Model summary of pre-class text:

'The text was about an extremely long traffic jam, which stretched from Beijing to Tibet and lasted for ten
days. The traffic jam was caused because roadworks were being carried out on a stretch of road that
became damaged after coal mines were discovered in Mongolia meaning the road got much more use.
Many drivers had to stop their cars and lorries and didn't move again for hours which meant they were
stuck without food or drink. People set up stalls selling bottled water, cigarettes and food to make the
most of the large number of willing customers in one place. Some drivers enjoyed the break, saying they
were pleased to be getting paid to sit and play cards or have naps in their vehicles. The traffic jam is an
example of the terrible congestion problems in Beijing, where the number of cars on the road is ever
increasing.'
