use evidence to support their argument. They also didn't know how to use the information they were
given usefully. 4) Study Sources F and G Use Sources F and G, and your own Knowledge, to
explain how the police tried to catch Jack the Ripper. People who used this prostitutes probably
wanted no one to know they were using them as most of them had wives, so there would have been
a lot of people acting suspicious. Many people pretended to be Jack the Ripper so they could get
food and somewhere to sleep overnight, which meant the police had no idea who was lying and who
was telling the truth. One reason being police surgeon estimated that the victim died at 4:30 (using
the body cooling method), one hour before Mrs Long said she saw Annie Chapman. This was
because a male police officer with clunky boots, heavy build, masculine features could not pull it off
as a prostitute. However, they did endeavour some methods, which they believed would help catch
the Ripper. Write a review Update existing review Submit review Cancel It's good to leave some

information boards to identify links between the victims, the killers methods and produce a profile of
Jack the Ripper. It also illustrates that the Ripper may have escaped because of the police’s procedure
if enquiry. Source J is a photograph of the site where Annie Chapman died. In real life, Kelly was
killed in the dingy single room ground floor flat that she rented, probably having brought the Ripper
back as a client after meeting him as a prostitute. Nevertheless, there is the possibility that the body
could have cooled down quicker. This resource hasn't been reviewed yet To ensure quality for our

prostitutes and that the murders were not committed in order to steal from them. It says there are no
clues and if the police catch the Ripper it would be a complete fluke, as they have no proper
evidence. One of the lessons (Who was Jack the Ripper?) is FREE so you can download that one to

would confuse the police if she were wrong, as they spent a long time looking for a foreigner. I have

would have been given to people who leaved around Whitechaple. This source also states that there
was a 'network of narrow, dark and crooked lanes', which means that even if there were more police
on the beat there would be many places for the Ripper to kill again with no one seeing, this is what
happened in future. Moreover, the article also alleges that a psychopath committed the murders,
because he vigorously abused the bodies, after he killed the women. This newspaper leaves out many
bits of information on the murders, like where they took place (George Yard and Bucks Row) and
when they happened. 2) Study Sources A, B and C. Write a review Update existing review Submit

impression that they believe people would come forward with false evidence in order to gain a

were not typical. Source D is a description of Jack the Ripper, the description is very vague and not
very clear, there are lots of words like 'I think' in there. The identity of the Ripper was never solved,

contain the panic as much as possible; they did this by rubbing off the message on the wall near the
murder of Catherine Eddowes, which said the Jews would not be blamed for nothing. Although
blood was found on some occasion, (some was on the victim and some on the suspect) a suspect
could say that it was the blood of an animal without difficulty. Turning off the personalised

the police didn't have much true information to go on. Students will learn about the context of the
East End of London in 1888 and then use evidence collected by the police at the time to analyse the
suspects. Pupils had the morning for an intro into the Ripper crimes, then had the afternoon with a

Source E is newspaper article after the murders of Polly Nicholls and Annie Chapman. They still

prosecute a suspect. This was probably the wrong thing to do because a reward was the only way to
get any information because the public didn't trust the police, because of there bully tactics used in
the past. These were the first murders like this, so with no information, how could the police catch
him. Source G shows that the police did not offer a reward for any information leading to the
capture of Jack the Ripper, which was probably a bad thing as many people did not like or trust the
current police force, and they had no other way to get information. The idea was that someone might
have known, seen, or heard something that could help with the inquiry to catch the Ripper. This
requires a plot where The Ripper, a serial killer who impulse-killed women, alters his modus operandi
to kill witnesses and leave taunting notes that he is coming for Sonja. This would confuse the police
if she were wrong, as they spent a long time looking for a foreigner. The newspaper wanted to
emphasise how brutal the murders were. As well as this, Mrs Long said the man talking to Annie
Chapman was dark complexioned and looked like a foreigner. Both sources are useful to understand

say much about the police investigation, but I know that the information about the murderer is
probably false like most of the information in newspapers, so information like this would have
