A
3 + (2 × 4) = A
𝐴=3+8
𝐴 = 11

22. Lyn only has yellow, blue, and violet crayons. How many ways are there to color the
following shapes below if the rectangles must not be colored using a primary color?

Answer: 9
The primary colors are red, yellow, blue. Violet is not a primary color so we only have 1
choice of color for the rectangles.
For circles, we have three choices of color.
Total ways = choices for rectangle 1 × choices for rectangle 2 × choices for circle 1 ×
choices for circle 2
Total ways = 1 × 1 × 3 × 3 = 9 ways
23. A group of 50 children were asked to pick at least one but not more than two favorite
colors. The bar graph below shows the result. At least how many children chose two
colors as their favorite?

Answer: 11

Red – 9
Green – 18
Blue – 23
Yellow – 11
Total: 9 + 18 + 23 + 11 = 61
The count exceeded the number of 50 students. That means that the extra count would also
be the number of children that chose 2 favorite colors. Thus, 61 – 50 = 11.
24. The beaker can hold up to 100 mL of liquid. The blue liquid below is exactly between
the two hash marks. What volume of blue liquid should be added to make it full?

Answer: 50
100 mL is distributed into 5 spaces or 5 hash marks. That means each hash mark is
100 ÷ 5 = 20 mL
20 + 20 + 20 + 20 + 20 = 100
The liquid level is at 2 spaces and halfway of the 2nd and 3rd hash mark. Half of 20 is 10.
Thus, the volume of the blue liquid is
20 + 20 + 10 = 50.

25. Equally spaced dots are arranged as follows. At least how many squares can you make
by connecting at least four dots?
