Hi! I’m Jen!

I’ve spent the last 15 years

in the casino industry, and
I’m honored to have called
Vegas home for over a
decade. Aside from my
experience enjoying this
city with my family, I have
assisted hundreds of
thousands of guests
celebrate their special
occasion from choosing the perfect dinner reservation to
getting the most out of their time in Vegas. I am happy to make
my tips available to all of you in hopes that you too will come
to know and love Vegas. When I originally published this guide
in 2021, we were managing a freshly post-COVID shutdown
world. As the year passed, Vegas exploded with new concepts
and fun. While working with 10,000+ of you to directly plan
your vacations, my knowledge of the city grew to incorporate
the experiences of so many amazing visitors. It is time to put
that feedback into an updated version of the guide.
In addition to this e-book, I offer a concierge service! You get my phone
number and can text and reach me almost 24/7 with specific, direct
questions about your upcoming visit. You may use the number while
you’re in town for a quick suggestion or answer. I will make myself
available to help source information, fact find or assist in any way I
reasonably can. I want you to have the best visit possible. If you are
interested in upgrading your e-guide to the concierge level package
please visit:

i
Vegas is constantly growing. As casinos change ownership or
rebrand, some information may become outdated. I will do my
best to provide updates as needed. I am not partnered with
ANY brand, and the places I recommend in this guide are my
own opinions and based on the feedback I’ve received from
others. I am inherently distrustful of “paid for” reviews, so you
can trust that these are the real deal!
I have poured years of my life into sourcing the below
information. If you find even a little bit of it helpful, leaving a
positive comment would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so
much for your friendship and support. Viva Las Vegas!
♥,

HOTEL UPGRADES & TRAVEL
PLANNING

Vegas Travel Quick Facts

T he most affordable months to visit (flight + average hotel

room) are Jan, Feb, April and September. The most
expensive months are March, July and December. The mildest
weather is May and October, but these months can be super
windy. It rarely rains, but March sometimes brings unexpected
downpours. December is shorts weather right up until
Christmas. Book your travel accommodations 90 days in
advance for the sweet spot-on pricing. Too early and last
minute both miss out on specials and discounts.

The “$20 Trick” or “Vegas Sandwich”

There are thousands of videos, websites and forum posts
alleging that if you approach a front desk agent and sneak a
$20 bill in between your credit card and ID, they will slyly
accept the bill with the understanding to upgrade you
immediately. One wink and a nod later and you’re off to the
Presidential Suite.
This is both silly and cliché. Enough so that front line
employees get a little chuckle out of it. This is also
COMPLETELY unnecessary. Let me explain.
ALL tips/tokes received are disclosed to surveillance. This
has nothing to do with taxes and everything to do with internal
theft. If you are gifted anything as a casino employee, it must
be laid out and visible to cameras before you tuck it away in a

1
pocket or drawer. Spending our lives working under cameras,
front line employees are well versed in clearing our hands and
disclosing tips. For that reason, there is no need to be
“sneaky”. If you wish to tip the front desk, lay it on the counter
and ask for an upgrade. They get tipped all the time and it is
both acceptable and encouraged.
Front line employees have some latitude for moving guests
around in the hotel, but they don’t actually have the ability to
write “comps” or give away anything that isn’t made available
by the hotel according to expected occupancy. You probably
aren’t getting the Presidential Suite. They do, however, want
to fill the best rooms. If occupancy is low, you may get lucky
with a better room type.
Your tip is NOT the reason you were upgraded. It is a very
nice gesture, and you should absolutely tip hard working
service providers. Internal controls monitor all front-line
employees to make sure they aren’t running a “business within
a business”. They upgrade just as many people who tip as
those who do not. If surveillance found a consistent correlation
between tips and upgrades, a front desk agent could find their
job at risk. So, with this in mind, I will share with you the best
ways to ensure you’re upgraded below. Enjoy!

BOOK DIRECT WITH HOTEL

Exception: If you are visiting and on a tight budget or have
no plans to be in your hotel room, use whatever 3rd party site
you prefer. When I am working with clients to find deals, I like
to use the site or app for CheapTickets.com. They are a
subsidiary of Expedia and trustworthy, but always have a
coupon code you can search on Google. The codes are good
for 10-16% off depending on season and while they can’t be

2
used at every hotel, they’re valid at most. This site seems to
come in a few dollars cheaper than other travel sites.
If you plan to gamble while in town, want upgrades, or
desire a particularly nice room, ALWAYS book directly with the
hotel you wish to visit. When you book 3rd party you are signing
up for the least desirable “run of house” rooms, leaving your
assignment to whatever is left over at the time of check in. Yes,
you may pay a little more booking direct, but it’s the difference
in shopping the clearance bin or the best product available. A
few tips:
 Ask if the hotel will price match 3rd party sites (they often
will!)
 Ask if there are any discounts available for first time
visitors, players club members, students or any
category that applies.
 Specify any requests directly with the hotel, such as
“king bed”, “fountain view”, “near elevator”, etc.
 Let them know if you’re celebrating a special occasion.

Booking direct makes it much easier for hotel staff to give

you complimentary upgrades and waive extra fees like parking
or resort fees. For more on that see: Upgrades & Comps.
Be aware of incredibly busy travel times like CES weekend,
March Madness, Super Bowl and NYE. Book as early as
possible to secure accommodations. You can’t bargain shop
these events and a large number of premium
accommodations are held by hosts for high rollers, making
their availability limited and in high demand. Find the rooms
you’re interested in at the property where you want to stay at
a price point you’re comfortable with? Go ahead and book,
regardless of how far in advance it is. One of the many benefits

3
of booking directly is being able to have the room cost adjusted
down should they become less expensive. You may call the
hotel reservation line anytime before your visit and they will
correct your rate to the best current rate.

Hotel Upgrades
Front desk employees do not have the power to give you a
Presidential Suite in exchange for a hidden $20. They do have
some latitude with higher floors, better views and room type
upgrades including some suite options. It all depends on what
is available or yet unreserved. The casino would rather have
the best rooms inhabited than left empty. Tips for scoring the
upgrade:
 Be pleasant and kind to the front desk agent.
 Tip to show your appreciation for their hard work, but
realize if there are no upgrades available you aren’t
getting your tip back. While tips won’t necessarily
increase your chances, they are always appreciated.
 ASK if there are any upgrades available. Share if you’re
a first time or loyal visitors, on your honeymoon or
celebrating a birthday. If you have something specific
in mind, like a fountain view, communicate what you’d
like.
 Shorter stays are more likely to be upgraded than long
ones.
 Weekdays often have more flexibility than weekends.
 Check in early in the check in window before supply is
reduced.

4
Reservations for Shows, Dinner & Transportation
After your room is booked, make reservations for any
clubs, restaurants, speakeasies or cabanas you’re interested
in. Lock them up even if you aren’t yet sure of your itinerary.
You can always cancel a reservation you don’t need, penalty-
free, but you may not be able to score last minute spots at in-
demand dining destinations.
Pre-book your ride-share or shuttle transportation from the
airport to the strip. Waiting until you arrive could leave you
waiting at the airport during peak times.

5
FEE REMOVAL & COMPS IN LAS
VEGAS

Resort & Parking Fees Waived, Comps & More

“C omps” is a gaming industry term for “complimentary or

free”, as in “the host comped our dinner to the
steakhouse”. There are two ways to have part (or all) of your
visit comped. One is to relay an unpleasant review if you
experience a guest service failure or your visit fails to meet
your expectations. Most properties use internal patron
management software to note guest preferences, tendencies,
and previous issues. If you’re habitually difficult or prone to
“have issues”, they will see a notation while they review your
history. Keep this in mind if guest service seems cooler
towards your demands than previous experiences. You should
always communicate legitimate issues or disappointments to
the available management team. Creating scenarios to
escape fees or earn upgrades will only work once or twice.
The preferred method is by gambling at the casino resort
you’re staying at. If you plan to gamble make sure to sign up
for the (free) property loyalty card (Player’s Club) and use it
every time you bet, play a slot machine, or spend money on
property. Yes, even in the gift shop or at a restaurant! Always
ask if they are able to record your spending to help you earn
“tier credits”. Some venues do, and it never hurts to ask. The
bottom line: make certain ALL gambling is recorded.
The night before you check out, visit the supervisor or host
that corresponds to your type of gambling. Slots? See the

6
casino host. Blackjack or craps? See a pit supervisor. Poker?
See the poker room shift manager on duty. Let them know you
had a wonderful visit and ask if your play has been sufficient
enough to get some of your resort fees comped. If you’ve
spent time playing on property, they will almost always waive
some of the extra charges. You may even get them all waived.
If you have spent a significant amount of time gambling on
property, consider these tips:
 You can ask the casino host to comp room service
charges retroactively. They will look at your play and
often absorb the cost of your in-room dining.
 Show tickets are very hard to get comped but one
loophole is to see shows on the property you’re visiting
and charge the tickets to your room. Then ask the
casino host to comp “some of your room charges.” If
you’ve gambled and they can justify the courtesy, this
is a back door mechanism for comped show tickets.
 Even a small amount of recorded gambling can get
parking fees waived.

ASK. ASK. ASK. Remember, the job of a host and gaming

supervisors includes customer retention. All of these positions
will accept tips when offered, but not in exchange for hook ups.
Tip for service, time and attention. Just as powerful as a tip is
a positive comment card mentioning these employees by
name. Begin your interaction by saying “I’ve had such a
wonderful time. Do you have a comment card or will there be
an exit survey after I check out? Or is it better for me to leave
a Trip Advisor review?”. Casinos heavily weigh their trip
advisor rankings, and mentioning an employee by name
positively can really give them positive recognition internally.
Conversely, a negative mention can have long term

7
ramifications. Unless someone is genuinely horrible, try to give
them the benefit of the doubt and avoid using their name.
Many properties will send a follow up survey by email to
gauge your level of satisfaction during your stay. Mentioning
any positive or negative feedback during this follow up is
extremely impactful.
You are unlikely to get resort fees waived without SOME
record of gambling. However, if you book direct and simply ask
nicely, you may be surprised at what you can get. Remember,
they want your good review and if you give them the chance
to wow you, they often will!
You will almost never have success asking for comps over
the phone before your visit. Always ask in person.

