I am so excited about having your child in my class this year! Your child’s success and overall well-being is
very important to me. I hope this year will be the best experience your child has had in a math class. I strive to
make understanding math fun and easy. We will be working hard every day in this class trying to challenge
students’ minds in problem solving and higher ordered thinking. I believe that parent/teacher communication
is not only an integral part of a student’s success, but it is vital! Please feel free to contact me at any time.
Sincerely,
Stephanie Sullivan

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Geometry is the branch of mathematics that deals with the measurement, properties and
relationships of points, lines, angles, surfaces, and solids. The word means (geo) earth (metry) measure. Geometry also
deals with logic. Using inductive and deductive reasoning is an integral part of geometric thinking. Geometry is
closely connected to other branches of mathematics such as Algebra, Logic, Probability, and Trigonometry. Real life
applications of geometry will be evident throughout the course

Fall Semester: Basics of Geometry, Reasoning and Proofs, Parallel and Perpendicular Lines, Transformations,
Congruent Triangles, Relationships within Triangles

Spring Semester: Quadrilaterals and other Polygons, Similarity, Right Triangles and Trigonometry, Circles,
Circumference and Area, Surface Area and Volume, Probability.

MYP Mission Statement

The MYP (Middle Years Program) covers the 9th and 10th Grade portion of the
International Baccalaureate. The IB aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring
young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural
understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and
international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and
rigorous assessment. These programs encourage students across the world to become active,
compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences,
can also be right.
