Course Description
In today’s environment of shortening product life cycle, complex corporate joint ventures, and
stiffening requirements for customer service, it has become necessary to consider the complete
scope of supply chain management, ranging from supply of raw materials, through factories and
warehouses, to meet the demand in sales outlets. Supply logistics-related costs account for 20-
25% of a typical firm’s total costs. Logistics and supply chain management today represents a
greater challenge as well as a tremendous opportunity for most firms.
The course on supply chain management will focus on critical issues of design and management
of supply chain. It would help develop the understanding of individual components of supply
chains and their inter-relationships with other functions of the company such as marketing,
manufacturing and finance. The course shall provide the students required knowledge and skills
in supply chain management, which they can employ for the growth of their organizations.

Learning Objectives
The broad objectives:

1. To understand relationships between various factors/drivers of supply chain and measure

its Impact on cost-benefit for supply of products and services

2. To understand supply chain strategy, supply chain network design, planning and
coordination for business excellence

3. To equip students with tools and techniques for critically analyzing, designing and
improving the management of the supply chain .

Pedagogy
To develop conceptual and analytical skills, a mix of lectures, experience sharing, case-study
discussion, illustrative numerical problems, assignments and project shall be employed. Since
students' performance shall be accessed through a continuous system of quizzes, assignments,
presentations and End-term-examinations, students are expected to demonstrate active class
participation.

Course Requirements
The right attitude is the most important requirement for the course.
Students are expected to do the required readings before each session to enhance their
understanding and add value to class discussion.
Evaluation
Students will be evaluated based on multiple methods. The methods to be employed along with
their weightage is listed below:
