Cylinder Pressure Sensor
 Sensor Characteristics
• Piezoelectric effect
• Fast response time, high natural frequency
• Good linearity
• Small size, light weight
• Low sensitivity to environmental conditions (temperature, pressure, ..)

18 HGS Global Academy

Cylinder Pressure Sensor
 Installation

Tool of cylinder pressure sensor

Mounting torque of sensor: 15Nm

19 HGS Global Academy

Knock Sensor
 Sensor Characteristics
• Acceleration sensor , which converts the engine vibration to analog signal by piezoelectric effect.
• Detection of structure-borne acoustic oscillation

Maker: Bosch
Type: 0 261 231 118
Mounting torque of sensor: 20±5Nm

• When knocking is detected, engine control system

retards the ignition timing to reduce the knocking.
• If the knocking can be stopped, the ignition timing is
moved back step by step to the initial value.

20 HGS Global Academy

Pickup Sensor
 Sensor Characteristics
• Pickup sensor creates a magnetic field from the detection face
• Used for measuring speed of engine components with teeth, e.g. flywheel, cam

21 HGS Global Academy

Thermocouple Temperature Sensor
 Sensor Characteristics
• Electrical device consisting of two dissimilar electrical conductors.
• Thermocouple produces a temperature-dependent voltage as result of the thermoelectric effect.
• Used for measuring high temperature, e.g. exhaust gas temperature, turbocharger gas in/out
temperature, ..

RTD (PT100) Temperature Sensor
 Sensor Characteristics
• RTD (Resistance Temperature Detector) contains a resistor that changes resistance value as its
temperature change.
• As a kind of RTD, PT100 has a resistance value of “0 “ohm.
• Used for measuring low temperature, e.g. cooling water temperature, lube oil temperature, ..

24 HGS Global Academy

Pressure Sensor
 Sensor Characteristics
• Used for measuring mass pressure, e.g. cooling water pressure, lube oil pressure, ..
• Intrinsically safe pressure sensor is used in potentially explosive atmosphere.
• Output signal : 4 ~ 20 mA

Intrinsically safe pressure transmitters

Level Switch
 Sensor Characteristics
• L.O sump tank level check
• If level is lower or higher than set point, it releases alarm to system.

26 HGS Global Academy

Limit Switch
 Sensor Characteristics
• Turning gear engagement check
• If turning gear is engaged on the flywheel, it releases signal to system for blocking start.
