INTRODUCTION:

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed judges, faculty and staffs of CRT who are here
to listen, fellow debaters, and listeners, a pleasant morning/afternoon to all. I am
Almarie Queen S. Javier Grade 11 student from CRT - Gapan Campus. My teammates and
I are proud to support the topic that mobile phone should be allowed inside the school.
We will deliver our 3 main claims. First, the benefits of mobile phones for quizzes,
examinations and activities on students and teachers. Second, mobile phones are used
for emergency purposes. Lastly, mobile phones help students like us senior high-school
and college students allows us to use educational tools for research, in order to access
the information at our fingertips.
We are living in the era of gadgets and smartphones, and communication has
never been so easy. Mobile phones have become part of our daily lives and besides
communication, we have a vast variety of applications that can make our daily life a lot
easier. The classrooms of today are so, so different from the classrooms we grew up in.
In many places, old whiteboards and write-on overhead projectors have been replaced
by interactive touch screens. Desktops and laptops have replaced pen, paper and
textbooks in upper grades. Amid all these tangible technology advancements, there’s an
even bigger change — cell phones in the classroom. These days, more and more
students are bringing cell phones to class. Even elementary school-aged students have
cell phones in their pockets and backpacks.
As cell phones have become increasingly ingrained into everyday life, teachers
have entered into a battle of policing usage during class. The ultimate question being —
should students be allowed to use mobile phones inside the classroom?
Definitely yes!
Now, I will start my speech by giving you our teams first argument that mobile
phones are used as an interactive learning tool.

FIRST CLAIM;

Mobile phones are increasingly being integrated into educational settings to

facilitate quizzes, examinations, and various interactivity activities that engage students
and promote active learning. A study conducted by Tashfeen Ahmad he states that
students were keen on its usage as a social connectivity and collaborative tool, which
they can use for flexible and personalized learning activities. An example of an enjoyable
activity is the Kahoot!
In addition, according to the study of Alf Inge Wang &Rabail Tahir, Kahoot! is a
game-based learning platform used to review students' knowledge, for formative
assessment or as a break from traditional classroom activities. Moreover, in terms of
quizzes and examinations a platform google form is a safe and anti-cheating platform for
examinations. Because, you can use the locked mode to refrain cheating. When the
students switched the tab, it will immediately close the tab and the tab cannot be
restored and it can no longer be answered.
According to Emily Nito Cena, the use of "Four Pics One Word" in teaching
resulted in a significant improvement in the vocabulary of pupils.
A study conducted by Lucie Renard, POLL EVERYWHERE: students can respond
by using the web app, a text message via the Poll Everywhere smartphone app or even
Twitter. You get instant audience feedback. Students can enroll in a lesson group with
the special code you gave them. That way, they can follow the conversation and easily
make the assignments. It’s that simple. GOOGLE CLASSROOM: You could, for example,
give your students a link to a BookWidgets exercise in Google Classroom. Students see
this immediately on their smartphone and can get started right away.
SECOND CLAIM;

In today’s interconnected world, mobile phones have become a crucial tool that
provides individual immediate communication with their parents and love ones during
emergencies. Whether it be a medical crisis, safety concern, or natural disaster, having
mobile phones at hand can be a lifeline in times of urgent need. According to life360
phones are essential especially during unforeseen circumstances where quick action can
make a significant difference. This will help students to have a better access with their
families informing them of their exact location and situation in an emergency.
Additionally, in unfortunate events such as school emergencies, fires, gas leaks, or
injuries, having access to phone can be vital.

According to medium.com with a simple phone call, individuals can reach

emergency services such as police, fireman, and ambulance services, quickly and easily.
According to the study of Kathryn S. Beach Mobile phones can also be used to
activate emergency alert systems. Many mobile phones are now equipped with
emergency alert systems that can send out an alert to all users in a specific area, such as
a severe weather warning, or AMBER alert.

