Definition: simple future is a form of tense to indicate an event that has not
yet started and will only occur in the future
Differences in the use of will, shall and going to in the simple future tense
Time signals:
Tomorrow : Besok
The day after tomorrow : Besok lusa
Next week : Minggu depan
A month later : Bulan depan
Next year : Tahun depan
Soon : Segera
Later : Nanti
By and by : Sebentar lagi
Function
1) Use of will
- States an event that will occur in the future
(Beni will go to Jakarta next week)
- Expressing a decision to do something without plan
- Expressing an emotion or feeling
(My mom will love her new bag)
- Prediction future event
(It will rain tomorrow)
- Invite other people
(will you marry me)
- Express promise
(I won’t tell anyone your secret)
2) Use of shall
- Shows a desire
(I shall study later)
- Ask for advice or instruction
(what shall I buy for dinner)
- Expressing an offer to another person (untuk funsi ini shall
akan berubah arti menjadi “perlu” atau “harus”
(Shall I give you some money)
3) Use of be going to
- Conveying a wish but only just an intention
( She is going to be a teacher)
- Express prediction based on evidence
( Look at those grey clouds. It’s definitely going to rain)

1) Use of will

2) Use of shall

10. Assessment guidelines
The writer gets the data from rubric scoring of the students' writing, then the
writer calculates the score of students'. The maximum score from that scoring
is 20. The writer uses the formula, as follow:
