C-4-1. They watch television every evening.

watched is the past simple:

C-4-2. The past simple is often -ed (regular verbs). For example:
work  worked clean  cleaned start  started
stay  stayed arrive  arrived dance  danced
 I clean my teeth every morning. This morning I cleaned my teeth.
 Terry worked in a bank from 1986 to 1993.
 Yesterday it rained all morning. It stopped at lunchtime.
 We enjoyed the party last night. We danced a lot and talked to a lot of people.
The part finished at midnight.
Spelling:

C-4-3. Some verbs are irregular (= not regular). The past simple is not -ed. Here are some
important irregular verbs:

C-5-1. We use did in past simple negatives and questions:

C-5-3. We use did/ didn’t + infinitive (watch/ play/ go etc.):
I watched but I didn’t watch (not ‘I didn’t watched’)

 ‘Did you do the shopping?’ ‘No, I didn’t have time.’

a ... = one thing or person:
 Alice works in a bank. (not ‘in bank’)

Compare a and the:

D-2-2. We say the ... when it is clear which thing or person we mean. For example:
the door the ceiling the floor the carpet the light etc. (of a room)
the roof the garden the kitchen the bathroom etc. (of a house)
the centre the station the airport the town hall etc. (of a town)
 ‘Where’s Tom?’ ‘In the kitchen.’ (= the kitchen in this house or flat)
 Turn off the light and close the door. (= the light and the door of the room)
 Do you live far from the centre? (= the centre of your town)
 I’d like to speak to the manager, please. (= the manager of the shop etc.)