Quick Tips:
 Gamble/Play where you stay!
 Apply for the property credit card.
 Advance your status through the player’s card by
gambling, shopping and eating on property and making
sure it’s recorded on your card.
 ASK to have them waived.
 When eating/shopping on property ask for parking
validation.

Remember that you are a hot commodity for these resort

properties and they WANT your repeat business.
If you’re frequently gambling on property, build a
relationship with the “suits” (low and mid-level managers) who
are around when you play. A well placed $5-$20 tip, gratitude
for their exemplary guest service, and even simply

8
remembering their name can come in handy when you visit
them before checking out and asking if they can help with your
fees. My primary role in casino management has been in these
specific positions and whenever I am able, I not only waive
fees but will personally escort guests to the front of the hotel
lines to expedite their check out process. We WANT to wow
you. Give us the chance.
If you are not a gambler or “big spender,” you may want to
consider staying at resorts who advertise free parking.
Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, Encore, Sahara, Strat, Resorts
World (expected to begin charging in 2022), TI and Tropicana
all allow guests to park at no charge. Caesar’s properties no
longer extends complimentary self-parking to registered hotel
guests. Rates average $18 per day.
On Fremont Street, validation is as simple as asking for it
at casinos like Binion’s or Four Queens. If you’re
uncomfortable asking, a purchased cup of coffee or slice of
cake in their café is enough to have your parking validated at
most downtown casinos.

More Information on Resort Fee Removal:

Caesar’s/El Dorado owned properties seem to look for a
minimum of 3-5 hours played per day and several hundred
dollars per day wagered to even begin a conversation about
waiving fees. Caesar’s owned resorts are the most difficult
properties to request and receive comps from.
MGM Resorts are referring people to the MGM Rewards
desks for play evaluation. If you’ve played several hours per
day and wagered several hundred per day and the Rewards
desk is unwilling to help you, be persistent (but kind!) Ask to
speak to a host or supervisor for play evaluation. They

9
absolutely can issue you discretionary comps based on your
play.
Sahara resort claims they do not waive resort fees.
However, you may ask the host to consider “reducing some of
your charges based on play” and they have the ability to comp
food, shows and entire room rates.
If you weren’t already planning on gambling, wagering
money in hopes of escaping fees is rarely a winning
proposition. Most often, it’s best to just pay the fees unless you
had already budgeted for gaming expenses.
Casinos consider a combination of how long you spend
gambling and how much you wager. Lower bets that keep you
gambling longer pack a bigger punch than wagering larger
amounts over a few minutes.
If you request a comp or ask for a fee to be waived and you
are told “no”, don’t hesitate to ask why. Ask the host what you
could have done differently to increase your value as a return
guest. They will usually let you know where you fell below
expectations in your gaming/money spent.
It is becoming popular with budget properties to restrict
access to casino hosts. Instead, many now give guests a 1-
800 number to call. Most of the time, calling these numbers
will not result in receiving additional comps. If the casino you’re
visiting says a host is unavailable, go to the gaming pit/table
games and ask who you can speak to about having your play
evaluated.

How to Get Future Vegas Visits FREE

Regardless of which casino-hotel property you’re visiting,
they all have a loyalty club or player’s card. Sign up for the one
where you are booked, but also plan to visit competitor

10
properties that you might like to return to in the future. I will
break down below which casinos are owned by which
company. At each of these properties sign up for their loyalty
card and then spend 30 minutes (at least) gambling with your
card on record. Each slot machine will have a slot to log your
card. Pit, sports-book or poker wagers will record your card
when you buy-in and make note of your spend. The marketing
cycle for most casinos is approx. 90 days. Depending on
where they are in the marketing cycle, you can expect to
receive customer return offers in the mail a few months after
you return home. Because these properties want you to return
and give them your business, they will try to lure you back with
complimentary hotel stays, food, money for gambling and
occasional show tickets.
Make sure to register each player’s card online or through
the brand’s app to take advantage of digital only offers and
email solicitations.
You can stack these offers for a future visit, spending two
or three complimentary nights at each property and manage a
lengthy enjoyable stay at minimal cost. Then, gamble while
you’re in town to get those parking fees and resort fees waived
as well.

REMEMBER:
 It is perfectly appropriate to ask for comps or courtesies
if you’ve been gambling.
 Even if your room is already complimentary, don’t
hesitate to ask for additional fees, upgrades, or charges
to be waived.

The Importance of Building Loyalty

After you have targeted the properties, you’d like to receive
future offers from and given them some play, I advise picking
one brand or chain and working on building “player status” with
that brand. I typically suggest starting with MGM because
they’re the most prolific player’s club and the easiest to build
status with. MGM’s player’s club has multiple “tiers” based on
how much you spend annually in gamble, hotel, property
owned restaurants and shows. The quickest way to earn tier
credits is through gambling. However, even if you’re not a
gambler, your room reservations and plenty of shopping and
dining options will give you credits as well.
Tier credits are important, as they rank your value to the
casino properties. Once you’ve achieved Pearl status - the first
status jump - you score free parking. The next level (Gold) gets
you complimentary upgrades to hotel rooms, no resort fees
and VIP line passes. Each tier unlocks perks exclusive to that
level.
Once you’ve achieved a mid-level or higher tier with one
major casino chain, their competitors will often “status match”
in hopes of luring you to their properties. Status match
windows are not always in effect but a visit to the player’s club

13
or a quick web search will let you know when they are. You
may also call and ask to speak to a host and request if they
will offer you a courtesy status match. Some properties allow
their hosts this latitude and asking isn’t inappropriate.
After you’ve reached a desirable player status with each
major chain, your ability to earn comps, free hotel rooms,
priority dining reservations, waived resort and parking fees,
and so much more will increase exponentially.

Tips for Quickly Increasing Player Status:

 ▪ Apply for and use the casino branded credit card for
everyday expenses that will add to your tier credits.
 ▪ If you’re prior/active military or a first responder, ask
the player’s card guest service desk if there is an
upgrade for your service.
 ▪ I typically recommend married couples have separate
accounts so each party will receive independent comp
offers. However, if you both gamble, having a joint
account will help you reach higher status quickly.

EATING IN LAS VEGAS

The Best Food in Las Vegas

T he single best dining decision you can make in Vegas is

to take a tour with Lip Smacking Foodie Tours. They offer
a truly unique experience that takes the stress of planning and
organizing off the table - allowing you to focus on enjoying your
vacation time. With each tour, you’ll visit 3 or 4 of the best
restaurants in Las Vegas with a VIP host, enjoy a tasting menu
at each venue, and walk right in with reservations for the best
table in the house with every detail already handled. You’ll
dine on the most popular dishes at each restaurant. It’s a full
meal, not samples. Tax and gratuities are included in the tour
cost. The only optional upgrade is adding the cocktail
package. They can accommodate all dietary restrictions, and
they work with solo travelers and can accommodate your large
groups/parties. Tours start as low as $125. For the ultimate
date night, their Savory Bites Neon Lights tour ends with a
helicopter flight over the strip. All of their experiences feel
exclusive and elevated and truly allow you to experience the
best of Vegas in just a few hours. Visit
www.lipsmackingfoodietours.com for more information on this
unique culinary delight.

Unique Must-Visit Bars/Lounges

Minus5 Ice Bar has three locations in town (Mandalay Bay
Shops, Linq Promenade and Venetian Grand Canal Shops).
They all offer the opportunity to drink and play games inside a
bar made of solid ice. The Mandalay Bay location offers a

15
tremendous deal called their “Fire & Ice” experience. It’s $95
per person (buy in person to avoid online fees) and you get
the premium ice bar experience with souvenirs and drinks,
photos, a visit to a hidden bourbon speakeasy with a premium
drink and souvenirs and a visit to a daiquiri bar for a premium
customized frozen drink to-go.
The three daiquiri bars located right outside each Minus5
ice attraction are the best places to buy frozen drinks. You can
purchase any daiquiri without alcohol and if you choose to add
alcohol, it isn’t pre-mixed. You know you’re getting what you
pay for. Avoid pre-mixed scams.
On Spring Mountain - only five minutes from the strip - is
Golden Tiki. This full-blown tiki bar features theme nights and
all-night parties. Dance to 80’s jams, eat Dole Whip, and enjoy
a LGBTQ friendly atmosphere. They feature a DJ most nights.
The good food and an even better atmosphere creates an all-
around great time (and a break from the casinos!)
Nerd Bar on Fremont on Neonopolis has a giant
mechanical penis you can ride instead of the typical
mechanical bull. This cosplay-inclusive, video game-themed
bar also offers the only bowling on Fremont. The service can
be hit or miss, so make it a stop on your route rather than a
destination.
Gatsby - inside Resort’s World - is a 1920’s chic themed
cocktail lounge with velvet couches, Instagram worthy décor
and a secret menu (request a matchbook to see it) that
features cocktails you’d only find on food network.
Legacy Club at Circa presents some of the best views in
the city with panoramic rooftop views of the strip. At sunset,
golden hour creates an absolutely magical scape for the most
beautiful pictures.

16
Vanderpump Paris inside Paris Resort is expensive but
beautiful with indulgent desserts, stunning shareable played
and IG worthy over the top cocktails.

What are the BEST hidden bars or speakeasies?

