When / While I was really little I 2. watch / used to watch Popye every day. He was my
favourite character and I still remember laughing at his adventures.
Popeye is a sailor. In my opinon, he is brave, caring and never 3. gives up / deals with. He

#26 Popeye has been a popular character for nearly one hundred years now, he’s really funny and
personally I think he’s one of the best characters ever.

00:00-01:00 Look at the title. See if students can identify where it comes from (Porky Pig Set context

Put the character cards up around the classroom. Identify the cartoon
01:00-06:00
characters in task 1. Tell students they have two minutes to find the card
they think matches the character and write down the personality adjectives
underneath the character. There might be some argument over the
adjectives you have chosen for each character – this is fine… if students can
give and justify their opinions, it’s great practice!
06:00-08:00 Put students in pairs. Discuss the questions in task 2.
08:00-12:00 Get feedback. Elicit the meaning any language they don’t know and revise Revise and extend
the ones from the unit. Discuss why these characteristics apply to each vocabulary
character

12:00-15:00 Direct students’ attention to task 3. Read the text. Guess which character Read text for gist
