Answer any five questions

b) Consider Frounhofer diffraction of light in a single slit. Draw a ray diagram to explain it.
Derive an equation for obtaining the expression of the intensity at a point on the screen as a
function of the angular separation.

c) Light of wavelength 5200A is incident on a plane transmission grating. Number of lines per
cm of the grating is 4.5x I 03 . What is the angular separation between the third and the fourth

distance and released. Prove that it will move with simple harmonic motion and find its
period of vibration.