Located inside the Commonwealth bar on Fremont Street
you’ll find the “Laundry Room.” This is one of the more elite
hidden speakeasies in the city. Reservations are required, and
you may make reservations fourteen days in advance (and not
a minute sooner.) As it’s a tiny venue, they do not accept
parties larger than four. However, their master mixologists
make this a must-stop if you love the idea of a prohibition era
speakeasy.
Located inside Cosmopolitan are four hidden concepts. On
level 2, in the back of the Block 16 food court behind a dark
green door painted with a donkey is “Ghost Donkey” - a
sparkly, ethereal, art filled mezcal and nacho bar. Entry is first
come, first served.
On level 3 you’ll find Beauty and Essex, a jewel-toned
opulent restaurant hidden behind a dingy pawn shop with
miscellaneous valuables. Reservations are required. The pro-
tip here is to plan on cocktails and appetizers but skip the full
meal. The vibes are immaculate, but the food is overpriced for
what you receive, and the service is hit or miss.
Also on level 3 (between Blue Ribbon and Jaleo) is an
unmarked hallway leading to Secret Pizza. Not only is this one
of the best pizzerias in the city, but it’s also a true “hidden-in-
plain-sight” concept worth checking out.
On the first floor near Chandelier Bar, behind the the
barbershop, is “Barbershop Cuts and Cocktails”. This hidden

17
cocktail lounge features nightly live music and a lively, classic
vibe.
Though it isn’t a hidden venue, the Chandelier Bar at
Cosmo features a secret drink. Called the “Verbena,” it’s
similar to a margarita on the rocks but served with a floating
Sichuan flower that, when bitten, creates a unique buzzing
sensation in the mouth. For $15, this cocktail is a bargain and
a hidden gem.
The Underground speakeasy beneath the Mob Museum is
another fantastic venue. You don’t need a ticket to the Mob
Museum to get in, but you should totally check it out. It’s a
wonderful and unique experience. See the Mob Museum’s
Instagram for the rotating password to enter the speakeasy.
1923 Prohibition Bar inside the Shoppes at Mandalay Bay
isn’t traditionally hidden but keeps with the speakeasy vibe
and features a variety of stunning bourbons. Pair it with a trip
to the ice bar in the same Shoppes and have a true “fire and
ice” experience.
At Park MGM, seek out “On The Record” for dancing and
drinks.
Inside Resorts World - behind the café with blue shelving
just past the food court - is a Tokyo style hidden bar called
“Here Kitty Kitty Vice Den”. They require a two-drink minimum
to check out the venue and no longer offer food, but it’s a
beautiful well-hidden spot for late night cocktails.
Off-Strip, check out Capo’s mafia themed restaurant and
bar. This old-school, Jersey-style Italian spot with unusual
food pairings features a secret martini menu. Order the
“Sharon Stone”.

18
In Chinatown, check out Mas Por Favor hidden down a
side hallway of a popular taqueria. This cartel themed
speakeasy features Mexican flavors in a vibrant, delightful
aesthetic.
At Aria in the food hall upstairs is a donut shop. After hours,
behind the counter, is the entrance to “Easy’s” a lounge with
designer cocktails and live music.

BUFFETS
At this time, most buffets are not expected to return.
Among those that have reopened, only Bacchanal (Caesar’s
Palace), South Point, Main Street Station, Palms, Bellagio and
Wynn have dinner service. The others are limited to breakfast
and lunch, closing at 3 pm each day. If you have interest in
either Bacchanal or Wynn, you need to make reservations. A
couple weeks in advance is advised for Bacchanal, but a day
or two is usually sufficient for Wynn.
Buffets only open for breakfast & lunch:
Excalibur, Circus Circus, MGM, Luxor, Cosmopolitan.
Wynn is the overall best buffet choice.
A great alternative to the traditional buffets are the Brazilian
Steakhouses. Galpao Gaucho, Texas De Brazil, Fogo De
Chao all offer “all you can eat” options that are a little more
upscale than a buffet. Avoid Pampas.

Chinatown: Culinary Haven

One of the most underrated bargains in Las Vegas is
Chinatown and its amenities. Just a mile and a half off the strip
on Spring Mountain, Chinatown is a go-to for phenomenal
food, inexpensive massage and cool bars.

19
For a massage at a fraction of the cost of the casino spas,
check out Mutao Wellness or Bangkok Thai.
Visit Fuku Burger for killer fusion burgers, 303 In The Cut
for the best food truck in Vegas and Shokku Ramen for
outstanding 24/7 noodles. Don’t skip China Mama for the best
casual Chinese food or The Paletta Bar for affordable
customizable ice cream bars made fresh.
For a true foodie experience, try the French tasting menu
at Partage.
Lamaii for some of the best Thai food in Vegas. China
Mama for some of the best Chinese. EDO Tapas for absolutely
elevated tapas. Tres Cazuelas is the spot for Sunday Paella
Brunch and truly fantastic food.
Chinatown is worth taking an afternoon to explore, even if
just for food. It’s also convenient to Area 15. Area 15 has very
limited dining options, so tethering a dinner in Chinatown to
your visit is a solid play.

The Best Steakhouses

Bazaar Meat (Sahara) is one of the top steakhouses in the
country. You’re going to pay several hundred per couple, but
it’s arguably worth every penny.
The swingin’ tomahawk steak at Smith & Wollensky
(Venetian) for $230 is one of the most impressive steak
presentations in the city.
The oldest steakhouse in Vegas, Golden Steer, isn’t
impressive from the outside. But inside, it’s a throwback to the
old school Vegas with white glove service, impressive surf &
turf, and some of the best steaks in the city. They book 3-4
weeks in advance for prime-time reservations.

20
Carversteak at Resorts World is outstanding. It’s relatively
new but truly exceptional. CUT inside Palazzo is a solid choice
but skews a little fancier if you really want something upscale.
For steak on a budget, check out Alder & Birch at The
Orleans (one mile off-strip on Tropicana) or Cornerstone at
Gold Coast. For a reasonable $120 or so per couple you can
have an amazing meal.
Stay away from Tender at Luxor (utterly forgetful) or the
Outback on the strip, which features inflated costs and about
one third the options of their typical menu. Hugo Cellar, a
previous recommendation, is now a hard pass.
For the most exceptional dining experience you can have,
book Lip Smacking Foodie Tour’s Ultimate Steakhouse Tour.
It’s $999 per person and includes three stops at the top
steakhouses in the city. For this price, you’ll enjoy a tasting
menu at each stop paired with wine or cocktails, luxury
transportation between stops, a VIP host, the best tables at
each venue, and more. Stops include legendary venues like
Bazaar Meat, Bellagio Prime and Mastro’s Ocean Club. You
will dine on delicacies like imported Kobe beef, tomahawk,
Japanese Wagyu, king crab, lobster, and more. All tax and
gratuity is included and they’re able to accommodate dietary
restrictions.
For amazing views and romantic ambience, you can’t go
wrong with Top of the World (Strat) or Eiffel Tower. At Top of
the World, paying for a window view isn’t necessary. The way
the dining room is built and rotates, every seat offers a
stunning scape to look upon. At Eiffel Tower, it’s worth the
upgrade fee to sit by the window. They also offer a coveted
“most romantic table in the city” designation with their “Iconic
Table 56”. Expect to pay $100 per person just for the privilege

21
of enjoying the table, but you will be in a private corner poised
well above the Bellagio Fountains and will be treated to a
commemorative souvenir as well.
Shocking sleeper hits include the steakhouse at Circus
Circus and Edge at Westgate. Downtown on Fremont, the best
spots are Andiamo, Vic & Anthony’s and Barry’s Prime. If
you’re able to travel off the beaten path, Echo & Rig in
Summerlin as well as Honeysalt are both top venues in the
valley. Harlo is fast becoming one of the best steakhouses in
Vegas and it’s where you’re most likely to find Raiders, Golden
Knights and resident celebrities.
Both Herbs & Rye and Cleaver are local’s favorites
because of their steak “happy hours” where menu favorites are
deeply discounted. The hours vary, but typically the happy
hour period runs both early in the evening and late at night.
You will absolutely need reservations at all of these
locations.

Affordable Dining Options

Twisted Sourdough Pizza is a great spot to get locally
owned delicious casual eats like giant mozzarella sticks,
sourdough pizza cones and loaded gourmet fries.
Ocean One Grill inside Planet Hollywood is the most
affordable lunch spot in Vegas with every entrée just $6.
Cocktails are 3 for $12. It’s not fine dining, but the food is
decent for the price.
Gen Korean BBQ inside Miracle Mile Shops at Planet
Hollywood is an all you can eat experience with premium
meats, sushi, sides and more for $35 per person. It’s fantastic
for the price point.

22
El Segundo Sol is relatively affordable Mexican food with
beautiful views of the strip from Fashion Show Mall across
from Wynn.
The Park between Park MGM and NYNY offers a selection
of upscale bar food venues and inexpensive burgers.
Mon Ami Gabi and Alexxa are both relatively inexpensive
and boast views of the Bellagio Fountains.

Best Desserts in Vegas

Looking for over-the-top milkshakes that feature half an
apple pie, globs of caramel, and enough sprinkles to cover a
stadium floor? That’s Black Tap at Venetian. They are known
for their jaw-dropping shakes and treats. The shakes are
stunning but run $20-$25 per dessert.
Harlo in Summerlin features a rotation of stunning,
delicious pieces of art that are worth making the drive for:
Spago Brunch has a fantastic chocolate soufflé with a
stunning view and a lemon yuzu confection that’s criminally
delicious. Their dessert menu rotates, but it’s guaranteed to
be phenomenal.
Pepper Club in the Arts District offers fantastic ube churros
and one of the most remarkable honey toast variations I’ve
ever had.
Many high-end supper clubs like Delilah, Superfrico or
Lakeside have designer desserts and cocktails that are worth
making a late reservation for. You get all the benefits of the
venue, view and entertainment without spending $200+ on a
meal.
The sticky toffee pudding at any Gordon Ramsay concept
is amazing.

23
The warm butter cake at Mastro’s is the best thing you will
ever eat.
Sugar Factory is eye-catching, but their food quality and
service often miss the mark.

Best Romantic Restaurants

You can’t go wrong with the views at Top of the World or
Eiffel Tower Steakhouse.
Nomad Library is dark and mysterious, surrounded by
books, leather, and wood. Its European-influenced menu is
fantastic, and the ambience is romantic.
Bellagio’s Prime is one of the most beautiful dining rooms
in Vegas. It features big, extravagant beauty with stunning
views of the fountains. The food is equally impressive. If you
can manage to score a rare table outside or on a balcony, it
may just be the most romantic in the city.
Mon Ami Gabi at Paris is wonderful and fairly reasonably
priced (by Vegas standards) - especially for classic French
cuisine.
Lakeside at Wynn has patio dining overlooking the
stunning “Lake of Dreams” and boasts delicious food without
being too over the top.
Mayfair Supper Club is sure to impress but you need to
make reservations 30 days or more in advance.
Best Brunches
My favorite brunch in Vegas is The Pepper Club. It’s two
miles off strip in the iconic Arts District, but it’s the only 7 day
a week affordable luxury brunch that offers bottomless
rainbow sparkly mimosas, chic modern vibes and delicious
food. Reservations strongly recommended.

