2 - INTRODUCTION

SMART - NUMERICAL is an ability assessment designed to measure an individual's

numerical reasoning skills.
As an adaptive test, SMART - NUMERICAL continuously calculates the test-taker's ability
level from the responses they have made to the questions presented. As test-takers
continuously get questions correct, increasingly difficult questions will be presented.
Alternatively, as questions are answered incorrectly, easier questions are presented. The
assessment then generates a final score based on the questions that were administered
(and their difficulties).

3 - INTERPRETING THE REPORT

Some precautions to be taken when interpreting the results in this report:

- Use of this report requires a complete understanding of the objectives of the test and of
the precise meanings of the concept of ability, in order to interpret the results accurately.
- Scores on SMART - NUMERICAL are represented as percentile ranks on a scale of 0 - 10.
Further details can be found in the "Results" Section.

4 - THE CONSTRUCT

Behaviour, and ultimately workplace performance, is the result of many different factors.
These could be an individual’s personality, their experiences and competencies, their
learned skills, or their inherent cognitive abilities. All of these factors should be taken into
account when making decisions regarding individuals and their suitability for a role.
Personality assessments, for example, will provide information about how an individual is
likely to behave in a given environment.
One of the best predictors of performance in the workplace is cognitive ability. This
includes a wide range of specific reasoning abilities, such as reasoning with spatial
information, abstract / figural information, verbal information, and numerical
information.

SMART - NUMERICAL is a test of cognitive ability, measuring an individual's ability to

manipulate and reason using numerical information. Rather than assessing whether the
individual can perform numerical calculations in their head, it instead focuses on their
ability to follow the appropriate steps when transforming numbers in order to reach
accurate conclusions.

5 - SMART IN THE WORKPLACE

Having an optimum level of reasoning ability is considered a valuable and necessary

asset for any individual who wants to thrive and succeed in a work environment.
Therefore, SMART – NUMERICAL, through its measurement of numerical reasoning skills,
provides a comprehensive understanding of an individual's ability to:
1) understand and follow through with instructions;
2) analyse information;
3) identify simple as well as complex situations;
4) differentiate between that which is relevant from irrelevant;
5) use logic rather than gut feelings to make judgements;
6) make objective evaluations;
7) solve problems;
8) make decisions;
9) efficiently handle day-to-day tasks

6 - RESULTS

In addition to demonstrating the obtained score, the graph below displays a visual
representation of the individual's percentile rank. The percentile rank provides an
analysis of the individual's performance in relation to the comparison group, thereby
allowing meaningful comparisons to be made. For example, a score of 7 equates to a
percentile rank of 70%. A percentile rank of 70% indicates that the individual has scored
higher than 70% of the comparison group; it does not mean that the individual has
scored 70% in the assessment.

MEBRE ASCHENAKI's score suggests that he has a good level of numerical reasoning
ability. This means that he is likely to be able to perform everyday numerical reasoning
tasks with ease, and can work through less familiar tasks. At times, MEBRE ASCHENAKI
may find this challenging, and he may struggle when interpreting and manipulating
complex numerical information. However, on the whole, he is capable of working with
numerical datasets, performing calculations or mathematical transformations,
identifying errors in mathematical thinking, understanding the implications of
numerical outcomes, and / or other analytical tasks.
To improve his numerical reasoning ability, MEBRE ASCHENAKI can refer to the
developmental section of this report.
It should also be noted that MEBRE ASCHENAKI's personality traits can enhance his
productivity when performing numerical tasks, along with strategies that he may have
developed in order to work more effectively in these areas.

7 - DEVELOPMENTAL COMMENTS

There is always scope for an invididual to explore as well as further develop their
reasoning abilities. The following points offer ways of doing so; through regular practice,
an individual's performance on numerical reasoning tasks can be enhanced.
Analysing information
By focusing on key points when analysing information, it can become easier to identify
the relationship between the important parts, and thus more easily draw conclusions
from these.
Asking questions
When an individual asks questions and follows it up with queries or clarifications, it will
help them to better understand as well as clearly grasp a concept.
Integrating viewpoints
Rounding up a variety of different methods in order to look at various approaches to a
numerical problem, can enable an individual to better comprehend or view mathematical
technicalities fom multiple perspectives.

In order for MEBRE ASCHENAKI to further develop his numerical reasoning skills, he
could take the aid of the following suggestions when presented with a mathematical
problem:
a) Break down the problem into sub-problems; this will make it easier for him to find
the solution or answer to the main problem.
b) Apply mathematical tricks and techniques that he has learned; this will enable him
to solve the problem in a manageable and simple way.
c) Avoid rushing to find the answer; going through the problem in a step-by-step
manner will increase MEBRE ASCHENAKI's chance of finding the right solution.
