PIZZA CALZONE RECIPE

Making pizza calzone is a delicious way to enjoy all the flavors of pizza wrapped up in a convenient
pocket. Here's a recipe for homemade pizza calzone:

Ingredients:

For the dough:

 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast

 1 cup warm water (about 110°F or 45°C)

 1 teaspoon granulated sugar

 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

 1 teaspoon salt

 2 tablespoons olive oil

For the filling:

 1 cup pizza sauce

 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

 Your choice of pizza toppings (e.g., pepperoni, cooked sausage, sliced bell peppers, sliced
mushrooms, etc.)

For assembling:

 Cornmeal or flour (for dusting)

 Olive oil (for brushing)

 Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for sprinkling)

 Italian seasoning (optional, for sprinkling)

Instructions:

1. In a small bowl, combine the warm water, granulated sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir gently and
let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy and bubbly.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the
activated yeast mixture and olive oil.

3. Stir the ingredients together until a dough forms. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and
knead for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

4. Place the kneaded dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel or plastic
wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
5. Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven to preheat as
well.

6. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide the dough into equal-sized
portions, depending on how many calzones you want to make.

7. Roll out each portion of dough into a circle or oval shape, about 1/4 inch thick. Transfer the
rolled-out dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet sprinkled with cornmeal or flour.

8. Spread a layer of pizza sauce onto one half of each rolled-out dough circle, leaving a small
border around the edges. Top the sauce with shredded mozzarella cheese and your choice of
pizza toppings.

9. Carefully fold the other half of the dough over the filling to create a half-moon shape. Press the
edges firmly to seal, then crimp the edges with a fork to secure.

10. Brush the tops of the calzones with olive oil and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and
Italian seasoning, if desired.

11. Use a sharp knife to make a few small slits on the top of each calzone to allow steam to escape
during baking.

12. Bake the calzones in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until they are golden brown and
crispy on the outside.

13. Once baked, remove the calzones from the oven and let them cool slightly before serving.

Enjoy your homemade pizza calzones hot, with additional pizza sauce for dipping if desired. They're
perfect for a delicious and satisfying meal!
