CHANDLER, Ariz- Kori Martin, a senior track and field star at Hamilton High School has been
in the spotlight numerous times not just in the state of Arizona, but throughout the nation. After
breaking several records in the state Martin continues to strive for greatness.
Reaching the top of the list was not easy, and it came with a lot of hard work and dedication.
Martin began her running journey at just the age of 6 years old, following in the footsteps of her
older brother, Cole Martin, a cornerback at Arizona State University.
“He is a great person, his work ethic is insane, he has always pushed me to do better, and is a
big motivator in my life,” Martin said.
While Cole Martin has always been a huge inspiration to his younger sister. The inspiration
does not stem from very far away, Martin’s father is the current cornerbacks coach and passing
game coordinator at Michigan State University.
Martin faced some hurdles along the way while working to become one of the best athletes to
ever exist at the high school level in Arizona. Just before Martin’s sophomore track and field
season, she found herself recovering from an ACL tear that she suffered during volleyball prac-
tice.
After a lot of physical therapy and rehabilitation, Martin used her freshman season as motivation
to get back on the track. During Martin’s freshman season in 2021, she had a historic perfor-
mance during the state championship. Martin became the fastest freshman in America to run a
100m hurdle, only taking 13.81 seconds, which allowed her to be named as a state champion.
Martin returned to the track during her junior year, after recovering from her injury. When she re-
turned she did what she has always done, set a new personal record. As Martin continued to
break records her name remained at the top of the list, for being one of the quickest runners in
her graduating class across the state, and nation.
After Martin took every chance to show the world who she really is, the offers came flooding in.
Martin has committed to the University of Kentucky’s Track and Field program, after receiving
scholarships from multiple D1 schools across the nation.
While Martin has been noticed for her athletic career throughout the country, those around her
notice her for the person that she is.
“Kori has always been a strong leader for her teammates and always pushes us to do our best
not only at meets, but at practice. Kori makes sure that everyone feels included and always en-
courages and cheers on all of her teammates.” said senior teammate, Mia McClure.
While Martin prepares to pack her bags for Kentucky E.J. Martin, Hamilton’s Track and Field
coach, believes that this is just the beginning for Martin.
“Her hunger and strive to be the best is unparalleled, at home, in the weight room, on the track,
she works tirelessly to achieve perfection.” said high school coach, E.J. Martin.