24
La Neta Cocina in Summerlin is quite a drive from the strip
but offers a vibey, sexy Mexican fusion brunch on Sunday only
that’s worth visiting for.
On the strip consider Alexxa’s Kitchen for an affordable
choice with views of the Bellagio Fountains.

Unexpected or Lesser Known Gems

Twisted Sourdough Pizza in Henderson is off strip but
worth a trip. It’s a locally owned spot that’s known for their
massive fried cheese sticks, sourdough pizzas, pizza cones
and shawarma fries. They’re inexpensive, everything is made
from scratch in house and it’s utterly delicious.
Bad Owl Coffee Roasters (there are a few locations, one is
downtown) is a Harry Potter-themed coffee shop that’s pure
magic. The food and treats are exceptional, the “butterbeer”
inspired beverage is noteworthy and every single detail is fun.
Musashi Japanese Steakhouse sits just behind the strip
and offers a discount Teppanyaki menu some nights by
reservation. The food is cooked in front of you and if you’re
particularly adventurous, ask for the “dirty version” (it may or
may not involve some sex toys, but hey, it’s Vegas). This is
excellent food, and great entertainment. It’s where the locals
go when they get off work. This is some of the best hibachi
you will ever experience. Request chef/owner “Tiger” for the
ultimate experience.
La Neta Cocina in Summerlin is a stunning Mexican fusion
restaurant that has a beautiful lounge, stunning photo ops, and
even better food. They have a viral cocktail featuring
champagne and a raspberry sorbet rose. Their brunch is
spectacular.

25
Shokku Ramen in Chinatown is a 24-hour ramen spot with
phenomenal gyoza and fantastic ramen. This place is such a
cult classic that you’ll often wait for a table at 2 am on a
Tuesday. Even though it’ll be late, it’s still worthwhile.
French Crepes in Henderson offers true sweet and savory
European pancakes overflowing with fruits, sauces, and tons
of toppings. A genuine small business locally owned by the
sweetest couple; their iced coffees are topped with frozen
espresso bears.

Downtown & Fremont Food

The best steakhouse downtown is Barry’s Prime inside
Circa. A great inexpensive option inside Circa is Victory Burger
overlooking the sportsbook. 8 East is a solid choice for Asian
cuisine.
Dirt Dog for delicious street dogs.
Sorry Not Sorry for Ice Cream.
Therapy for cheap drinks and inventive food.
For large groups on a smaller budget, 7th & Carson can
accommodate your parties in their beautiful courtyard and
work with your budget to create something awesome. Call
“Liam” (the owner) to prearrange for parties of more than 6.
Skip the trip to Heart Attack Grill.
La Mona Rosa for downtown Mexican food.
The best pizza is at Pizza Rock or Evel Pie.

27
Self-Guided Foodie Experience
If you’re looking for a more casual and budget minded
foodie tour, Finger Licking Foodie Tours offers an inexpensive
but really cool self-guided format. The company arranges all
the restaurants, a tasting menu at each and a paired cocktail
(if you opt in for drinks) and you get all the info on where to go
and when on your mobile device. You walk past the line to the
best table in the house, dine with your party and then proceed
to the next venue when done. All tax and gratuity are included,
and tours start at $89 per person. They can accommodate
parties of 2 all the way up to parties of 20. Visit
www.fingerlickingfoodietours.com for more information.

The Most Desirable Restaurants & Hacks for Them

The hardest restaurants in the city to get into are usually
the newest or the venues that offer entertainment with the
meal. Think Mayfair Supper Club, Delilah & Superfrico. You
need to make reservations 30 days or more in advance to get
into these concepts. Sometimes calling the venue directly will
let you scoop up someone else’s cancellation.
The most difficult restaurant to score prime time dinner
reservations at is Hell’s Kitchen. But here’s the secret: All of
Gordon Ramsay’s venues order food from the same
purveyors. If you want to eat at Hell’s Kitchen for the famous
Beef Wellington or sticky toffee pudding, rest assured it’s
exactly the same at Gordon Ramsay Steak or The Pub. If
you’re just a super fan of the show but missed out on a prime
dinner spot, you can usually squeak into a lunch spot with just
a couple weeks of preplanning.
Can’t score a seat? If the venue you want is booked solid,
most offer bar seating on a first come first served basis. You

28
may miss out on some of the ambience, but if you’re going
specifically for the food, it’s a solid plan.

Tipping for the Best Views and Seats

A well placed $20 in the hands of a hostess will go a long
way towards making sure you’re seated on the patio, center
stage, overlooking the fountains, or away from the bathroom
and wait station. Just say “This is for you. If possible, we would
like to sit on the patio. I don’t mind waiting a little longer.
Whatever is easiest for you.” They will almost always
accommodate you or give you an explanation as to why they
can’t. Don’t feel awkward about tipping the hostess. They’re
hourly employees and appreciate anytime they are shown
gratitude or are given the opportunity to help a guest out.

DRINKING IN LAS VEGAS

Tips for Visitors on a Budget

T here are no “open container” laws in Las Vegas. There are

some minor limitations like not drinking outside a liquor
store, near a school, etc. But by and large, if you are a tourist
in tourist areas you will not run into issues. You can mix your
own cocktails in your hotel room and walk around all night with
them. Glass containers are prohibited, and though you will still
see them, it is advised that you do not utilize them. Many of
the area liquor stores will provide delivery with a nominal
charge or you can utilize ride-share to patronize one of the
many nearby warehouses style liquor stores. I recommend
Lee’s or Total Wine.
The best Happy Hour in Las Vegas is at The Pepper Club.
They offer drinks and food deals under $10 from 3-5 pm and
9 pm to close. A close runner up is Hank’s Fine Steaks and
Martinis at Green Valley Ranch for their daily 4-7 pm half price
martinis (average price $8).
If you prefer not to mix your own drinks, look for small
independently-owned options like Stage Door (behind Linq &
Flamingo) or Ellis Island (behind Bally’s) where dollar beer
options and cheap shots are always on special. Casino Royale
is the dive bar equivalent of a strip casino, but you can drink
cheap there! Many strip properties, like Margaritaville, offer
extraordinary happy hours during non-peak hours.

30
If You Gamble: Alcohol is Complimentary
You don’t have to play high limit to drink for free in the
casinos. Anywhere you’re wagering (slots, sports-book, pit,
poker) you will be frequented by cocktail servers. They will
take new orders every 15 to 30 minutes. These beverages are
complimentary, though you are expected to tip your server for
them.
If you sit at a poker bar or a bar with slots embedded in the
counter, the bartender will monitor your wagers and the
frequency of your bets and only serve you complimentary
beverages when you’ve met their threshold. If you’re
attempting to drink cheaply by only gambling the minimum, the
best play is to sit in a slot section and bet the minimum. The
cocktail servers will not care how much you’re wagering, so
long as you’re pleasant and tip.

Tips for Maximizing the “Free” Cocktail:

 Start off right and tip your server $5-$20 up front and
say, “Please check on me often.” They will put
themselves in front of you every ten minutes or so and
bend over backwards to prioritize your care.
 Order the maximum 2 beverages at a time. My favorite
combo is a cocktail and a shot but you can also order a
drink and a bottled water or a beer and a shot each
round. Whatever you like.
 Industry standard is to tip $1 per beverage received. If
you can do more than that ($2 to $5 per), you will
receive better service and better drinks.
 If you do not specify the brand of liquor, you WILL
receive well. Even budget properties have some
astonishingly good labels available for free. Ask for

31
Grey Goose or Johnny Walker or whatever premium
preference you have and what similar complimentary
brands they offer.
 You don’t have to drink alcohol. You may order hot
teas, fancy coffees, fresh pressed juices, sodas, energy
drinks, Perrier, bottled water, frozen daiquiris (virgin or
not) and sometimes rare treats like iced coffees or
smoothies. Just ASK. Luxury casinos will offer more
luxury offerings. A few luxury casinos even offer fresh
pressed watermelon juice or pomegranate juice.

Purchasing Cocktails
If you have no interest in making your own beverages,
budget shopping, or gambling to earn free drinks, you will have
many venues from which to purchase beverages outright.
There are multiple daiquiri bars on the strip that offer
discounted refills or even free refills all night long, but be
warned these drinks contain a lot of fillers and may be lacking
in “bang for your buck”. No matter how big the container, they
aren’t going to put enough alcohol in a single drink to hurt
someone.
For a classier drink experience, visit one of the coveted
speakeasies or speciality cocktail lounges. Expect to pay $18-
$25 on average for a craft cocktail in Vegas. Almost all popular
steakhouses host a happy hour where you can purchase small
plates and handcrafted drinks without the expectation of a full
meal.

32
ENTERTAINMENT IN LAS VEGAS

Show Recommendations

T here is a hidden magic show called The Magician’s Study

that rotates between speakeasies on the strip. I personally
don’t like magic shows, but I absolutely LOVED this one! Just
note, it is not appropriate for children. It’s absolutely the best
show you will ever see. Getting into it can be a bit tricky. You
have to indicate interest and then, if selected, will be allowed
to purchase tickets. I have figured out a work around until they
change the code word. Use the code “MERLIN” to buy tickets.
Go for VIP seating if it’s available when you’re there. It’s worth
every penny. I can’t say enough great things about this show.
It’s small, intimate and will blow your mind.
The best Cirque right now is the all new Mad Apple. It’s
adult, fun, fast paced and wholly entertaining.
Absinthe at Caesar’s Palace is widely regarded as the best
big show in Las Vegas. It’s a dark, twisted circus with variety
acts and raunchy adult humor. It isn’t for the faint of heart or
easily offended.
If you’re looking for comedy, it’s Carrot Top. I realize this
may be a surprising answer, but he’s damn entertaining and
works hard to produce one of the best reviewed shows in
Vegas. If you want magic, Penn and Teller are smart, funny,
and a little edgy while David Copperfield is classic, nostalgic
and impressive. Cris Angel is bad. Really, really bad. If the
tickets are gifted to you, give them right back.

