    electricity generated by the photovoltaic (PV) panels is sent through an on-grid
    inverter, which converts it to AC power that’s compatible with the grid.

    Often, solar panels will generate more electricity than what one is capable of
    consuming. Any excess solar power that you generate is exported to the electricity grid
    and you usually get paid a feed-in-tariff (FiT) or credits for the energy you export.
