NARRATIVE REPORT ON MIDYEAR IN-SERVICE TRAINING ON INCLUSIVE EDUCATION

Marina Bay Elementary School participated in a District Mid-Year In-Service Training for

Teachers last January 26, 2024, at Cabcaben Elementary School. The Topics discussed falls under the

umbrella of Inclusive Education.

The first speaker, Ms. Raquel S. Calma, Master Teacher I of Sisiman Elementary School talked

about the topic “Organizing Inclusive Schools”. According to Ms. Calma, Inclusion is built on the

premise that all students should be valued for their unique abilities and included as essential members

of a school community. Inclusion is not a place; it is a way of thinking. Moving some students from

special education settings to general education settings is merely a first step to ensuring supported

and successful inclusion for all.

The second speaker, Mr. Rodolfo N. Ariola, SPET1 of Cabcaben Elementary School talked

about the topic, “Classroom Management and Behavior Management”. Mr. Ariola emphasized that

classroom management strategies are key to starting off your school year on the right foot and

maintaining a positive classroom environment all year. The strategy you go with has plenty of variables

from the ages of the students in your classroom to personal experience to even any other important

considerations.

Mr. Arilola said that Behavior management, similar to behavior modification, is a less-intensive

form of behavior therapy. Unlike behavior modification, which focuses on changing behavior, behavior

management focuses on maintaining positive habits and behaviors and reducing negative ones.

Behavior management skills are especially useful for teachers and educators, healthcare workers, and

those working in supported living communities

The last speaker, Mr. Jonathan P. Escaro, Teacher III of Lucanin Integrated School talked about

the topic, “Assessment and Identification of Children with Special Needs”. Mr. Escaro defined

assessment in special education as the process used to determine a child’s specific learning strengths

and needs, and to determine whether or not a child is eligible for special education services.

Assessment in special education is a process that involves collecting information about a student for

the purpose of making decisions. Assessment is primarily a problem-solving process”.

This day is indeed full of learnings and new discoveries. Teachers have been given another

learning experience that would surely improve their craft.
