STANDARDS MATTERS
In terms of the Standards Act, 2008 (Act No. 8 of 2008), the Board of the South African Bureau of Standards has acted in
regard to standards in the manner set out in the Schedules to this notice.
A list of all existing South African national standards was published by Government Notice No. 1373 of 8 November 2002.
In the list of SANS standards below, the equivalent SABS numbers, where applicable, are given below the new SANS
numbers for the sake of convenience. Standards that were published with the "SABS" prefix are listed as such.

SANS 956-5:2015 Financial services- Universal financial industry message scheme - Part 5: Reverse engineering. Explains through
(Ed. 1) reverse engineering guidelines how to extract the relevant infonnation from existing IndustryMessageSets in order to
prepare the submission to the ISO 20022 Registration Authority of equivalent, ISO 20022 compliant Business
Transactions and MessageSets.

SANS 961:2015 Vehicle classifications. Defines and classifies all types of power-driven vehicles and trailers.

SANS 1025:2015 Animal drawn carts. Covers the requirements for the construction and performance of animal drawn vehicles.

SANS 1377:2015 Olive oils and olive-pomace oils. Applies to all olive oils and olive-pomace oils that are traded in South Africa. Defines
(Ed. 1) the grades of olive oils and olive-pomace oils and specifies the chemical composition and quality parameters for these
grades. Establishes requirements for labelling and packing. Lists acceptable methods of analyses.

SANS 1546:2015 Dried mopane worms. Covers the harvesting, processsing and drying of mopane worms.

SANS 1631:2015 Plastic based push fit fittings for copper tubes. Covers plastics based push-fit fittings for use with copper tubes that
(Ed. 1) comply with the requirements of SANS 460 for sizes 8 mm to 54 mm tubes.

SANS 1683:2015 Moringa. Covers the production and product requirements of Moringa oleifera.
(Ed. 1)

SANS 1719:2015 Set-top box decoders for free-to-air Direct-to-Home (DTH) digital satellite Television. Specifies minimum technical
(Ed. 1) requirements for direct-to-home (DTH) set-top box (STB) decoders for those communities that are not covered by
digital terrestrial television (DTT) transmissions.

SANS 1980:2015 Standard practice for calculating solar reflectance index of horizontal and low-sloped opaque surfaces. Covers the
(Ed. 1) calculation of the Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) of horizontal and low-sloped opaque surfaces at standard conditions. Is
intended to calculate SRI for surfaces with emissivity greater than 0.1.

SANS 1982:2015/ Standard test method for determination of solar reflectance near ambient temperature. Covers a technique for
ASTM C1549:2009 determining the solar reflectance of flat opaque materials in a laboratory or in the field using a commercial portable
solar reflectometer.

SANS 2597-2:2015/ Iron ores - Determination of total iron content Part 2: Titrimetric methods after titanium(III) chloride reduction.
ISO 2597-2:2008 Specifies two titrimetric methods, free from mercury pollution, for the determination of total iron content in iron ores,
using potassium dichromate as titrant after reduction of the iron(III) by tin(II) chloride and titanium(III) chloride.

SANS 3691-5:2015/ Industrial trucks - Safety requirements and verification Part 5: Pedestrian-propelled trucks. Provides safety
ISO 3691-5:2009 requirements and the means for their verification for different types of pedestrian-propelled trucks, equiped with load-
handling devices for normal industrial duties, e.g fork arms and platforms, or integrated attachments for special
applications.

SANS 8371:2015/ Iron Ores - for blast furnace feedstocks - Determination of the decrepitation index. Specifies a method to provide a
ISO/8371:2007 relative measure for evaluating the degree of size degradation caused by rapid heating of iron ores. Specifies the
determination of the decrepitation index. Applicable to lump ores for blast furnace feedstocks.

SANS 9683-1:2015/ Iron ores - Determination of vanadium - Part 1: BPHA spectrophotometric method. Specifies a spectrophotometric
ISO 9683-1:2006 method using N-benzoyl-phenylhydroxylamine (BPHA) for the determination of the mass fraction of vanadium in iron
ores.