33
For kids, the best shows are Blue Man Group and
Tournament of Kings (the OG Medieval Times dinner show).
V the Ultimate Variety show is kid-friendly, reasonably priced,
and enjoyable for adults as well. Mac King does a great kid’s
magic show.
The most affordable show that’s still good is the “tickets
starting at $40” HYPROV. It’s a hypnosis improvisational
comedy show that’s worth checking out if you want to see
something on a budget.
Odd or atypical shows like Potted Potter or Zombie
Burlesque are sleeper hits that are perfect for those who enjoy
less mainstream productions.
“O” and “Love” are stunning pieces of art with world class
production teams. If you want classy and want to be blown
away, these are your picks.
Opium is weird, intimate, offensive, and gross - all at once.
It’s one of my favorites, but you need to be into raunchy humor
and abstract performance art with layers of nuance.

Clubs & Adult Entertainment Hacks

MEN: KNOW YOUR VALUE. If you’re a male or traveling
with a group of men, the adult entertainment clubs and
brothels want your business. So much so that they offer cab
drivers and ride share a cash bounty for each tourist they
deliver to their establishments. Use this knowledge to leverage
the best value for you and your group. Call the club or venue
you’d like to patronize and ask them if they will send a limo to
pick you up or waive the cost of admission. Ask what sort of
packages they have available for visiting tourists or bachelor
parties. Make these arrangements in advance so you’re not
scrambling at the last minute. Don’t hesitate to negotiate. Ask

34
to speak to the venue’s promotion manager. They all have one
and that person is empowered to make a deal with you.

Strip Club Quick Notes:

 Sapphire is the most “couple friendly” club.
 Little Darlings is full-nude but because of archaic laws,
this means they do not serve alcohol.
 Get money for tipping from the casino cashier where
you’re staying. Using an ATM or getting change at an
adult venue will result in huge fees being added.
 Most clubs will pick you up but will not offer to take you
back. You can negotiate that as part of your deal if you
have a group of men.

SWINGERS/VOYEURS: There are multiple “lifestyle”

clubs that cater to those who wish to participate in group
activities, watch, or even find couples to engage with. At this
time, the “Green Door” is the only one that welcomes single
males.
Solo women can always leverage free admission and/or
transportation to these venues. Couples are often offered
promotions and incentives to come try things out. Single men,
if admitted at all, will pay premium prices. Call in advance to
find out policies with regard to solo males.
Green Door is the most famous swinger club, but it skews
older and isn’t in the best part of town. Look at 5150 for the
under 40 crowd. The dating apps in Vegas are an excellent
mechanism for “unicorn hunting,” but understand that it may
be transactional. Hiring a professional is often the easiest way
to have needs met without much risk of being robbed or
exploited. Utilize the safe in your hotel room before inviting any

35
new friends over. There is a moderate crime wave of “trick
rolling” here where eager would-be dates will approach what
they perceive to be soft targets and drug their drinks. Be aware
of your surroundings and possessions.

Nightclubs, Dayclubs and Promoters

The easiest, free was to get into clubs, pool parties and
day-clubs is by downloading the free “Discotech” app and put
yourself on the guest list for any club in Vegas. You can do
anything through the app a promoter can do. It costs
NOTHING, you can also score discounts on tickets, tables,
bottle service and anywhere a promoter can get you in – the
app can get you in. The app doesn’t care what gender you are
or what you look like.
If you’re a woman or traveling in a predominantly female
group, you can leverage this to get free admission into just
about any night club and even the more desirable beach clubs.
These clubs actively work on keeping the male to female ratio
favorable, and will actively pursue bachelorette parties, girl's
nights and solo female guests for free admission and
additional perks. You can reach out to professional promoters
or the clubs directly to see what they’re offering or simply walk
down the strip all dressed up. You will be approached by street
promoters who want to lure you in. Remember, no sandals or
tank tops. The best clubs have dress codes.
You will see social media posts from “promoters” offering
you free VIP treatment at top clubs. There are two types of
promoters in Vegas. First, there are those who charge a fee to
arrange a true VIP experience and will expect you to have an
entertainment budget. I often recommend “Let Loose Vegas”
and similar companies. They will organize transportation, VIP
entrances and experiences, and curate every detail of your

36
evening. These companies are true luxury experiences. The
other type of “promoters'' are usually young independent
contractors who are used to keep clubs full on slower nights
or balance the male to female ratios. They submit guest lists
to the venues and the venues will allow people in from that list
as needed to keep the club busy. Your mileage may vary with
these “services”. The promoter is paid a bounty for each
female guest they bring in, so it’s free for the would-be club
goer. But know that you may also have to wait hours for
admission or not be allowed in at all if your party doesn’t fit
their business needs.
A really affordable way to score a VIP experience with
some of the main nightclubs is to book a club crawl or club
tour. Rockstar Club Crawl or Sin City are both excellent
options. For one price you will get transportation on a party
bus, front of the line passes to two or three clubs, and, in some
cases, cocktails. The tours work hard to make the experience
extra entertaining and keep the male to female ratios
balanced, so you have the added bonus of showing up to the
club in a group. You may also leave the tour and stay
somewhere if you’re enjoying yourself and not ready to leave.

37
POOLS IN LAS VEGAS

Most properties require you to be a guest of the hotel to

receive access to the pool. During peak season, most strip
hotels will allow you to book a cabana or daybed even if you’re
not staying on property. Cabanas start around $300 and go as
high as $2000 in peak season. Discounts aren’t widely
available on pool accommodations during season, but these
are charges you can bill to your room and potentially have
waived by a gaming host if you’re swimming where you’re
gambling.
One work around for pool access is to book a discounted
hotel room through a third-party site where you would like to
swim. You don’t necessarily have to stay on property, but the
room key will give you and your group pool access. If you can
book for less than the cost of a daybed, it will get you in and
save you a few dollars. For example, Stadium Swim at Circa
charges $20-$40 per person general admission. Guests at
The D get access to Stadium Swim, and you can sometimes
find rooms here for less than $60 a night. If you have a group
of 4-6 people, booking a room at The D would save you money
on pool admission with the added bonus of giving you a
downtown room to store belongings and get cleaned up after
swimming.
Two pools you can visit by paying general admission are
Stadium Swim downtown at Circa and English Hotel in the Arts
District.
Pool season is considered to run March through October
with most pools opening during March and April. Some pools

38
permit general admission, for a fee, but the list of which ones
do changes from season to season. Stadium Swim at Circa
consistently permits non-guests to pay a cover charge and
swim.

Heated Pools in Winter

 Aria (closed 1 month for maintenance)
 Bellagio
 Cosmopolitan
 Luxor (open on weekends only)
 Mandalay Bay
 MGM Grand
 Venetian
 Palazzo
 Vdara (closed 1 month for maintenance)
 Wynn
 Encore
 Park MGM
 Sahara
 Resorts World
 Trump International

These hotels in Downtown Las Vegas have heated pools

open year-round:
 Plaza Hotel & Casino
 Circa Las Vegas

Reciprocal Pool Policy

39
Caesar’s/El Dorado properties are pretty open with
reciprocating pool use amongst their hotel guests with the
exception of Caesar’s Palace. Guests at Bally’s or Linq are
welcome at Flamingo for example. This seems consistent
through their budget and mid-range properties.
MGM does not extend the same courtesy. You are only
permitted access to the pool where you are a registered guest.
On Fremont, guests at The D and Golden Gate receive
reciprocal pool use at sister property Circa’s Stadium Swim.
This is particularly valuable, as rooms at The D can be quite a
bargain and a room key will get your reasonably-sized party
into Stadium Swim without paying a cover charge.

Topless Pools
Adult only, top-optional pools are beginning to fade into
obscurity in Las Vegas as they lose popular. The best in town
is at Sapphire’s Gentleman’s Club. It’s incredibly couple
friendly too.

40
STARFISH’S RECOMMENDATIONS

M Y personal recommendations. These are OPINIONS

and your experience may vary. The snark is for comedic
value, and I would really like to not be sued. So take any
negative comments with a grain of salt!
I get asked ALL the time where I recommend people
should eat, visit, stay, or what they should see in Vegas. I
always have a hard time with these questions, because taste
is individual and I never want to steer someone wrong. In this
section, I am going to give my recommendation and WHY for
each of the topics. I truly hope this will provide you some value
during your visit.

GO CITY PASS: Inexpensive Way to See Everything

If you know you’re going to want to do a lot of attractions
and want to score some deals, look up a “GoCity all-inclusive
pass”. For around $100 for a two day pass, you get a long list
of attractions to visit on your own schedule and enjoy at your
pace.
The list changes from time to time, but if you really dedicate
some time to knocking out attractions, you can save a fortune.
I recommend trying activities that you wouldn’t typically check
out. You’ll be pleasantly surprised. To save even more money,
refer other people in your party to purchase the pass and you’ll
each save a few bucks. If you do a three-day or longer pass
you may include one premium activity which includes
experiences like a helicopter ride, a Grand Canyon tour and
more. It’s worth checking out.

41
Best Family Friendly Property?
I have two answers at two different price points. Mandalay
Bay has the best family friend pool complex with 11 acres of
beach, wave pool, lazy river etc. It’s also a quick, free tram ride
to Luxor and Excalibur, both of which have fun things for kids
to do (and the tram itself is fun!). Rooms here run from $90-
$200+ depending on the day/month. For a lower price point,
Excalibur. The bottom floor (“Fun Dungeon”) is full of kid
friendly fun, arcade and midway games, laser tag, small rides
and more. The property has been fully renovated in the last
five years to give it a clean and crisp feel.
Avoid Circus Circus like the plague. Matter of fact, if you’re
going to contract the plague, it might be here. Not a fan.
Adventuredome, the kid-friendly indoor theme park at Circus
Circus is absolutely worth a visit - especially during the
Halloween season. You don’t need to be a hotel guest to visit.