THIRD CLAIM;

Last but not the least, mobile phones help students like us senior high-school and
college students allows us to use educational tools for research, in order to access the
information at our fingertips. As we’re doing our practical research now, are we still
relying on libraries to find some rrl or review of the related literature where mobile
phones allowing informations at our fingertips? And also on collecting data from
students quantitatively and qualitatively. There are some various applications that
allows us collecting data in fastest way. An example of this is the google forms. according
to support.google.com with Google Forms, you can create surveys, you get instant
results as they come in and you can summarize results at a glance with charts and
graphs. according to the study of Michael Trucano Collecting data through the use of a
mobile phone can greatly speed up the data collection process. Where network
availability allows for near-instantaneous transmission of data to a central coordinating
group, the reduced amount of time that elapses between local data collection and
delivery can save weeks or even months of time in the overall data collection process.

CONCLUSION:

In conclusion, the argument mobile phones should be allowed inside schools for
educational purposes reveals the significant benefits that these devices can offer to
students. Mobile phones plays a significant role for communicating with parents and
love ones in case of emergencies. By incorporating mobile phones into quizzes,
activities, and examinations, students can experience a more interactive and engaging
learning environment. Mobile phones provide a convenient platform for conducting
quizzes and assessments, allowing for immediate feedback, refraining them to cheat and
for searching the answers and personalized learning experiences. Furthermore, these
devices enable students to access a vast array of resources for research purposes,
enhancing their ability to gather information and deepen their understanding of
academic topics in a fastest way. Ultimately, by embracing the educational potential of
mobile phones, schools can empower students to leverage technology for academic
growth and success.
IMPACT:

The argument that mobile phones should be allowed in the classroom is important
because it addresses the evolving role of technology in education and the changing
needs of students in today's digital age. Mobile phones can serve as valuable tools for
learning, providing access to educational resources, communication platforms, and
productivity apps. Allowing mobile phones in the classroom can enhance student
engagement, facilitate personalized learning experiences, and prepare students for the
technology-driven world they will enter upon graduation.

The problem of whether mobile phones should be allowed in the classroom is

considered serious due to the potential distractions and misuse that can arise from their
presence. Students may be tempted to use their phones for non-educational purposes,
such as texting, social media, or gaming, which can disrupt the learning environment
and impede academic progress. Additionally, there is a concern about the negative
impact of excessive screen time on students' attention spans, cognitive development,
and overall well-being.

The extent to which people are affected by the issue of allowing mobile phones in the
classroom can vary depending on individual circumstances and perspectives. Students
may be adversely affected by distractions and decreased academic performance, while
educators may face challenges in managing classroom behavior and enforcing mobile
phone policies. Parents and policymakers may also be impacted by concerns about the
educational value of mobile phones, student safety and security, and the need to balance
technology integration with traditional teaching methods. Overall, the debate over
whether mobile phones should be allowed in the classroom is a significant and
contentious issue that has far-reaching implications for students, educators, and society
as a whole.
POSSIBLE QUESTIONS WITH ANSWERS:

How is it that vital when students can ask their teachers or other faculty at school to
contact your family?

- Say it for an instance, if there is an earthquake or fire at school, do you think your
teachers can accompany you to contact your parents? No. Because they will be very busy
to ensure the safety of everyone. Having cellphones by yourself can allow you to have an
urgent access with your family.

What if you have no load to contact your parents?

- Students can connect their mobile phones with other students to have an internet.

What if there’s a student have no cell phones?

- Technology can promote camaraderie. Think this for an instance, if a student is done
with answering they can lend their cellphones in order to let the other student answer
the quiz or exam.

Do you think that with google forms students will refrain from cheating?

- Definitely yes.

Why do you say so? And how sure are you that students will not cheat when they just
talk to their classmates?

- As i’ve said earlier with google form and locked mode it can prevent cheating
refraining them to switch the tab and search for the answer. Secondly, we can’t control
the behavior of students giving answers chitchatting the answers especially when we’re
going out and there’s something important to do outside the classroom. Lastly, we are
just talking about the use of mobile phones inside the classroom. we are just focusing on
mobile phones.

What if the students has no load to answer the quizzes?

- That’s why we have personal hotspot and wifi. Students can connect their mobile
phones with each other to have an internet for everyone. As i’ve said earlier it can
promote camaraderie for everyone.

