What is the Mandela Effect?

To put it simple the Mandela Effect describes the sharing of false memories by a large group of
people. It is an unexplained phenomenon, which was discovered by Fiona Broome many years ago.
Many people experienced it without even knowing, including myself. More to that later.

The origin of the Mandela Effect

As the name already says, it was named after Nelson Mandela. Fiona had a discussion at a convention
with some other people where everyone, including her, had the same memory of Nelson Mandela
dying in a South African prison back in the 80s. However, this was actually wrong. At the time where
she discovered the phenomenon, Nelson Mandela was still alive, but he died in 2013 at the age of 95
at his home. Fiona realized, that it was not only a few people remembering the same false memory and
started to report about her discovery on her own website.
A large group of people had the same memory as her and the other persons she talked to.
Because of her discovery of the Mandela Effect, many people thought they lose their mind, because
thousands of people realized, that they had the same false memories.
This is also the most interesting part of the Mandela Effect, because many individuals, which never
talked or met each other, share the same false memories, without even knowing.

Examples
Monopoly Man
If you ask someone, if the monopoly man has a monocle or not, many would answer yes.
Nevertheless, this is actually wrong. He never had one since the release of the game and every picture
of him having a monocle is fake.
Luke, I am your father
Almost everyone should know the quote “Luke, I am your father” from Star Wars and this is how
almost everyone remembers it. However, this quote never existed. The original quote says, “No, I am
your father”. It even went that far, that the original voice actor remembers the same wrong quote and
that many Star Wars Merchandise Products have the same false quote on it.
Froot Loops
I think many of your remember Fruit Loops from their childhood or even today. But how was the
name originally spelled? Right, with a double o, not u and i.
Pikachu
I think everyone here should know the famous Pokémon Pikachu. However, if you think about it,
which color does his tail tip have? Many people, including myself, thought, it was black, but that is
wrong. It never had been black and was yellow since the very beginning. When I was a child, I drew
Pikachu every time with a black tail tip and still have old drawings of it somewhere. But as I already
said, it never had been black.
JFK assassination
If you think about the JFK assassination, how many people sat in the car? Many witnesses and
newspapers reported about 4, but it had been 6. 2 at the front, 2 in the middle and 2 in the back.
We are the champions
Many people know the song “We are the Champions” by Queen, but how does the song ends? A large
amount of people, including the original singer, thought it included “… of the world”. But that’s
wrong. The original song never had this quote. He even used the wrong quote on a concert but no one
realized that it was actually wrong.

What´s the reason?

There is no real answer for this question, only theories. Fiona and many other people think that this
phenomenon is connected to a parallel universe. A parallel universe is an altered reality of which we
know in a different universe, which is somehow connected to ours.
There is no solid proof of the existing of it, but many scientist and people believe in that.
There is also the theory of Time travel. The theory says that someone changed the past and altered the
timeline of our universe, so we start to remember things which actually happened but which had been
changed. Same as the theory of a parallel universe there is no solid proof of time travel to exist, but
many scientists and people believe in that.
In addition, both of these theories are connected to the Butterfly Effect, which would be the cause for
the altered memories. The Butterfly Effect describes an Event, no matter how small or large it is which
have drastic consequences for the future. In that case, it would be altered memories for a large group
of people.

My opinion
I believe in the existence of Time Travel or of a Parallel universe, which could be the cause of the
Mandela Effect. I know, that there is no 100% solid proof for the existing of both, but it would explain
many different things, which we can´t answer until today. This is why I stuck on my opinion and keep
on the research, until I have my answer.
