Antrochoanal polyp showing Antral part, Nasal
part, Choanal part.
• It is a wet mounted well preserved specimen of
antrochoanal polyp
• Polyp originating in maxillary sinus ,
protruding in the middle meatus through the
ethemoidal infundibulum or an accessory
ostium and further extending Posteriorly
through the choana into the
Nasopharynx/oropharynx.
• Antrochoanal polyp has three parts which
include
• (A) antral part

• Etiology-
• Commonly seen in children both male and
female
• Probably caused by infection of the maxillary
sinus
• Often unilateral but can be bilateral
occasionally
• Clinical feature
• Symptom-
• (1) unilateral nasal obstruction
• (2) nasal discharge
• (3) headache
• Sign—polyp may be missed on ant Rhinoscopy
as the bulk of the mass lies in posterior part of
the nasal cavity and in Nasopharynx
• Early antrochoanal polyp may present as
solitary unilateral nasal mass in the middle
meatus.
• Posterior Rhinoscopy will reveal a large polyp
• Treatment—Endoscopic Polpectomy with a
middle meatal antrostomy by joining the
accessory And natural ostia together is the
present treatment of choice