And how sure are you that students will not cheat if we allow classrooms in school?

- As said in the citation i have given earlier, technology is increasing and more advance
nowadays. Teachers may use google form for quizzes and examinations to prevent
cheating. It is because there is a lock mode in answering the data. dahil pag inalis nila sa

Why do teachers use technology just to take exams?

- Firstly, it won’t take too much of their time printing instead they can use the other time
for some essential things to do. Secondly, it is much easier to check because google form
allow users to get the results instantaneously. Lastly, they can monitor their students if
they intended to cheat.

How sure are you that the websites are reliable?

- Well because it is a study from the event on some phenomena and some proofs of its
reliability. According to Tony Rogers there are 8 ways to find the reliability of an
information. 1. look for established institutions. 2. look for sites with expertise. 3. Steer
clear of commercial sites. 4. Beware of bias. 5. Check the date. 6. Consider the site’s look.
7. Avoid anonymous authors. Lastly, Check the list.

why do we have to ban mobile phones a school does it really give distractions in classes
when you can just turn the do not disturb on and silent the phone?

Even if a teacher can confiscate a student's cell phone when it is taken out of class and
set it to silent mode, this is still not a complete solution to the issue of cell phones as a
distraction in the classroom. The confiscation of cellphones can be a pressure on
students and can cause a bad relationship between teacher and student. Moreover, even
if the cellphone is set to silent mode, the availability of notifications and other features
may cause the student to be tempted to check or use it even though it shouldn't be. In
this situation, the cellphone can be a distraction to the student's focus and participation
in class. So even though there are ways to control cellphone use, it's still not a complete
guarantee that it won't become a distraction in the classroom setting.Even with the
cellphone's "Do Not Disturb" mode turned on, it can still cause a distraction in the
classroom setting. Although "Do Not Disturb" mode prevents incoming calls, messages,
and notifications from various apps, the cellphone is not limited to these. Using a
cellphone for various activities such as browsing the internet, playing online games, or
watching videos can still cause distraction even if it is in "Do Not Disturb" mode. Even if
the "Do Not Disturb" mode is turned on, the presence of the cellphone itself inside the
classroom may cause the student to be tempted to check or use it at the wrong time. So
even though there are features that reduce interruptions from the cellphone, its very
presence in the classroom can still be a distraction to the student's focus and
participation in their studies.

Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed judges, faculty and staffs of CRT who are here to listen,
fellow debaters, and listeners, a pleasant morning/afternoon to all. I am almarie queen s
javier grade 11 student from College for Research and Technology - Gapan Campus. My
teammates and i are proud to support the topic that mobile phone should be NOT be
allowed inside the school. We will deliver our 3 main claims. The first one is mobile
phones can be a distracton in the classroom. secondly, mobile phones promotes
cheating. Lastly, banning mobile phones can encourage students with their participation
in class discussions actively, and develop better face-to-face communication skills.

BODY:

The presence of mobile phones among students has raised questions about their impact
on learning, focus, and academic performance. Incoming calls, messages, and
notifications can disrupt and interrup classroom activities. According to the book The
Distracted Mind: Ancient Brains in a High-Tech World, students become distracted when
they are pursuing a goal that really matters and something blocks their efforts to
achieve it. This is what happens when technology is used in the classroom. according to
sherri gordon using electronic devices in the classroom can even lower students' grades.
According to the study of innerdrive, The mere presence of a mobile phone can make
students miss out on the full experience of a fun activity. Notifications, messages and
social media alerts can easily distract them from the present moment and harm both
their engagement and enjoyment. When it comes to studying, mobile phones can be a
major distraction for students. Apps are engineered to keep users hooked and engaged
for long periods of time, making it difficult for students to focus on their academic
work once they start using their devices – or even by just having them nearby.

