1 Information

System Overview
Thank you for purchasing a Case IH Sprayer with the AutoFold Plus feature by Raven Industries.

The AutoFold Plus system consists of:

• Two CANbus nodes,
• Rotary potentiometer sensors located at each pivot point on the boom of the machine, and
• A Case IH ISO device.

After calibration, the AutoFold Plus system monitors the position of each boom section via the rotary sensors
and allows the controller to accurately control boom folding or unfolding operations. Simply hold the AutoFold
switch and watch the booms unfold or rack automatically. Manual operation of the machine boom functions
remains fully intact which allows the operator to manually rack or unfold the booms if necessary or desired.

Note: The AutoFold Plus system reserves a portion of each rotary sensor’s total range for error
detection. The status of AutoFold operation for each section may be displayed by the Raven
controller.

At Raven Industries, we strive to make your experience with our products as rewarding as
possible. One way to improve this experience is to provide us with feedback on this manual.

Instructions for Wire Routing

The word harness is used to mean all electrical leads and cables, bundled and unbundled. When installing
harness, secure it at least every 30 cm (12in) to the frame. Follow existing harness as much as possible and
use these guidelines:

Harness should not contact or be attached to:

• Lines and hoses with high vibration forces or pressure spikes
• Lines and hoses carrying hot fluids beyond harness component specifications

Avoid contact with any sharp edge or abrading surfaces such as, but not limited to:
• Sheared or flame cut edges
• Edges of machined surfaces
• Fastener threads or cap screw heads
• Ends of adjustable hose clamps
• Wire exiting conduit without protection, either ends or side of conduit
• Hose and tube fittings

Routing should not allow harnesses to:

• Hang below the unit
• Have the potential to become damaged due to exposure to the exterior environment. (i.e. tree limbs, debris,
attachments)
• Be placed in areas of or in contact with machine components which develop temperatures higher than the
temperature rating of harness components
• Wiring should be protected or shielded if it needs to route near hot temperatures beyond harness
component specifications

Introduction & Safety Information

Harnessing should not have sharp bends

Allow sufficient clearance from machine component operational zones such as:
• Drive shafts, universal joints and hitches (i.e. 3-point hitch)
• Pulleys, gears, sprockets
• Deflection and backlash of belts and chains
• Adjustment zones of adjustable brackets
• Changes of position in steering and suspension systems
• Moving linkages, cylinders, articulation joints, attachments
• Ground engaging components

For harness sections that move during machine operation:

• Allow sufficient length for free movement without interference to prevent: pulling, pinching, catching or
rubbing, especially in articulation and pivot points
• Clamp harnesses securely to force controlled movement to occur in the desired harness section
• Avoid sharp twisting or flexing of harnesses in short distances
• Connectors and splices should not be located in harness sections that move

Protect harnesses from:

• Foreign objects such as rocks that may fall or be thrown by the unit
• Buildup of dirt, mud, snow, ice, submersion in water and oil
• Tree limbs, brush and debris
• Damage where service personnel or operators might step or use as a grab bar
• Damage when passing through metal structures
• High pressure wash

CHAPTER Troubleshooting
Chapter4

This chapter covers some of the common problems or issues encountered with the AutoFold Plus system.
Before contacting a local Case IH dealer for support, read and perform the following procedures to eliminate
these issues.
TABLE 1. AutoFold Troubleshooting

Problem Solution
1. Verify that the booms are fully unfolded and in the spray position.
2. The controller must observe a minimum controller count difference
between the folded and unfolded position for each boom section to
establish a working range. Make sure the controller observes the
minimum difference for the following boom sections:
a. Center Rack - 100
AutoFold Plus will not calibrate b. Inner Sections - 500
at the folded or unfolded
position. c. Mid Sections - 400
d. Outer Sections - 400
e. Lift Cylinders - 100
3. Check the sensor data screen. The controller must observe a
minimum of 150 counts and a maximum of 930 counts between the
folded and unfolded positions for each rotary potentiometer sensor.
Adjust sensors as necessary to remain within this specified range.
1. If all sensors indicate failure, check pin A to pin C for on 3-Pin
Weather Pack connector to each sensor for +5 V power. If an
individual sensor indicates failure, check for +5 V power on the
corresponding sensor connector.
2. Manually operate the corresponding section and check to see if the
signal returns to normal working range and the failure is cleared.
Status indicates sensor failure.
a. If the failure is cleared, loosen the corresponding sensor
(potentiometer) bolts and adjust the sensor so that, at the
sensor limits, the sensor does not exceed the normal working
range (150 to 930 controller counts, or 0.5 V to 4.5 V).
3. Check for continuity on signal line (pin B of sensor connector to
corresponding pin on control node).
