V150 Results File Access Via USB

Downloading Test Results to a PC/Tablet Using USB Cable

At VeEX®, we know the importance of having access to mission-critical test results and reports. We strive to provide as
many ways as possible to access those files, addressing most scenarios our users may encounter. That includes using a web
browser (Web Access, Web Remote, or EZ-Remote™) over LAN, direct Ethernet connection, 4G/5G, WiFi, or using the test
set’s access point (AP) function to build an impromptu WLAN. There is also R-Server cloud services and direct export to USB
memory sticks. With plenty of ways to get test results from the test set into a computer or server, there are still some cases,
where many of these options can be restricted by IT or for security reasons. For example, WiFi may not be allowed in certain
communication equipment rooms and USB memory sticks may be banned from secured facilities. We provide other
alternatives that should work in such cases. Updating the test set to the latest software version available may be required.

Accessing Test Results Files Via USB Connection

The V150 family of test sets (e.g. FX150+, FX180, MTX150, WX150, CX310), offer an alternative to USB memory sticks and
WiFi file retrieval: USB Results File Access. In this “OTG1 Device” mode, the V150 test set acts as a USB storage device, when
connected to a computer or tablet, providing between 1 to 9 GB of available shared storage. All that is required is the
appropriate USB cable and changing some settings in the V150-type test set.

The following procedure uses the MTX150 test set as an example (valid for all V150; user interface may be slightly different).
Activate the Results Sharing function, so test results get copied to a shared partition in the tests set’s internal storage.
1. Tap on the  (if required) and  buttons, on the top-
left corner of the screen to expand the side menu.
2. Open the Utilities menu bar.
3. Go to > Settings > Global General Settings. Set Share
Results = ON, and press Yes to confirm the selection.
This also enables an automatic PDF conversion of all
files saved.
When ready to transfer the results from the MTX150
4. Go to > Settings > Global General Settings and set OTG
Port Mode = Device (don’t forget to set it back to Host
when finished). This step is not required for other V150
test sets, which offer automatic OTG mode detection.
5. Connect the micro-B USB side of the OTG cable to the test set and the other end to the computer.

6. Tap on the OK button when asked to Allow external access through USB OTG port.
7. In the rare event that a Windows computer may initially fail to mount the storage partition and ask to perform a
Scan/Fix/Repair routine. Follow the computer’s ‘Fix’ instructions to get it properly detected.
8. Once the computer’s File Manager opens, it will display sub-folders for Results, PDF Reports, Screenshots, etc. At this
point, files and folders can be dragged and dropped using the computer’s mouse or touchpad.

Notes:
• While the test set is sharing its internal storage partition with a computer, via USB, any new saved test results or
screenshots may not be accessible (visible) to the computer until the next connection.
• Automatic PDF conversion and export is done in the background, when new results are saved. For certain applications,
this process may take a few seconds to complete. A test sets may prompt users to wait until the conversion finishes.