Best Hotel For Each Purpose

If money is no object you can’t go wrong with Aria Sky
Suites, Encore Tower Suites, or anything at Delano (boutique
hotel inside Mandalay Bay). For a super fun and new
experience, consider Circa on Fremont Street. No one under
21 can even walk in the door. The most desirable hotel room
on the strip is currently the fountain view wrap around terrace
suite at Cosmo. With a rare balcony overlooking the Bellagio
Fountains and Japanese soaking tubs, these are highly
coveted rooms and an ideal choice for a romantic getaway or
excessive self-indulgence.
Venetian is an all-suite family friendly hotel that frequently
runs unbelievable deals on third party sites to keep their
occupancy levels high. It isn’t uncommon to find a room at

42
Palazzo or Venetian for less than $150 a night with all taxes
and fees included. It is normally advised to book directly so
you may receive upgrades or have fees waived, but there are
very few upgrades available at Venetian (higher floor/better
views). If a tremendous value is discovered booking third
party, this is usually an exception to the rule.
The most romantic hotel room in Vegas is the
Cosmopolitan fountain view terrace suite or wraparound. It’s
not inexpensive, but it’s well worth the investment.
Classics like Bellagio and NOBU inside Caesar’s Palace
are also excellent choices. Venetian and Palazzo never
disappoint and often offer specials during the off season for
romantic getaways, but you will also see families all over this
property.
NoMad inside Park MGM is a rare and unexpected
boutique gem. European themed with soaking tubs and artistic
décor this smoke-free property offers a luxury feel at mid range
price points.
At a budget or slightly lower price point, Sahara is one of
the better values. This property was given an expensive face
lift recently and its pure luxury without all the cost. For
something more center strip, Paris is a win for romance in the
mid-range of cost.
Linq hotel offers a fantastic center strip value for people
who don’t plan to spend much time in their room. It provides
close access to the promenade and walking distance to most
other major attractions. The rooms are small and basic, but
clean.
Resorts World is really coming into its own and has
adjusted their room rates to be more reasonable. They have

43
one of the best spas in Vegas, tons of amazing food options,
and are adding new amenities all the time. This used to be a
skip but is now a top recommendation for luxury travelers.
The English Hotel in the Arts District is a sexy, modern
boutique adults only spot that’s perfect for the more discerning
guest. It’s a Marriott Tribute Portfolio hotel and though it skews
more expensive, it’s a very “not your typical Vegas” spot.

What is your favorite hotel and why, Starfish?

For a budget property, it’s always The Orleans. I love the
Louisiana theme, the delicious gumbo at Big Al’s Oyster Bar,
the oversized hotel rooms, and incredibly affordable room
service pricing. I like the quiet comfort of their giant sparkling
pool, the on-site movie theater, and the arcade for kids. Live
music at Bailiwick and an excellent steak at Alder & Birch are
both reasons why I frequently pop in to play free play or take
out of town guests for a meal. They comp generously and
often and parking is uncomplicated, well lit, and free.
For a luxury property, no one holds a candle to Red Rock.
Even the most basic room includes a soaking tub and stunning
views. The restaurants on property are all top notch. They
comp generously and often and offer gamblers lots of
amenities like daybeds and cabanas or private VIP boxes in
the movie theater. The year-round pool is the most family
friendly in the city and it becomes a local haven in the summer.
My favorite on-strip budget resort is Park MGM. It’s the only
non-smoking casino resort and they have great food options
and are walkable to center strip.
My favorite on-strip luxury resort is Cosmopolitan. You can
spend your entire vacation here and get a full Vegas

44
experience. Lots of cool speakeasies, great food,
stunning rooms, and the best views in the city.

third. You will find all the Armani, Hermès, Louis Vuitton,
Kenzo, Prada and more there. The Shops at Wynn offer
several European designers unavailable anywhere else in the
states.
For mid-range brand names both North and South Outlets
are fantastic. Deep discounts on Michael Kors, Kate Spade,
Coach, Levi, Fossil, Nike, Sketchers and so much more can

trip home.

outdoor shopping center with great restaurants and bars,
outdoor entertainment, and seasonal décor. You can make a
whole afternoon at Town Square vibing with locals, shopping,

Bachelor Party Recommendations that are NOT Adult

Themed
Golf at Wynn. It’s pricey but an absolute once in a lifetime
experience. Expect to pay between $300 and $500 per person
depending on day/time, but this includes clubs, cart, caddie
and everything but gratuity.
Topgolf behind MGM is state of the art, super fun, and
offers the best bites and brews too. Enjoy hitting microchipped

46
golf balls at dart board like targets on an expansive outfield.
There is even a totally free pool party at The Hideaway.
Head to the secret speakeasy beneath The Mob Museum
and sample whiskey flights or enjoy a moonshine tasting. They
even boast private VIP room that may be reserved for bachelor
parties where 1920’s inspired appetizers will be served by
cigarette girls alongside specially curated whiskey cocktails.
The cigar bar, Monte Cristo, at Caesar’s Palace is one of
the best in the city and can accommodate groups and solo
visitors.
Book the Ultimate Steakhouse Tour with Lip Smacking
Foodie Tours for a spectacular guys night. You’ll enjoy three
venues dining like kings on the best steak, imported
delicacies, seafood and more. They offer luxury transportation
between steakhouses and a VIP host who arranges the most
exclusive tables. $999 per person includes all tax and
gratuities. www.Lipsmackingfoodietours.com for more
information.

Fun Spots to Watch the Game or Fight

Nine Fine Irishmen inside NYNY is a fantastic Irish pub with
indoor and outdoor seating that becomes a full-fledged party
with the right crowd. Also at NYNY, Tom’s Urban shows all the
games and features upscale bar food that's shockingly
delicious.
Beer Park in Paris and Virgil’s BBQ in the Linq Promenade
both boast full NFL and VGK lineups and do not require a food
and beverage minimum spend if you want to stop and watch
the game. You can enjoy a stress-free beer or share a few
appetizers and enjoy indoor or outdoor seating at either.

47
Resorts World boasts a sports book lounge with giant TVs
for watching the games, ample seating and great food options.
There is no charge to take a seat and watch the game.
Circa’s Stadium Swim offers year round heated pools in a
party deck atmosphere showing all the games on massive
LED screens. You do not need to be a hotel guest to enjoy as
they offer general admission, but guests of both Circa and The
D get in free.

Karaoke
If you’re looking for a dive bar feel, you can’t go wrong with
Ellis Island Karaoke, behind Bally’s. It’s where all the locals go
and it’s amazing. They brew their own root beer in house too
and have fantastic late night eats for cheap.
On Fremont street, go to the second floor bar “Cat’s Meow”
for an amazing view of Fremont street. They have the
cheapest VIP experiences and bottle service in town too.
On the strip, Kamu Karaoke inside Venetian Resort offers
private suites at incredibly low rates, delicious food and a fun
affordable space for your all ages parties.

Must-Do Tourist Attractions

Zip line down Fremont Street: for around $60 per person
you can enjoy one of the most iconic zip line experiences in
the world. You’ll want to make reservations a couple weeks in
advance, as the prime spots fill up quickly.
Take a Maverick Helicopter tour of the Strip at night.
Book a culinary tour through Lip Smacking Foodie Tours
and experience 3 or 4 of the most popular restaurants in
Vegas with a VIP host. Try world famous dishes and sit in
iconic dining rooms.

48
See The Magician’s Study.
Ride a Gondola through the canals of Venetian. The ride
lasts less than 15 minutes and runs $34 per person on
weekdays and $39 on Friday and Saturday.
The roller coaster at NYNY is a reasonable $19 per person
and takes you zipping through and around the Vegas strip
casino.
The all-new Flyover Las Vegas is located near Hard Rock
Café across from Park MGM on the strip. This theme park-
caliber experience is similar to rides at Universal Studios or
Disneyland. It’s both age and size inclusive, is a thrill ride
without being scary and is a stunning, immersive flight
simulator.
For walk through immersive art experiences consider
Fantasy Lab or the museum of optical illusions, Paradox.

What about FREE attractions I have to see while there?

You have to walk through Bellagio Conservatory. Aside
from being a stunning indoor botanical art exhibit that is
changed seasonally, this location features hundreds of
thousands of living plants and flowers and is THE best photo
op on the strip.
Downtown, check out the Fremont Street experience - the
overhead multi-million dollar immersive sound and light show.
Then, walk over to Container Park and check out larger than
life art, fantastic casual dining, and occasional outdoor
entertainment.
Don’t forget the Bellagio Fountains or the Mirage Volcano.
Sure we’ve all seen it online before but there is nothing quite

49
like the energy of the crowd watching the fountains come alive
and dance to Frank Sinatra on a warm Vegas night.
Take a peek at the shark pool at Golden Nugget and see
swimmers co-mingle with giant sharks as the aquarium and
pool merge to surround a giant slide.
The street performers on Fremont street are a mixed bag
of talented artists. You can spend a few hours walking around
and soaking it all up for free, though you are encouraged to tip
if you take photos with anyone.
The Atlantis Show inside Caesar’s Forum has returned
with all the kitschy, campy nostalgia it’s always delivered.
Skip the rain show at Miracle Mile Shops. It’s not worth
your time and will leave you absolutely perplexed and
underwhelmed.

Non-Casino Activities

The best method to see the Hoover Dam or Grand

Canyon is with Comedy on Deck Tours. Their experiences
are fun, affordable, include round trip transportation to and
from your resort, include meals and are highly entertaining.
They offer the most cost effective Grand Canyon day trip
experience too.
Red Rock National Park is full of stunning canyons and
gorgeous hikes. About 20 minutes from the strip, you can
spend all day getting lost in this beautiful and vibrant natural
landscape. Similarly, Mt Charleston offers snow-kissed cabins
in the woods high above Las Vegas in the mountains.
Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam is a great place to rent a
pontoon and get out on the water or throw up a tent and get in
touch with wilderness.