SANS 180134:2015/ Information technology - Personal identification - ISO-compliant driving licence - Part 4: Test methods. Specifies the
ISO/IEC 18013-4:2011 test methods used for conformity testing, that is, methods for determining whether a driving licence can be considered
to comply with the requirements of the ISO/IEC 18013 series of standards (published in South Africa as identical
adoptions under the designations SANS 18013).

SANS 18605:2015/ Packaging and the environment - Energy recovery. Specifies the requirements for packaging to be classified as
ISO 18605:2013 recoverable in the form of energy recovery and sets out assessment procedures for meeting the requirements of ISO
18601 (published in South Africa as an identical adoption under the designation SANS 18601).

SANS 22915-4:2015i Industrial trucks - Verification of stability Part 4: Pallet stackers, double stackers and order-picking trucks with
ISO 229154:2009 operator position elevating up to and including 1 200 mm lift height. Specifies tests for verifying the stability of pallet
stackers, double stackers, and order-picking trucks with an operator position elevating up to and including 1 200 mm
lift height, measured from the ground to the floor of the platform.

SANS 22915-7:2015/ Industrial trucks - Verification of stability Part 7: Bidirectional and multidirectional trucks. Specifies the tests for
ISO 22915-7:2009 verifying the stability of bidirectional and multidirectional trucks with tilting or non-tilting mast or fork arms.

SANS 22915-8:2015/ Industrial trucks - Verification of stability Part 8: Additional stability test for trucks operating in the special condition
ISO 22915-8:2008 of stacking with mast tilted forward and load elevated. Deals with the safety of industrial trucks, relative to their
stability and the verification of that stability.

SANS 22915-20:2015/ Industrial trucks - Verification of stability Part 20: Additional stability test for trucks operating in the special condition
ISO 22915-20:2008 of offset load, offset by utilization. Deals with the safety of industrial trucks, relative to their stability and the
verification of that stability.

SANS 23185:2015/ Assessment and benchmarking of terminological resources - General concepts, principles and requirements. Describes
ISO 23185:2009 fundamental concepts related to the effective use of terminological data. Provides general principles for a model
applicable to a variety of terminological resources and clarifies the usability attributes that constitute the model.

SANS 24610-2:2015/ Asset management-Overview, principles and terminology. Provides an overview of asset management, its principles
ISO 24610:2011 and terminology, and the expected benefits from adopting asset management systems.

SANS 24610-2:2015/ Language resource management -Feature structures - Part 2 Feature system declaration. Provides a format to
ISO 24610-2:2011 represent, store or exchange feature structures in natural language applications for both annotation and production of
linguistic data. Designed to provide a computer format to define a type hierarchy and to declare the constraints that
bear on a set of feature specifications and operations on feature structures, thus offering means to check the
conformance of each feature structure with regards to a reference specification.
SANS 26162:2015/ Systems to manage terminology knowledge and content - Design implementation and maintenance of terminology
ISO 26162:2012 management systems. Specifies criteria for designingimplementing and maintaining terminology management systems
(TMSs). Provides information about the rationale for using a TMS, types of users and users' needs, steps in designing
and implementing a TMS as well as the tasks of organizing and managing a terminological data collection (TDC).
Provides guidelines for selecting and using data categories for managing terminology in various environments

SANS 50004:2015/ Energy management systems - Guidance for the implementation, maintenance and improvement of an energy
ISO 50004:2011 management system. Provides practical guidance and examples for establishing , implementing, maintaining and
improving an energy management system (EnMS) in accordance with the systematic approach of ISO 5001.

SANS 50006:2015/ Energy management systems - Measuring energy performance using energy baselines (EnB) and energy performance
ISO 50006:2011 indicators (EnPI) - General principles and guidance. Provides guidance to organizations on how to establish, use and
maintain energy performance indicators (EnPls) and energy baselines (EnBs) as part of the process of measuring
energy performance. Applicable to any organization, regardless of its size, type, location or level of maturity in the field
of enegy management.

SANS 53411-1:2015/ Terminations for steel wire ropes - Safety Part 1: Thimbles for steel wire rope slings. Specifies the minimum
EN 13411-1:2002 requirements for non welded general purpose steel thimbles produced from plate having dimensions in accordance with
Figure 1. Reeving thimbles and solid thimbles are not covered by this standard.

