The field experience from these bearings have so far been good.
Recent work shop test runs have, however, showed some small movement of
the bearings during the first running hours. This movement was more severe
when using 2V11B350/351 bearings, but the same kind of movement was ex-
perienced also with 2V11B381/382 bearings.
The test performed so far showed that the reason for this small movement is
length reduction of the bearing shell during the assembly and during the first
running hours. A small movement after assembly is normal. However, if the
movement of the bearing is severe, the guiding pins can be bent and as a con-
sequence start to press the bearing shell against the crankpin. This situation
can lead to a bearing failure.
Actions to be taken
If the bearing has not moved during the first running hours at full load, there is
no reason to believe that the bearing would move later. However, for safety rea-
sons the following actions must be taken:
1. MIBA 2V11B350/351 bearings, with guiding pins, are not allowed to be used.
2. All MIBA bearings which have been installed must be replaced.
3. BHW 2V11B381/382 bearings, with guiding pins, are not allowed to assemble.
The use of the old type GL 87 bearings is unlimited. The bearings which can
be used are 1V11B313/314 and 2V11B187/188.

Engines concerned
The first anti-cavitation bearings have been installed in engine number 6375.
More widely the use of these bearings started at the beginning of November
1995, starting from engine number 6874.
