ii
BEFORE USING

• Only use fuses with the rating (current, voltage, and blowout character-
istics) specified for the instrument because failure to do so may cause fire.
(WARNING)
Also, be sure to turn the power OFF and unplug the power cord for at least
one minute before replacing fuses.

• Avoid using the instrument in locations with high temperature (exceed-

ing the specified temperature range or 0 to +40°C) because there is a risk
of fire. Avoid using it in locations with extremely high temperature or conden-
sation. Using this instrument in locations with condensation may cause short-
circuit or heat development resulting in fire or electric shock.

• Do not block the heat radiation system because there is a risk of fire if heat
builds up inside the instrument. Place the instrument away from the wall in
locations with the best ventilation possible.

• Never dismantle or disassemble the instrument. Use of this instrument

without its casing or while taken apart may cause damage to equipment or
electric shock. When internal adjustment, inspection or repairs are required,
contact your dealer or Ono Sokki sales office nearby.

• Do not splash or spill water on the instrument because there is a risk of

short-circuit or heat development resulting in fire or electric shock. If you get
water inside the instrument, unplug the power cord immediately and contact
your dealer or Ono Sokki sales office nearby as soon as possible.

iii
ABOUT PROTECTIVE GROUND

• When operating the instrument, be sure to perform protective earth.

Failure to provide protective earth may cause electric shock.
(WARNING)
To ensure safety and eliminate noise, be sure to connect the instrument to a
good ground with either of the following two methods:

* Using a three-pronged power cord (one prong for ground)

Plug the three-pronged cord into a three-pronged

outlet.

* Using a 3-way-to-2-way adapter

Attach the supplied 3-way-to-2-way adapter (CM-

33) to the power cord and then connect the ground
wire of the adapter to the protective earth terminal
of the power supply.

ABOUT THE POWER CORD

• Only use the power cord or AC adapter supplied with the instrument or
one specified by Ono Sokki. Use of a power cord or AC adapter other than
(WARNING)
the one specified may cause electric shock or fire.
The voltage specification is 100 to 240VAC. The Digital Flowmeter is provided
with a power cord which can be used only for a voltage range from 100 to
120VAC. When using the instrument within the voltage range from 100 to
120VAC, be sure to use the supplied power cord. When operating it on volt-
ages other than the voltage range from 100 to 120VAC, be sure to use a
power cord which is applicable to the target voltage. For details, contact your
dealer or Ono Sokki sales office nearby.

iv
PRECAUTIONS ON ELECTRIC SHOCK

• Never cut the internal or external ground wire of the instrument or dis-
connect the wire connected to the protective ground terminal of the
(WARNING)
instrument because there is a risk of electric shock or damage to the instru-
ment.

• Before connecting the instrument to the device under measurement or

external control circuit, make sure that protective earth is securely made
and that the power is OFF. Connecting to external equipment without protec-
tive earth or while the power is still ON may cause electric shock.

• Before touching parts of the instrument where voltage/current is output

or circuits connected to parts where voltage/current is output, make
sure that the power is OFF. Touching such parts without turning the power
OFF may cause electric shock. Be sure to sufficiently insulate circuits from
output voltage/current.

• Be sure that the power always meets specified voltage and frequency
requirements. Use of power other than that specified may cause electric
shock, fire, or damage to the instrument.

because there is a risk of measurement errors, resulting in failure signal out-
(CAUTION)
put to external equipment.

• Do not turn the power OFF during measurement because there is a risk of
damage to external equipment.

vi
NOTES ON MAINTENANCE

• Always keep the instrument clean. In particular, dust, oil splash, or other
dirt at connectors may cause malfunction. Do not use thinner or other
(CAUTION)
volatile solvents to clean the surface of panels.

• Built-in backup battery

The clock and display condition data memory are backed up by the built-in
rechargeable backup battery. When the power of the FM-2500 is turned ON,
the backup battery is charged automatically. The clock and built-in memory
data can be retained for about 1.5 months after full charge.
When the backup battery is fully discharged, it takes about 24 hours to fully
charge it.
If the voltage of the backup battery is not sufficient, clock operation and built-
in memory data contents are not guaranteed.
When the power is turned ON after the backup voltage is lost, display condi-
tions are initialized and memory data cleared automatically.
If the FM-2500 is not in use for a long period of time, charge the backup bat-
tery before use.

With zero calibration, a Coriolis sensor is calibrated so that the output value from the sensor be set to 0 when
fluid is not flowing. Warming up (for about 30 minutes) and zero calibration of a Coriolis sensor make it pos-
sible to prevent fluctuation caused by aging of the Coriolis sensor, allowing more accurate measurement. If
the type of fluid supplied to the sensor is changed or if any measurement environmental condition is changed,
perform calibration.

< REFERENCE > Description of Fluid Level Stabilization Time and Charging
Level Settings
Unlike measurement with other units, measurement with the FX-0400 unit is performed by charging a mass
burette type flow sensor with the fluid under measurement. It is also possible to obtain the density and con-
stant capacity consumption time using the FX-202P/FX-203P/FX-205P with a constant capacity sensor.

„ Instantaneous Value Measurement Process

(1) If the fluid level underruns the level of the following expression (charging level), the charging
valve is opened to start charging of the fluid under measurement.
Charging level = (L2 - L3) × Charging level setting (%) + L3
When the fluid level reaches level L2 during charging, charging is completed.

(2) When charging is completed, the charging valve is closed, processing is suspended until the
fluid level stabilization time elapses, then instantaneous flow measurement starts.
With the FX-0400, when integrating measurement is not performed, steps (1) to (2) are
repeated.

104
8. FX-0400 Condition Setup

„ Total Value Measurement

(1) When the [START] panel switch, etc. is pressed, the fluid under measurement is charged until
the fluid level reaches level L2. (If level L2 has already been reached, the fluid is not charged.)
(2) When charging is completed, the charging valve is closed, processing is suspended until the
fluid level stabilization time elapses, then integrating measurement starts.
Unlike measurement with other units, measurement with the FX-0400 unit is performed by
charging a mass burette type flow sensor with the fluid under measurement. It is also possible
to obtain the density and constant capacity consumption time using the FX-202P/FX-205P
with a constant capacity sensor.

CAUTION End of Integrating Measurement

If the fluid level underruns level L3 before integrating measurement is completed, an integration error results and
then integrating measurement ends automatically.
The total value displayed in the LCD screen at this time is the total value for measurement before error occurrence.
An error message appears.
If an integration error occurs, press the [START] panel switch, etc. again to cancel the error and start new integrating

10.2.1 Description of Measurement with FX-0400

Unlike measurement with other units, measurement with the FX-0400 unit is performed by charging a mass
burette type flow sensor with the fluid under measurement. It is also possible to obtain the density and con-
stant capacity consumption time using the FX-202P/FX-203P/FX-205P with a constant capacity sensor.

„ Instantaneous Value Measurement

(1) If the fluid level underruns the level of the following expression (charging level), the charging
valve is opened to start charging of the fluid under measurement.
Charging level = (L2 - L3) × Charging level setting (%) + L3
When the fluid level reaches L2 during charging, charging is completed.

(2) When charging is completed, the charging valve is closed, processing is suspended until the
fluid level stabilization time elapses, then instantaneous flow measurement starts.
When integrating measurement is not performed, steps (1) to (2) are repeated.