50
If you want to stay closer to the strip, consider The Mob
Museum for an amazing history lesson in organized crime.
Don’t forget to visit the secret speakeasy in the basement. The
Neon Museum is also a solid choice where you can see all the
old bones of Vegas' past and get up close and personal with
relics that date back to the settling of this desert city. I have
received some negative feedback about the Neon Museum
being underwhelming during the day and exceptionally hot in
the summer, so plan accordingly.
Try Adrenaline ATV tours for a wild off roading adventure.
For a zombie shooting experience, check out Top Shop.
Dream Racing LV is your spot for driving a race car or luxury
car at tip speeds and Maverick Helicopter is your one stop
shop for flying over the strip or Red Rock Canyon.
Topgolf behind MGM is the perfect balance of golf and a
wild party. This venue is perfect for groups, bachelor parties
and couples. They also feature a free 18+ pool party in
season. This high end driving range features gaming,
cocktails, food and beautiful waitstaff in a club like
environment.

51
TRANSPORTATION & MOBILITY IN
LAS VEGAS

Transportation in Las Vegas

U ber and Lyft remain the most prevalent transportation

option to and from the airport and around town. Previous
issues getting rides seemed to have resolved themselves.
Cabs are also readily available.
Car rentals are no longer as scarce as they once were but
have not yet returned to pre-pandemic prices.
Arranging a limo service or luxury car is often more
affordable and convenient than people anticipate. If you’re
able to plan ahead, the best service at the best rates can be
obtained by emailing [email protected].
This is a major transportation company I’ve partnered with to
provide unpublished rates specifically for my followers.
They’re worth getting an email quote from. If you don’t love
their rates, check Bell Limousine. Their fleet is slightly dated,
but they are usually the cheapest. If you need last minute
arrangements, Earth Limo is slightly pricier but can usually
accommodate same-day arrangements.
The monorail is once again operational and inexpensive as
always. There are trams and shuttles that go between several
properties and, when combined with travel on the monorail, it’s
possible to get most places for just a few dollars. Equally
inexpensive is “The Deuce” a 24 hour air conditioned city bus
with WIFI that runs from Fremont to the strip and outlets and
back.

52
Mobility and Accessibility
Vegas is incredibly accessible. 702Scooters and Sin City
Scooters are both awesome motorized scooter rental
companies that will deliver a mobility device to your hotel and
pick it up when you’re done.

53
VEGAS OVER 35

I get asked all the time “where can I go listen to live music
and dance without being surrounded by 21 year olds?”. The
two best clubs for people north of 35 are Barbershop inside
Cosmopolitan and On The Record at Park MGM. Downtown,
Cats Meow is the best mixed age crowd.
For pool parties and day-clubs, Cosmopolitan and Aria
both have a reasonable mix of ages. General admission pools
that have low key party vibes suitable for the 35+ crowd
include Stadium Swim at Circa and English Hotel in the Arts
District.
If you want to get into a club using guest list but are
concerned a promoter won’t work with you because you’re not
25, the free Discotech App will let you put your name on any
guest list and will not discriminate or care how old you are.
Kalologie Med Spa inside Aria does the best Botox and IV
hydration in town and any service includes a day pass to the
Aria spa, making their services even more of a value.
The best brunch or dinner with on trend chic vibes , good
food and excellent adult beverages is Pepper Club. It’s young
and fun enough to be one of the more popular “off the beaten
path” hot spots but sophisticated enough to be for the
grownups.

54
GRAND CANYON/HOOVER DAM
TOURS

T here are only three ways to see the Grand Canyon or

Hoover Dam while visiting Vegas.
1. You can book a helicopter tour with Maverick
Helicopter. This is the fastest and most luxurious. It’s
also the most expensive.
2. You can rent a car and drive to either. There is a fee
associated with touring the Hoover Dam and entering
the Grand Canyon and this should be factored into your
number crunching. Either is a half day or more
experience.
3. You can book a professional bus tour. I recommend
Comedy On Deck. Not only are their buses luxury
buses, but their incredibly low price points include
meals and a professional guide. They will pick you up
from your resort hotel and return you at the conclusion.

For any and all helicopter or aviation tourism, I recommend

Maverick. They have the best safety record and the highest
standards for pilots and equipment. While they are not the
least expensive, they are the best. Their best tour in terms of
“Bang for Your Buck” is their “Neon and Nature” tour.

55
SPA EXPERIENCES IN LAS VEGAS

A t most Las Vegas spas you must book a “service” in order

to utilize the facilities all day. A service would include a
massage, facial, and/or salon appointment. When you book a
service you are given access to the spa before, during, and
after your service for the duration of the day.
You may visit the spa at the hotel you’re visiting without
booking a service. Hotel guests may purchase facilities pass
and enjoy the amenities all day.
A few spas that sell facility passes to non-hotel guests
allowing them to visit the spa without a booked service include
Wynn/Encore, Awana at Resorts World, Green Valley Ranch,
and JW Marriot’s Rampart.
Bellagio Spa offers the most luxurious couples packages.
Awana offers the most co-ed space, size and amenities.
Green Valley Ranch has an indoor and outdoor option with
co-ed pools and cabanas. They will curate spa day packages
for your bachelorette parties and girl’s weekends.
JW Marriot is extremely inexpensive and offers large co-ed
areas for couples.

56
GETTING MARRIED IN LAS VEGAS

I have toured ALL of the chapels in Las Vegas so that I could

make the most informed decision when recommending a
place for your wedding, elopement or vow renewal. I am super
happy to announce that I have partnered with Bliss Wedding
Chapel (blisschapel.com) and have agreed to promote them
in exchange for a discount being passed to my clients and
followers. Anyone who books with Bliss and says they “saw it
on social media” will receive 15% off any package PLUS get
their bouquet upgraded to the next level at no charge.
I picked Bliss because they have a gorgeous, classic, clean
chapel that photographs beautifully. They also offer an
outdoor garden wedding space. They offer modern, luxury
transportation including a Rolls Royce package. They will
allow you to bring up to 50 guests at no additional charge,
they’ll let you take photos with your own devices and even live
stream the service if you wish. They employ the best Elvis
impersonator in Vegas who will perform your service or
serenade you if you wish. Bliss is the perfect hybrid between
a gorgeous wedding back home and Vegas.
Their rates begin at $329 for everything which is incredibly
inclusive.
Most importantly, I trust Bliss to make your special day
everything you need it to be.

57
KIDS IN LAS VEGAS

The Best Family Resort

T he best pools for kids are Mandalay Bay, MGM Grand and
Excalibur. For luxury family stays, Mandalay or Delano are
the best choices. Mid-range, look at MGM Grand. The best
budget option for kids is Excalibur. Again, avoid Circus Circus.
Another luxury option, Resorts World, has a great kids pool
and recreation area. The resort itself isn’t super kid friendly,
but it’s a beautiful property and super clean.

Great Entertainment Options for Kids

All Minus5 Ice Attractions permit kids until 9 pm. The
venues are full of games, are really magical and unique. Each
Minus5 location has an adjacent daiquiri bar that offers all their
flavors in non-alcoholic drinks suitable for kids. You’ll find the
ice attractions and daiquiri bars at Mandalay Bay Shoppes,
Linq Promenade and Venetian Grand Canal Shops.
Shark Reef aquarium at Mandalay is an excellent choice
for kids of all ages. It’s an impressive walkthrough with a giant
predator focused exhibit at the end that everyone should see
once.
For older kids and teens, Bodies at Luxor is creepy, cool,
and educational. Titanic is impressive and heartbreaking, and
probably best-suited to a teen familiar with the history of the
ill-fated ship.
Blue Man Group is the most age appropriate show for older
kids and teens. It's contemporary, exciting and engaging. For

58
kids who can stay seated and focus, David Copperfield is
mesmerizing. V the Ultimate Variety show is all around family
friendly and reasonably priced around $55 per ticket.
Both Hershey’s World and M&M World are cool and worth
a visit. The free 3D movie at M&M world is great for toddlers
and teens. The s’mores station at Hershey’s World is a must-
try.
The Discovery Museum in Downtown Las Vegas is one of
the best children’s museums in the world. Featured by many
famous content creators (think Blippi), it’s a perfect daytime
activity for kids aged 3-13.
I mentioned this above, but Vegas is perfect for kids too. If
you know you’re going to want to do a lot of attractions and
want to score some deals, look up a “GoCity all-inclusive
pass”. For around $100 for a two day pass you may partake
from a long list of area attractions. The list changes from time
to time but if you really dedicate some time to knocking out
attractions, you can save a fortune. I recommend trying
activities that you wouldn’t typically check out. You will be
pleasantly surprised. To save even more money, refer other
people in your party to purchase the pass and you’ll each save
a few bucks. If you do a three day or longer pass you may
include one premium activity which includes experiences like
a helicopter ride, a Grand Canyon tour and more. It’s worth
checking out. Every activity is not kid-friendly, but most are
and you’ll more than get your money’s worth.
For super small kids, 10 and under specifically but more
geared towards toddler and preschool age, check out
Kangamoo indoor play place near the airport. Experience all
day indoor play for around $15 per child. Parents are free and
can enjoy the coffee lounge, complimentary massage chairs,

59
and WiFi. This venue is kept clean, safe and is an absolute
hidden gem.
Area 15 is a destination in and of itself. See the section
titled “Area 15” for more information.
Dig This is a unique playground where kids and adults can
operate heavy equipment like bulldozers and excavators.
Dream Racing is a fantasy car experience where kids and
adults can ride in or drive imports and exotic racing cars on an
enclosed track.
Paradox Museum of Optical Illusions is a mind bending
walk through suitable for all ages. Fantasy Lab is an interactive
immersive art experience suitable for 8 years and older.
Silverton Casino offers a year round Mermaid School on
select dates where children and teens who are strong
swimmers can swim in a giant casino aquarium alongside
mermaid instructors.

Is Area 15 really worth the hype?

