HikBasics / Lab Workbook

LAB 2 - NVR
Lab Rules:
 Please mute yourself if you are not actively speaking. If the background noise is too loud I will be
forced to mute you and you will not be able to unmute yourself to ask questions. If you find
yourself in this situation, you may text me at 847-812-2244, reach out through the WebEx chat
window, or select the floatation device from the lab interface.
 Use only the assigned Recorders and cameras even though other devices may appear in your
SADP tool.
 Follow the directions carefully; missing steps or incorrect configuration will cause problems if
not corrected before moving on to the next steps.
 There is no final exam, the labs and the device configuration will make up your final score, so be
sure to complete all steps.
1. Storage Calculation
1. Launch the Storage and Network Calculator tool (the icon is located on the desktop)
2. Input the following data:
a. Channel Number: 4
b. Encoding: H.264
c. Resolution: 4MP(2560x1440)
d. Framerate: 15
e. Scene Complexity: Medium
3. Calculate the total required bandwidth for the provided information.
4. Open the Lab Document (Desktop/HCP/Work Folder/ Lab 2- NVR - Part 1) Write down the Total
Bandwidth (Mbps).
5. Click on Time Given on the top-right side of the window.
6. In the Set Saving Time as field enter 30 Days.
7. Set the recording Time per Day slider to 24 hours.
8. The software will calculate the Required Disk Space. Write it down (specify MB, GB or TB).
9. Click on Space Given (next to Time Given)
10. In the Set Disk Space as field enter 4 and select TB.
11. Set the recording Time per Day slider to 24 hours.
12. The software will calculate the Recording Time.
13. Write down the number of days
14. Click Clear on the top-right corner
15. Prepare to do anther calculation
16. Input the following data:
a. Channel Number: 4
b. Encoding: H.265
c. Resolution: 4MP(2560x1440)
d. Framerate: 15
e. Scene Complexity: Medium
17. Calculate the total required bandwidth for the provided information.
18. Write down the Total Bandwidth (Mbps).
19. Click on Time Given on the top-right side of the window.
20. In the Set Saving Time as field enter 30 Days.
21. Set the recording Time per Day slider to 24 hours.
22. The software will calculate the Required Disk Space. Write it down (specify MB, GB or TB).
23. Click on Space Given (next to Time Given)
24. In the Set Disk Space as field enter 4 and select TB.
25. Set the recording Time per Day slider to 24 hours.
26. The software will calculate the Recording Time.
27. Write down the number of days

2. NVR Activation
1. Launch the SADP Tool (the icon is located on the desktop) if not still open.
2. The SADP tool will detect many devices please refer to the list above for the Mac Address of
your camera.
3. Here is the example from VCN 1 (Virtual Classroom Node). The 1 indicates the VCN and the 2
indicates the camera number. You are looking for the MAC address of your NVR.

4. Activate the NVR.


1. Launch the SADP Tool (the icon is located on the desktop).
2. The SADP tool will detect some devices- 2 cameras and 1 NVR.
3. Activate the Recorder:
a. Put a checkmark next to the device.
b. Enter Hik12345 as a password.
c. Confirm the password- Hik12345 (the “h” is not capitalized).
d. Click Activate.
e. A prompt will appear
i. Click the Folder icon to select a folder where to extract the GUID file
ii. Select Desktop, then select HCP/Work Folder
iii. Click Select Folder
iv. Click Confirm
v. A message will confirm that the file was exported. After it disappears, close
the questions window by clicking the X on the top-right corner.

Please Note: When activating a Hikvision device, the password is being created for the admin account.

3. NVR Network Configuration:


1. Return to or reopen the SADP Tool and locate your NVR.
2. Check the box next to your NVR to open the network configuration dialog box.
3. Refer to the Network Map in Part 1 for the NVR IP Address, or it is on the desktop in the
Key.
4. Modify the recorder’s network settings using the :
a. If DHCP is enabled- disable it
b. In the IP address field enter the IP address indicated for your NVR this can be found in
the Network Map (Lab 1).
c. In the Subnet Mask field enter the Subnet Mask you used for cameras
d. In the Gateway field enter the Default Gateway you used for cameras
e. Enter the password in the Admin Password field.
(reminder: the password is Hik12345).
f. Click Modify.

5. NVR Web Interface:


NVR - Basic Configuration / Time Settings
1. Open Internet Explorer (the icon is located on the desktop).
2. Type in the Recorder’s IP address.
3. The login page will be displayed. Type in the username admin and the password hik12345,
then click Login.
4. Click on Configuration on the top of the screen
5. In System Settings, under Basic Information change the recorder’s Device Name to your
VCN # e.g. if you are lab VCN7 your NVR name will be NVR-7.
6. Click Save.
7. Change the Time Zone to Central Time
8. Select sync with computer.
9. In Time Settings Enable DST. Enter the following information:
a. Start Time: March, Second, Sun, 02:00
b. End Time: November, First, Sun, 02:00
c. DST Bias: 60 minute(s)
10. Click Save.

NVR - Storage Configuration


1. Go to Storage. Then go to Storage Management.
2. Select the HDD
3. Click Format to initialize the HDD.
4. Go to Storage/Schedule Settings
5. Confirm or set Recording and Capture fare set for Continuous 24/7,

NVR – Camera Management


1. Select Configuration/System/Camera Management
2. From the tabs in the Workspace select IP Camera
3. D1 should have been located and started, if not notify me ASAP.
4. Select Camera D-3 to edit by clicking on the edit button at the end of the Row (looks like a
pad and paper) to add channel 2 from camera D1. It uses the same IP address as camera D1.
a. Scroll down and change from Plug and Play to Manual
b. Scroll up enter the camera’s IP address 192.168.254.2 same as channel 1
c. Make the channel #2.
d. Enter the cameras password hik12345.
e. Click on OK
5. Select Camera D-3 to edit by clicking on the edit button at the end of the Row (looks like a
pad and paper)
a. Scroll down and change from Plug and Play to Manual
b. Scroll up enter the camera’s IP address (Network Map or Lab Document)
c. Make the channel #2.
d. Enter the cameras password.
e. Click on OK
6. Does the camera come on line? It can take a couple of minutes.
7. Repeat using the same IP address on D-4 ch 2, D-5 ch 3, & D-6 ch 4.
