You need to use MS word document to prepare and submit the assignment on VU-LMS.
It should be clear that your assignment will not get any credit if:
 The assignment is submitted after due date.

 The submitted assignment does not open or file is corrupt.
 Assignment is copied (partial or full) from any source (websites, forums, students, etc.).

Objective:
 To enhance the hands-on training of students on Packet Tracer tool for:
 Packet Tracer Tool usage
 Designing Network Topology
 Setting IPv4 addresses on devices.
 Configuring Initial Settings on Switch
 Verify and Test Switch Connectivity

This lab will test your ability to configure basic settings such as hostname, motd banner, encrypted passwords,
and terminal options on a Cisco Catalyst 2960 switch.

Assignment
Scenario:

A new Cisco Catalyst 2960 switch just purchased from Cisco contains no default configuration. You need to
configure the switch with setup mode or from scratch using the command line interface (CLI) before connecting it
in your network environment.
Objectives:
Considering the above-given scenario, you are required to perform the following tasks using the Packet
Tracer Tool.
Take Screenshots of each task and paste into the MS Word File after completing the tasks (as shown below
after some steps):
Submit / Upload MS word file containing screenshots of completed tasks before last date.
1. Use PC (from packet tracer) and configure the PC with the right parameters for console access to the Cisco
2960 Catalyst switch

2. Configure Switch hostname as your VU ID (i.e) BC11223344


3. Configure the message of the day as “MY VU ID IS (your VU ID (i.e) BC11223344)”

4. Configure the password for privileged mode access as your VU ID i.e BC11223344.
The password must be md5 encrypted.
5. Configure password encryption on the switch using the global configuration command
6. Configure CONSOLE access with password: your vu id i.e BC11223344
7. Configure TELNET access password: your vu id i.e BC11223344
8. Configure the IP address of the switch as 192.168.1.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 and its default gateway IP
(192.168.1.1).
9. Configure the IP address of the remote laptop as 192.168.1.3 subnet mask 255.255.255.0
10. Test telnet connectivity from the Remote Laptop to Switch1 (2960) using telnet as shown below.
11. Copy Running configuration to Startup configuration
12. Screenshot of Running Configuration (commands) as highlighted below
