Abortion
Moderator: Thank you both for your opening statements. Faezeh, how do
you respond to Danial's argument that life begins at conception?
F: While I respect Danial's beliefs, I do not believe that a fetus has the
same rights as a fully formed human being. A fetus is not capable of
surviving outside of the womb and is dependent on the mother's body for
survival. Women should have the right to make decisions about their own
bodies and lives, including whether or not to continue a pregnancy.
D: I understand that women should have autonomy over their bodies, but
the issue of abortion goes beyond just the woman's body. It involves the life
of another human being. As a society, we should value and protect all
human life, including that of the unborn.
F: OK let me ask you something. What about cases of rape or when the
mother's life is at risk? Please just don’t tell me you “understand” but blah
blah blah. In cases of rape, it is especially important that women have
access to safe and legal abortion services. No woman should be forced to
carry a child that is the result of rape. In cases where the mother's life is at
risk, it is important to prioritize the health and safety of the mother.
D: While these situations are certainly difficult, it does not change the fact
that abortion is still the taking of a human life. We should explore
alternative options, such as adoption or parenting support, to ensure that
the life of the unborn is protected.
F: Can you imagine how hard it is to carry a creature inside you which is
the result of such a traumatic case? Do yOu have aNy idea???
D: Don’t know about THAT but don’t you think It’s kind of selfish to call a
little innocent baby “a creature”?
F: Research has shown that children who grow up in poverty are more
likely to experience negative outcomes such as poor health, lower
educational attainment, and higher rates of crime. By allowing women to
make the decision to have an abortion based on their economic
circumstances, we may be preventing children from being born into
situations of poverty.
D: Economic stability can change over time, and a woman who may not be
financially stable at the time of conception may be able to provide for a
child in the future. By choosing to have an abortion solely based on
economic circumstances, a woman may be missing out on the opportunity
to experience the joy and fulfillment that comes with parenthood.
F: yes “maybe”. What if such a thing doesn’t happen? These days it’s so
hard to move from a social class to another. You can’t make decisions for
one’s future based on possibilities that may or may not happen.
And even if in the future you come to realize that you have a better
economic situation, you can try to have a baby again or easily adopt one.
D: listen. No matter what the circumstance is, I won’t step back from my
belief. If you are I don’t know, Cristian, catholic or Muslim, you should be
pro-life. Whatever to try to do, legalization or illegalization won’t be the
solution. We ought to figure out another way to stop this debate for
goodness of bot of us.
F: I know that we are not enemies. But you can’t step out and tell
everybody not to have sexual intercourse or whatever just to prevent
abortion whatsoever. It is the time and day that many people affected by
the pressure of economic factors or by religion or hormones or else, doing
what they must not do …
D: wait. What does it all have to do with economic factors and hormones
and stuff?
D: apologizes.
F: yes. Abortion has a lot to do with these factors and more. as I said
before, you can’ help it just now. In the cases of rape, under these factors
such as the financial problems, that won’t allow young generation to get
marry and have their free will to have intercourse and have baby when they
can is the reason that rape or unwanted pregnancy happens, when two
people are in a relationship and the accident happens, or religiously
speaking, in Holy Quran it is said that you should not take the life of the
unborn is the reason for all the pressure on women who have been raped
and now are under the condition of unwanted pregnancy.
D: what are you even talking about? As I said, it is all about ethical and
cultural problems that such situations occur. It doesn’t have anything to do
with financial or religious problems. If only you listened to what I said and
had more information and knowledge about what has been said in the Holy
Quran, you wouldn’t just mumble all these stuff as a reason for abortion’s
illegalization.
Moderator: maybe you are right. But there would be clarification needed in
order to get what you are exactly trying to say.
D: again, I will not be satisfied with your statement. Imagine there were
medically or religiously, more laws about abortion, then what would happen
to our mothers and sisters? On top of that, the fact that a woman should
have the right to deal with her own body and have the power to decide
whether she wants to abort the child or not, is absolutely wrong.
F: How exactly it is wrong for a woman to have one of the most basic
human right of hers. how is it wrong for a woman to decide to abort a child
or a fetus that she doesn’t want to have and believe me that if the mother’s
mental or physical health is in the list of conditions where the mother can
decide, then if only I’m not mentally ready to have a child whether it is mine
or someone else’s, then it will seriously damage my health, SPECIALLY my
mental health. It could literally drag me down.
F: So, let me myself deal with my god if that is the case. If I don’t want to
bring an unwanted child to life and that has something to do with religion
and me and my god, I would gladly still choose me and will be dealing with
my god about it.
