DG Automation Unit
DGAS-1 detects any failure in the EB supply , and starts the DG set . DGAS-1 keeps on monitoring the EB
supply even after the DG has started. If and when the EB supply returns, DGAS-1 stops the DG set.
All start / Stop operations are automatic and no manual intervention is required.
DGAS-1 gives a Start fail alarm , in the form of a blinking LED as well as a relay contact when the DG fails to
start even after three attempts to start after a mains failure . DGAS-1 saves the user from the burden of
monitoring the EB Supply and deputing a person to the sub station
to perform the manual Start / Stop operations and reduces the supply restoration time drastically. DGAS-1 has a
ON/Off switch - this can be used to switch off the automatic mode when not required. Once DGAS-1 is off, the
DG set can be operated manually.
1. Control Unit : This unit is wall mounted. The inputs to this unit are the R-Y-B-N of EB supply , the 12V
battery , and R-N of the DG supply. Specially designed input signal conditioners perform the EB / DG supply
availability. A state of the art micro- controller performs the switching logic.
2. Relay Unit : This is a small box containing three nos. High current relays to power on the starter solenoid, the
stop solenoid and close the ignition circuit of the DG set. This is to be mounted near the DG set / battery so that
unncessary voltage drops can be avoided. This unit also houses a battery charger - which keeps the battery in
trickle charge from the EB supply when the DG is not running.
When the EB supply fails, the the control unit gives a START pulse in the from of a potential free contact. This
has to be connected to the relay unit. If the DG starts, the control unit does not give any more START pulses.
If the DG does not start after first pulse, it gives a second START pulse. If the DG does not start after second
pulse , the unit gives a third START pulse. If the DG does not start even after these three pulses, the generates
a START FAIL alarm in the form of a contact as well as Flashing LED. No more START pulses are given.
DGAS-1 gives a STOP pulse when the EB supply returns while the DG is running. The stop pulse should be
wired to the relay unit.
ALARMS : Whenever a START signal is given, DGAS-1 checks whether the DG has started OK ( by checking
the presence of of RDG voltage at the terminals). If the DG does not start even after three consequtive start
signals, the alarm LED on the front panel will start blinking. This blinking will stop only if the EB / DG supply
is restored or the unit is reset by power offf and on.
An On/ off switch is provided to shut down the auto start relay whenever not required.
