A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics V

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
a. multiply decimals up to 2 decimal places by 1-to-2 digit whole numbers
b. estimate the products of decimal numbers with reasonable results; and
c. participate actively in class

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Multiplying Decimals

B. Reference 21st Century Mathletes

PP 126-131

C. Materials blackboard, students textbook

III. Procedure Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Preliminary Activities

 Prayer
Everybody stand up (A pupil will lead the prayer)

 Greetings
Good morning class!
How’s your day? Good morning Sir!
We’re fine Sir!
 Energizer
Really? Let’s see if you are, to make
you more active and alert, let’s have an
energizer.
(Teacher will play a short video) (Pupils will dance together with their teacher)

 Classroom management
Grade V, take your seat and arrange
your chairs. Then, pick up all the pieces
of papers you’ll see Thank you Sir!

 Checking of attendance
Is there any absentee for today?

Very good! Nobody is absent today Sir

2. Drill
Class I have some graphic picture here, all you
need to do is put a  to it vertically and 
horizontally based on the numbers that is placed He is Mr. Bean sir!

3. Review
Before we proceed to our new lesson, again
class what is our last lesson? Addition and subtraction of decimal numbers sir!

Let me see if you still remember our past

lesson.

Are you ready? Yes, Sir

(The teacher will post their past activity on the

board)

4. Motivation
Class lets watch a short video about
multiplication
Yes, Sir!
Are you ready?
(The teacher will present a short video)
B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation

Our lesson for today is about Multiplying

Decimals

To multiply decimals, multiply decimals as you

would multiply whole numbers

Example 1 Find the product of 0.63 and 0.5

0.63 – 2 decimal places

x 0.5 – 1 decimal place
0315

Count the number of decimal places in both

factors.

0.63
x 0.5
0.315 – 3 decimal places
Answer: 0.315

Example 2 Find the product of 2 and 0.87

0.87 – 2 decimal places

x 2 – no decimal place
174

Affix the decimal point in the product as

determined by the number of decimal places of
the factors

0.87
x 2
1.74 – 2 decimal places
Answer: 1.74
Yes, sir!
Is it clear class?

C. Generalization
Sir! We have to count the number of decimal
Okay class, again in multiplying decimal places in both factors.
numbers how can we determine the decimal
places of its product?

Correct!
Sir! All we have to do is to affix the decimal point
How about multiplying decimal numbers with in the product as determined by the number of
whole numbers? How can we determine the decimal places of the factors.
decimal places of its product?
D. Application

For your activity

Remember what we did earlier with the graphic (The students will answer the activity)
picture? Now I will give you another activity with
regards to that.

Plot and answer the following:

1. 0.5 x 0.6
2. 0.4 x 0.8
3. 0.7 x 0.7
4. 0.8 x 0.5
5. 0.2 x 0.8

IV. Evaluation

Estimate each sum. Then, find the actual sum.

1. 0.35 2. 0.75 3. 0.63

x 42 x 6 x 0.39

4. 0.61 5. 0.57
x 39 x 0.39

V. Assignment