SANS 53411-2:2015/ Terminations for steel wire ropes - Safety Part 2: Splicing of eyes for wire rope slings. Specifies minimum
EN 13411-2:2001 requirements for the splicing of eye terminations for six or eight strand steel wire ropes of up to 60 mm diameter
complying with prEN 12385-4 used for slings to ensure that the spliced eye is strong enough to withstand a force of at
least 80 % of the minimum breaking load of the rope.

SANS 53411-3:2015/ Terminations for steel wire ropes - Safety Part 3: Ferrules and ferrule-securing. Deals with the requirements for the
FN 13411-3:2001 ferrule-securing of eyes and endless loops. Also deals with the requirements for ferrules for the ferrule-securing of eyes
and endless loops, and applies to the ferrule-securing of eye terminations formed either by a Flemish eye or turn back
eye and covers ferrules made of non-alloy carbon steel and aluminium. Applies to slings and assemblies using steel
wire ropes for general lifting applications up to and including 60 mm diameter conforming to EN 12385-4, lift ropes
conforming to EN 12385-5 and spiral strand ropes conforming to EN 12385-10.

SANS 53411-4:2015/ Terminations for steel wire ropes - Safety Part 4: Metal and resin socketing. Specifies the minimum requirements for
EN 13411-4:2001 the molten metal and resin socketing of steel wire ropes within the scopes of EN 12385-4:2002+A1:2008; EN 12385-
5:2002; EN 12385-6:2004; EN 12385-7:2002; EN 12385-8:2002; EN 12385-9:2002 and EN 12385-0:2003+A1:2008.
Applicable only to those requirements that ensure that the socketing is strong enough to withstand a force of at least
100 % of the minimum breaking force of the rope (i.e. socket termination efficiency factor KT = 1,0)

SANS 53411-5:2015/ Terminations for steel wire ropes - Safety Part 5: U-bolt wire rope grips. Specifies the minimum requirements for U-
EN 13411-5:2003 bolt wire rope grips manufactured from ferrous materials and the safe behaviour of eye terminations secured by U-bolt
wire rope grips for use as intended by the manufacturer. Suitable uses include suspending static loads and single use
lifting operations which have been assessed by a competent person taking into account appropriate safety factors. U-
bolt wire rope grips are not suitable for use with spiral ropes. Does not cover U-bolt wire rope grips as the primary
securing devices on mine hoists, crane hoists or eye terminations for slings for general lifting service.

SANS 53411-6:2015/ Terminations for steel wire ropes - Safety Part 6: Asymmetric wedge socket. Specifies the minimum requirements, for
EN 13411-6:2004 asymmetrical wedge socket terminations for stranded steel wire ropes. Examples of the construction and sizes of two
separate designs of asymmetric wedge sockets are given in informative annexes A and B. Deals with all significant
hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to asymmetric wedge sockets for terminations for steel wire ropes,
when used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer. Applies
to terminations of steel wire ropes with asymmetrical wedge sockets which are manufactured after the date of its
publication. Does not cover rope fatigue.