Mobile phones have revolutionized the way we communicate and access information,
but they have also opened up avenues for dishonest behavior, such as cheating. With the
ability to discreetly send messages, access the internet, and store information, mobile
phones have made it easier for individuals to engage in cheating in various aspects of life
especially in academicsaccording to wp.nyu.edu by switching on their mobile devices
and snapping a photo of a classmate’s work, enabling them to copy that homework
almost word for word in order to avoid doing it themselves. Students are also using
mobile phones or earpieces during exams, by activating their device’s infrared,
Bluetooth, airdrop or texting applications to share exam information with other test
takers. With the rise of technology, academic cheating is becoming more and more
prolific, with hundreds of thousands of websites now offering custom-written papers,
selling cheat aids and publishing how-to-cheat videos, teaching students anything from
how to load programmable calculators with exam responses to how to replace a water
bottle’s nutrition information with mathematics notes.

Banning mobile phones in the classroom has the potential to significantly enhance
students' engagement in class discussions and foster the development of stronger face-
to-face communication skills. According to scheideit.com Reduced
Distractions: Cellphones can be addictive and disrupt focus, hindering learning and
engagement in the classroom. Also, students easily gets distracted through social media
platforms. Banning them promotes attentiveness to lessons and class
activities.Improved Academic Performance: Studies have shown a positive correlation
between banning mobiles and higher test scores, potentially due to increased focus and
reduced multi-tasking.Reduced Cyberbullying and Social Pressure: Online
harassment and social media pressures can significantly impact students’ mental well-
being. Social media and digital communication can be breeding grounds for
cyberbullying, negatively impacting students’ mental health and creating a hostile
school environment. Banning phones in school minimizes these issues and creates a
safer environment. Reduced Dependence on Technology: Overreliance on technology
can impede development of critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities.
Banning phones encourages students to rely on their own intellect and resourcefulness.
Also, cellphones can facilitate cheating through text messages, internet searches, and
hidden notes. This undermines the integrity of academic achievement.

CONCLUSION:

In conclusion, the decision to prohibit mobile phones in the classroom is a beneficial one
for several reasons. Firstly, mobile phones have proven to be a significant distraction for
students, hindering their ability to fully engage in the learning process. Additionally, the
presence of mobile phones can facilitate cheating and academic dishonesty,
compromising the integrity of assessments and evaluations. By implementing a ban on
mobile phones, educational institutions can create a more focused and conducive
learning environment that encourages active participation in class discussions and
fosters the development of essential face-to-face communication skills. Ultimately, the
restriction of mobile phone usage in the classroom not only mitigates distractions and
cheating but also cultivates a more interactive and collaborative educational experience
for students.

IMPACT:

The argument that mobile phones should not be allowed in the classroom is important
because it addresses the potential negative impact of mobile phone usage on students'
learning experiences and academic performance. By restricting mobile phones in the
classroom, educators aim to minimize distractions, promote focus, and create a more
conducive environment for teaching and learning. This argument is significant as it
highlights the need to establish boundaries and guidelines for technology use in
educational settings to optimize student engagement and success.

The problem of mobile phones being allowed in the classroom is considered serious due
to the widespread prevalence of mobile phone addiction and the detrimental effects it
can have on students' cognitive abilities, social interactions, and overall well-being.
Excessive use of mobile phones can lead to decreased attention spans, reduced academic
achievement, and a decline in face-to-face communication skills. Moreover, the potential
for cheating and academic dishonesty facilitated by mobile phones poses a threat to the
integrity of assessments and evaluations in educational institutions.

People are affected by the issue of mobile phones being allowed in the classroom in
various ways. Students may experience decreased academic performance, difficulty
focusing, and challenges in developing essential communication skills when mobile
phones are present in the learning environment. Educators may struggle to manage
classroom distractions, enforce mobile phone policies, and maintain a productive
teaching atmosphere. Parents may be concerned about the negative impact of mobile
phone usage on their children's academic success and overall well-being. Additionally,
policymakers and society as a whole may be affected by the broader implications of
allowing mobile phones in educational settings, including issues related to student
behavior, academic integrity, and the balance between technology integration and
traditional teaching methods. Overall, the argument against allowing mobile phones in
the classroom is significant and raises important considerations about the role of
technology in education and its impact on student learning outcomes.