Yes. This is worth a whole day by itself. This is a fantastic
family activity, date activity, or even just a fun excuse to
cosplay and walk around. Area 15 is a giant black warehouse
full of psychedelic art installations, virtual reality, interactive
activities, unique food, and spectacular visuals. It’s like “a rave
at Burning Man constructed by aliens” and is suitable for
guests of all ages. General admission is free and the activities
inside are a la carte.
I highly recommend Omega Mart, which is an interactive
walk through that will take you into another dimension. You
can easily expect to spend 2-3 hours exploring inside Omega

60
Mart. Make sure you find the hidden bar “Datamosh” and enjoy
Instagram worthy cocktails from expert mixologists.
Lost Spirits distillery tour is a tremendous value for the
price. You get to engage with and enjoy a multi-room ongoing
show experience while sampling and sipping house made
rum. When this experience first debuted it was a disappointing
mess. It has since evolved into something you should
absolutely see.
The zip line here is one you should skip. It isn’t terribly
exciting and constantly has issues with traffic jams and leaving
people to be rescued.
After 10 pm this place is 21+ only and it’s perfect for a
surreal late-night vibe. The Oddwood bar located under the
psychedelic fairy tree is worth a stop for a late-night cocktail in
a venue unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

61
LGBTQ+ IN LAS VEGAS

O ne of the things I love most about this city is how much

we embrace EVERYONE. Vegas is consistently ranked
as one of the most LGBTQ+ friendly cities in the country, but
it doesn’t end there. You can truly be yourself here and let your
freak flag fly loud and proud. You will be welcomed regardless
of sexual preference, gender identity, fashion choices, and
even the flavor of kink you prefer – we almost certainly have a
venue that specifically caters to your taste.
Be sure to check out The Garage, a super popular, themed
gay bar that’s a little off-strip but worth the Uber ride. The
crowd is sexy, rowdy, and doesn’t disappoint. Charlie’s Las
Vegas if your favorite flavor is “country” and join them for line
dancing lessons pre-prime time to learn something fun and
then apply it on the dance floor.
Billed as “a gay ultra club”, Piranha features all the chest
thumping beats of any ultra trendy club on the strip but with
guests in drag, spandex and sequins to boot. This club can be
a little hit or miss on service, but with super late-night hours, it
can be a great place to go look at the beautiful people.
On Sundays, don’t miss TEMPTATION Pool Parties at
Luxor. This is the best gay pool party of the season. Cabana
reservations are pricey, but totally worth it. Take a group and
split the cost. This event runs from 1 pm to 7 pm each week
and draws crowds from coastal California and tourists
internationally.
Located in the Art District downtown, The Garden hosts an
impressive gay brunch on Saturday and Sunday starting at

62
noon with drag entertainers and bottomless cocktails. Did I
mention the cocktails are bottomless?
The Phoenix is a great lesbian bar just off strip that boasts
free burlesque and themed party nights as well as shockingly-
tasty bar food.
Vegas is proud to support the pride community and for
more information on events, celebrations, parades and even
to connect with other visitors, check out lasvegaspride.org.
While almost all venues here are super gay friendly, the
“gay district” in Vegas near UNLV - affectionately called the
“Fruit Loop” - is a collection of LGBTQ+ businesses, clubs, and
establishments.

63
BUDGET TIPS FOR LAS VEGAS

Any major budget tips? How can I do all this cheap?

G roupon is incredibly popular in Vegas. I personally am not

a fan of the program because only 40-50% of the
Groupon price goes to the merchant. But what I WILL do is call
the merchant and say “Hey, I see your Groupon. Would you
honor this price if I just come in and pay you directly?”. I’ve
never been told no.
In the lobby of many of the budget friendly casinos, tucked
in the corner, you’ll often find a magazine rack with local
publications and coupon books. The deals you will find in
these books are awesome! Sure, you’re not going to find a
two-for-one on the hottest show in town, but if you’re open to
trying smaller venues or off the beaten path experiences, you
will find all sorts of gems. Look here for those $5 steak and
egg deals or 99-cent shrimp cocktails.
Before your visit, download popular slot apps like “My
Vegas” and “Stardust”. Play your daily free-play and earn
loyalty points that can be redeemed for discounts and freebies
once you visit.
If you’re here for several days or more, consider joining a
site like House Seats for a nominal fee during the trial period.
You will be able to claim empty seats at the show for free
through the program, two tickets at a time. Though you’re
unlikely to find major headliners, there are always 20+ shows
available each day and sometimes unexpected gems pop up.
There are always 10-20 shows per day available on House

64
Seats, making it a value if you’re open to more indie style
shows.
Look online to book experiences in advance. Sometimes
this reduces ticket prices by a few dollars.
In demand activities and shows have no need to run sales.
Unfortunately with tourism at all time highs, it’s very difficult to
find actual discounts. You may occasionally find a few dollars
off through major affiliates like Vegas.com.

Choose Your Dates Carefully

By visiting during the off season you can obviously save a
lot of money. But even during peak season, skipping Saturday
may cut your costs in half. The average price of a hotel room
on a Saturday night in vegas is 3 times that of any other night!
Be cognizant of large conventions and busy periods that
may increase rates.
Consider staying a mile or two off-strip and save
significantly on room rates and dining.

65
GAMBLING TIPS AND TRICKS

S LOTS. These popular machines are often labeled “one

armed bandits” because they aren’t too kind to tourists.
There are a million and one resources about slots online,
so I’m just going to share some insider information that may
help you decide where and how to play.
 The two most-likely machines to hit multi-million dollar
payouts are Mega Bucks and Wheel of Fortune. You
should make a point to throw $20 in each of these on
every visit. After all, who knows? For prolonged play
these machines also boast some of the worst odds. Do
not linger.
 Always Max Bet if your budget permits it. The top prizes
on most machines can only be won if you’re betting the
maximum, yet even when betting a smaller amount you
are contributing to these top prize pools. Don’t
contribute to something you can’t win.
 Do not gamble at the airport. They have the lowest
percentages of payouts.
 If aisle machines and those by entrances or exits
appear to “hit” more frequently, it’s because they
receive more traffic and more play.
 Slot payouts or return to player is LOWER at high end
luxury resorts and higher at budget properties. Your
chances are even better on Fremont or off-strip.
Properties that must work to earn your business offer

66
“looser” slots. Gorgeous, high-end internationally-
recognized properties do not.
 Video Poker is the most profitable, long term, electronic
gaming option.
 Penny slots, especially branded ones like Willy Wonka,
Walking Dead or Big Bang Theory, have the lowest
“return to player”. They don’t have to offer much to lure
guests. They’re flashy and entertaining.
 Any denomination other than penny slots are a better
value and higher denominations typically have a higher
return to player.
 Rubbing a slot machine isn’t going to help you win, but
if it brings you joy, knock yourself out.
 Never play without your player’s card. Earning cash
back and comps decreases the house edge and
increases your theoretical profit margin.
 Machines are run by Random Number Generators and
most of the features and choices are illusions. The
amount you’re going to win off a particular spin is
determined at the time the button is pressed.
 How much a machine pays out over time is determined
by the “hold” or “return to player.” However, the game
type determines whether it pays small increments
frequently or stores money for large progressive
“jackpots”. Choose according to your preference and
goals.
 How the casino rates you is determined through a
combination of calculating the time you spent gambling
as well as the amount you wagered. Spending $10,000
in ten minutes is not as valuable as wagering $5,000
over ten hours.

67
 The graphics on the machine have no determination of
outcomes. Bags, pigs or anything else that may give
the impression the machine is “about to hit” are for
entertainment value only. The machine is no more or
less likely to hit based on the graphic.

PIT GAMBLING
These games are not beatable long-term. They ALL have
a house edge. Education about strategy and variance can
minimize this edge to a minute fraction, but casinos are
exceptionally skilled at keeping the odds in their favor. If at any
time you are believed to be beating the house edge,
manipulating game play, or using any mechanism to increase
your chances of winning, they will cap your betting or ask you
to leave - with or without proof. There is an entire team of
behind-the-scenes observers monitoring all gaming activity.
MOST guests believe they can beat the house and MOST of
the time the house is comfortable letting you utilize whatever
plan you have for doing so. If you ever actually get close to
success in a manner that can be replicated, your ability to
gamble will be limited and communications will be shared with
other properties. There is a reason movies have been made
about the few occasions people were very successful at
“beating the casino”. It doesn’t happen often.
You may, however, get lucky. It happens all the time.
Guests successfully turn $100 into six figures every single day
in Vegas. Guests also lose six figures every single day in Las
Vegas.
The ONLY game on property where the house does not
have an edge or advantage over you is POKER. The casino
makes money by taking a rake (percentage of winnings) from
each pot or prize pool, meaning poker is the only game where

68
you can theoretically win long term. You only have to out play
the other players.
The worst odds, of all the games, is KENO.
BINGO and PAI GOW both are fun low-investment games
that offer shots at considerable jackpots depending on the
property.
Some budget casinos offer free gaming lessons in the
morning. Call the property nearest you to find out what and
when they’re teaching. These classes are usually around 30
minutes long, are fun and engaging, and teach you the basics
of betting and table etiquette and prepare you to get in the
action on your own. The properties at a lower price point offer
these games in hopes that you will stick around and play. It is
customary to throw the instructor a small tip ($5 or so) at the

Poker Lessons & Rooms

As poker is the only game you can consistently beat long
term, I encourage anyone who is interested to learn how to
play. For a free lesson while you’re in town, email
[email protected]. They will also arrange group
tournaments for your party or host a game upon request.
Sahara is the best small room for mixed games, new players
and those who want to watch sports while playing.
The best low limit locals room is The Orleans. They feature
lots of promotions, popular tournaments and 24-hour action.
The best center-strip room for mid-stakes and tourists is Aria.
They feature the best pot limit Omaha action.
The best “friendly” games with solid promotions will be at
the MGM Grand Poker room.

Bellagio hosts more of your higher limit games and is the
place where you’re most likely to see a famous professional
player. Wynn is the best run, most comfortable luxury room
with more amenities than all the others combined.
For a free way to see up to the minute poker action city
wide, promotions, game selection, and more, download the
Bravo Poker App and the Poker Atlas App. Between those two
apps, you will be able to reserve a seat or see the action at all
poker rooms city-wide.

Bingo
There are no options for Bingo on the strip at this time.
Downtown the Plaza offers regular games, but on the strip the
nearest venue is Gold Coast. Gold Coast offers a free shuttle
that runs from Fashion Show Mall To The Orleans and back to
Gold Coast throughout the day. You must have a BConnected
Player’s card to utilize the shuttle.
South Point, Palace Station, Plaza, and Green Valley
Ranch are all somewhat close to the strip and offer live bingo.