SANS 53411-7:2015/ Terminations for steel wire ropes - Safety Part 7: Symmetric wedge socket. Specifies the minimum requirements for
EN 13411-7:2006 symmetrical wedge socket terminations for stranded steel wire ropes conforming to EN 12385-5 for lifts. Covers those
symmetric wedge sockets intended for use at temperatures between -20 °C and 100 °C. Only covers those symmetric
wedge sockets that have welded socket bodies. Deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events
relevant to symmetric wedge sockets for terminations for steel wire ropes, when used as intended and under conditions
of misuse which are reasonable foreseeable by the manufacturer. Applies to symmetric wedge sockets, which are
manufactured after the date of its publication.
SANS 53411-8:2015/ Terminations for steel wire ropes - Safety Pail 8: Swage terminals and swaging. Specifies the minimum requirements
EN 13411-8:2011 for swage terminals and the securing of such terminals by a swaging process to carbon steel rope conforming to EN
12385-4 and EN 12385-5, spiral strand rope conforming to EN 12385-10 and stainless steel stranded rope. Is not
applicable to spiral rope incorporating full lock wires - see EN 12385-10 -, nor ropes with coverings and/or fillings (see
3.6.3 of EN 12385-2:2002+A1:2008). Applicable to swaged terminations that have a terminal efficiency factor, KT, of
at least 0,9 and are used as part of a wire rope accessory such as a sling, or wire rope assembly that performs a raising,
lowering, hauling or supporting function on lifting machinery.
SANS 60079-29-3:2015/ Explosive atmospheres - Part 29-3: Gas detectors - Guidance on functional safety offixed gas detection systems. Gives
IEC 60079-29-3:2014 guidance for the design and implementation of a fixed gas detection system, including associated and/or peripheral gas
detection equipment, for the detection of flammable gases/vapours and oxygen when used in a safety-related
application in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 61511. Applies to the detection of toxic gases.
SANS 60229:2015/ Electric cables - Tests on extruded oversheaths with a special protective function. Provides a range of tests which may
IEC 60229:2007 be required for electric cables which have an extruded oversheath and where that oversheath performs a special
protective function. Covers cables for use in insulated systems and in uninsulated systems.
SANS 60350-1:2015/ Household electric cooking appliances - Part I: Ranges, ovens, steam ovens and grills - Methods for measuring
IEC 60350-1:2011 performance. Specifies methods for measuring the performance of electric cooking ranges, ovens, steam ovens, and
grills for household use. The ovens covered by this standard may be with or without microwave function.
SANS 61534-21:2015/ Powertrack systems - Part 21: Particular requirements for powertrack systems intended for wall and ceiling mounting.
IEC 61534-21:1111 Specifies the particular requirements and tests for PT systems intended for mounting on walls or ceilings (or both).
SATR 61850-7-510:2015/ Communication networks and systems for power utility automation - Part 7-510: Basic communication structure -
IEC 61850-7-50:2012 Hydroelectric power plants - Modelling concepts and guidelines. Provides explanations on how to use the Logical
Nodes defined in the IEC 61850 series (in South Africa available as the SANS 61580 series) to model complex control
functions in power plants, including variable speed pumped storage power plants.

SATR 61850-90-5:2015/ Communication networks and systems for power utility automation - Part 90-5: Use of IEC 61850 to transmit
IEC 61850-90-5:2012 synchrophasor information according to IEEE C37.118. Provides a way of exchanging synchrophasor data between
PMUs, PDCs, WAMPAC (Wide Area Monitoring, Protection, and Control), and between control centre applications.
The data, to the extent covered in IEEE C37.118-2005, are transported in a way that is compliant to the concepts of IEC
61850.

SANS 61851-23:2015/ Electric vehicle conductive charging system - Part 23: DC electric vehicle charging station. Gives the requirements for
IEC 61851-23:2014 d.c. electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, herein also referred to as "DC charger", for conductive connection to the
vehicle, with an a.c. or d.c. input voltage up to 1 000 V a.c. and up to 1 500 V d.c. in accordance with IEC 60038.

SANS 61851-24:2015/ Electric vehicle conductive charging system - Part 24: Digital communication between a d.c. EV charging station and
IEC 61851-24:2014 an electric vehicle for control of d.c. charging. Applies to digital communication between a d.c. EV charging station
and an electric road vehicle (EV) for control of d.c. charging, with an a.c. or d.c. input voltage up to 1 000 V ac. andup
to 1 500 V d.c. for the conductive charging procedure.

SANS 61869-4:2015/ Instrument transformers - Part 4: Additional requirements for combined transformers. Applies to newly-manufactured
IEC 61869-4:2013 combined transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments and electrical protective devices at frequencies
from 15 Hz to 100 Hz.

SANS 62052-21:2015/ Electricity metering equipment (a.c.) - General requirements, tests and test conditions - Part 21: Tariff and load
IEC 62052-21:2004 control equipment. Specifies general requirements for the type test of newly manufactured indoor tariff and load
control equipment, like electronic ripple control receivers and time switches that are used to control electrical loads,
multi-tariff registers and maximum demand indicator devices.
