HOSE CONSTRUCTION

Hoses / Couplings / Related Industrial Products

HOSE CONSTRUCTION

Composite hoses are made from multiple tight-wound polypropylene films and fabrics,
reinforced with inner and outer spiral wire helix’s. Films and fabrics are protected and
covered by an outer layer of abrasion resistant PVC coated fabric. The PVC covers are
distinctively colored for identification. The inner wire provides structural support and
crush resistance. The outer wire provides the structural integrity of the hose. The inner
wire helix is either galvanized mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum or Polypropylene
coated steel depending on application. The outer wire helix is either galvanized mild
steel, stainless steel or aluminum.

Fittings
The Fittings are attached by external swaging methods.

Test Methods
Each Composite Hose is individually hydrostatically pressure tested prior to shipment
at one and a half times its working pressure and uniquely serialized with its own test
test number and certificate.

Electrical Continuity
Both inner and outer wires are connected to each end and tested for electrical continuity.

HOSE SUPPORTS

Hoses / Couplings / Related Industrial Products

HOSE HANDLING SLINGS

Composite Hoses must be supported properly. Hose handling slings are
designed for cargo hoses and should be used in choker hitch only.
The handling sling supports the hose properly and eliminates kinking
and cutting. Hose handling slings are fabricated from 100% nylon.
We advice, at least to use one sling for every 5 meter hose.

HOSE HANDLING SLINGS  NEVER USE ROPE SLINGS AS SEVERE DAMAGE WILL RESULT

to hold cargo hoses at the appropriate bend radius. Hose buns are
fabricated of 100% urethane.

HOSE INSTRUCTIONS

Hoses / Couplings / Related Industrial Products

HANDLING INSTRUCTIONS

 Check hoses visually before each operation and before conducting hydrostatic testing
 Reduce all pressure when hoses are not used, or when leaving the work area.
 Do not use hoses near open flame or expose to extreme heat
 Do not expose hoses to extreme pressure, temperate, weather, weight or mechanical stress
 Beware of internal and external temperature changes
 Keep hoses free from snow, ice or obstacles
 Hoses are not suitable for extreme high viscosity- or dry bulk materials
 Avoid abrasion due to pulsation and vibration during process
 Do not drop the hoses or coupling on the ground
 Keep strictly to the specified radius of the hoses
 Clean hoses properly after use or prolonged storage, or before testing
 Do not disconnect hoses when under pressure
 Hoses are not suitable for underground use
 Hose testing only with water
 Hose testing , every 6 months or more frequently, per recommended procedure
 Handle hoses with care and use the proper supports

CAUTION:

 DO NOT TEST HOSES THAT FAILED VISUAL INSPECTION

 HOSES WITH SIGNIFICANT DEFECTS SHOULD BE RETIRED FROM SERVICE

CLEANING

 Thoroughly drain acid conveyants, or other reactive conveyants before cleaning to avoid
exothermic reactions
 Electrically ground hose during cleaning to avoid static build-up especially in the presence of
flammable liquids or vapors
 Flush with fluids like fresh or sea water, hot water, detergents, common solvents at ambient
temperatures
 Drain thoroughly after flushing, especially if sea water is used, to minimize inner wire and
fittings corrosion; or any chemical cleaning fluids/solvents to avoid any chemical reactions
when hose is put back into service
 Steam or compressed air maybe used to clean hoses
 Hose must be open ended (no restrictions)
 Lay hose flat and straight

HANDLING GUIDE

Hoses / Couplings / Related Industrial Products

NEVER use hose unsupported ALWAYS support the hose at appropriate

points with hosebuns or slings
NEVER support hose with a single ALWAYS support hose near manifold
rope or rope slings connections
NEVER allow hose to drop between ALWAYS protect hose against sharp edges
ship and dock (e.g. dock edge, ships guard rail, etc.)
NEVER over bend hose ALWAYS store hose in straight line raised off the
ground, preferable in a cool dark area
