Environment and Eco-economics

Under the general trend of the United Nations advocating simultaneous economic and
environmental development, Nigeria, as Africa's largest economy, ecological and environmental
protection is particularly important.

Peter Hawkins, representative of the United Nations Children's Fund in Nigeria, issued a
statement in Abuja, saying that although about 73% of Nigeria's population has access to basic
water supply, more than half of the water sources are contaminated, and the average daily water
consumption per capita is only 9 liters, more than 86% of people do not have access to safely
