answer to each of the questions.
Who are the best drivers? According to a recent survey, young and inexperienced drivers are the
most likely to have an accident. Older drivers are more careful. Young men have the worst accident
records of all. They often choose faster cars with bigger engines. One of the most interesting facts
in the survey is that passengers have an effect on the driver. When young male drivers have their
friends in car, their driving becomes worse. When their wife or girlfriends is in the car, however,
their driving is better. But this is not true for women. Their driving is more dangerous when their
husband or boyfriend is in the car. However, if their small children are riding in the car, they drive
more slowly and safely.

Key Points to Remember on Traffic Rules in England
Below are some key points you need to remember when you travel in England.
The general rule of keeping left: When you are driving on a road which is a two-way road, you
need to allow the traffic from the opposite direction to pass from your right side. Similarly, all the
vehicles in your lane also need to be given the right side to overtake.
When you turn: When you are taking a turn, always keep to your turning side, meaning when
turning right, get to the right side of the road and do the same when turning to the left.
Do not park: Surely, you want to park your vehicle as fast as you can, but that doesn’t mean
you leave your car on the side of the road. Find the parking near your building and park it there. If
parking is not available, make sure you are not parking near the bus stand, school, or hospital
entrance.
Do not drive: When you are going on a one-way road, you cannot reverse your vehicle.
Use indicators: When you are changing lanes, overtaking the other can or taking a turn, always
use turn signals or indicators to make follow drivers know about your man oeuvre
Do not cross the stop lines: As the traffic signal, when you get to stop your vehicle due to a
red signal, make sure you are not keeping your car on the stop line or on the pedestrian crossing.
Statements True False

Producing electricity from wind energy has many advantages. Firstly, it brings money into poor
rural areas around the country. It creates thousands of jobs for the local people. Wind energy is an
easy crop for farmers to sell. Farmers do not have to depend on water or sun to make money. Farmers
can receive a lot of money from farm renting. Secondly, wind power does not produce pollutants,
so the costs for health care also decrease. The American Lung Association is in favor of wind energy
because it keeps the air clean and free from pollution. They also launch a Healthy Air Campaign to
promote the use of wind energy.
Wind energy also keeps energy bills down for the users. It is becoming more competitive with
other types of energy in terms of cost. Wind farms leave most of the farmer’s land free for other
uses while providing a steady income.

Solar energy
Solar energy is the energy that we get from the sun and converted into thermal or electrical energy.
Solar energy is a renewable energy because it will never end as long as the sun remains. Solar energy
is also pollution-free because there will be no pollution occurring while producing solar energy.
Solar energy is not only pollution-free energy but also its maintenance cost is very low, so to
maintain a solar power plant, less manpower is required than others. Also, one can get a non-stop
power supply even in the rainy season with the help of solar panels. However, there are also some
disadvantages of using solar energy like the initial setup cost of panels and battery is very high. To
store the solar energy in a large number, one needs a personal room for the batteries. It pollutes the
environment chemically.

Everybody loves movies. We see them at theatres and we watch them on TV. They are popular
with children and adults, too. We can learn from them or we can have a good time watching them.
We also call movies ‘motion pictures’. ‘Motion’ is a noun for ‘moving’. People tried to show
motion in pictures for centuries. Even prehistoric artists showed animals running in their cave
pictures.
Near the end of the 19th century, several Europeans and Americans tried to make movies. No
one knows who made the first one. New York City had the first movie theatre in 1894. People put
money in a small machine and looked into it at the movie. By 1900, movies were popular all over
Europe and the United States. They were not very good, but people liked them because they were
new and different.
Every year people invented ways to make movies better. They invented machines to show the
pictures on a screen. Then everyone could see the motion pictures on the front wall of a theatre
instead of inside a small machine. In 1927, inventors add sound to movies. Then they added color.
Today it costs several million dollars to make a movie. However, movie makers collect million
dollars from people at movie theatres because everyone loves movies.

Airport security was a brief back then. They used metal cutleries and gave all passengers bags
of toiletries to keep them comfortable during the flight. Now, there are many limitations on things
that we can and cannot bring on board. Thanks to "Everyone can fly" tagline, airlines had to reduce
their services to stay afloat. So more people can fly and travel now.
Two decades ago, if you wish to call home, you can only do it at an International
Telecommunications Exchange and dial you home number with no guarantee that it will get
through. These days, all we need to stop by upon arrival is a local SIM card available as you walk
out of the departure hall. The Internet makes it easy for you to Skype, Facetime your family just to
inform them that you have arrived safely.

Travelling in the future
Transport today is mostly powered by fossil fuel. The reason for this is the ease of use and the
existence of mature technologies harnessing this fuel source. The drawbacks are that they are
heavily polluting and rely on limited natural resources. There are many proposals to harness
renewable forms of energy, to use fossil fuel more efficiently, or to use human power, or some
hybrid of these, to move people and things.
The list below contains some forms of transport not in general use, but considered as possibilities
in the future.
A hyper loop is a proposed mode of passenger and/or freight transportation. A hyper loop is a
sealed tube or system of tubes through which a pod may travel free of air resistance or friction
conveying people or objects at high speed while being very efficient.
A dual-mode vehicle is a vehicle that can run on conventional road surfaces or a dedicated track
known as a guide way. Dual-mode vehicles are commonly electrically powered and run in dual-
mode for power too, using batteries for short distance and low speeds, and track-fed power for
longer distances and higher speeds.

VI. Read the following passage and circle the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the correct answer
to each of the questions.
These days, if you want to travel from New York to Beijing, the flight takes about 16 hours. You
also have to wait at the airport, and sometimes you have to transfer onto a different airplane. If you
add all of that extra time, the trip takes at least 20 hours. But in the future, the trip from New York
to Beijing might only take two hours.
Right now, a private company is developing something called ET3. ET3 stands for “evacuated
tube transport technology”. The capsules use electricity instead of gasoline. For international travel,
the capsules can travel at about 6,500 kilometers per hour. That is much faster than airplane - most
modern airplanes usually only fly at about 800 kilometers per hour.
There are other advantages to ET3. Because it uses electricity, it is quite clean. In addition, it is
much quieter than airplanes and cars. Finally, ET3 tubes and capsules don’t require very much
building material.
1. How long might it take from New York to Beijing in the future?
A. 16 hours B. 20 hours C. 2 hours D. 22 hours
2. Is a private company developing something called ET3?
A. Yes, it does. B. No, it isn’t. C. No, it doesn’t. D. Yes, it is.
3. For international travel, the capsules can travel ________.
A. about 6,500 kilometers per hour. B. at 6,500 kilometers per hour.
C. at about 6,500 kilometers per hour. D. at about 5,600 kilometers per hour.
4. Which of the following sentences is NOT TRUE, according to the passage?
A. ET3 uses electricity. B. The capsules use gasoline instead of
electricity.
