SPEAKING

Part 1: Personal information Each student will be asked 4 questions about different topics.

UNIT7: Work:
- Have you ever worked part time?
Yes, I have. I have a part time job as a waiter/waitress at a coffee shop/ a tutor…
No, I have a little free time so I want to spend my time on studying.
- What kind of job do you want to do in the future?
I want to be an accountant/ a bank teller/ sale assistant/an officer…
to work in a bank/ a real estate company/ a joint stock company…
- What have you been doing to prepare for your future job?
I have been trying to study hard to get a good certificate of this school. Besides, I’m learning
for Toeic test, computing skills and some soft skills and doing volunteer works…
- What do you do to get ready for a job interview?
I always read the job interview on the internet, learn how to write a CV (in English and
Vietnamese) and practice to answer some formal questions in a job interview.

Part 2: Social Interaction


A pair of students will be asked to talk about a situation together for about 2 minutes. There are
3 types of task for this part of the test. The examiner will choose one of them for each pair of
students, describe the situation, provide a card with some necessary information for each student
and give them clear instructions.
1/ Job interview Model question: Exercise 6 on page 88.
Student A: interviewer
Student B: interviewee

Student A: interviewer: invite the interviewee to sit down, greeting and ask some personal
information:
St A: Hello, What’s your name?
St B: Hello Sir/Madam, I’m…….
St A: Where are you from:
StB: I’m from……
StA: What are you doing at the moment?
StB: I’m a student at the Industrial university of HCM city.
StA: Why have you applied for this job?
StB: Because I want to have some extra money and I’m free in the evenings and weekends
StA: Have you worked in a shop before?
StB: I was a sale assistant for an online shop a year ago.
StA: What did you like about that job?
StB: I liked working with customers and helping them with their perfect choices although
the job was busy.
StA: That’s good! Do you have any questions for this job?
StB: Can you tell me the salary and the typical hours?
StA: $20 per hour and you can start to work from 6p.m to 10 p.m.
StB. Thank you so much for the interview. I hope to see you again. Bye sir.
StA: Bye.

Part 3: Follow-up questions Each student will be asked 2 questions related to their conversation
in Part 2.

UNIT 8: Technology:
- What invention do you think is useful for your study?
I think mobile phone/ computer is useful for my study because it helps me search anything for
my study
- What do you usually do on the Internet?
I usually look for information/ download material and music/ watch films/tiktok/youtube/
look up new words/ access facebook/intergram…
- Do you prefer using a mobile phone or a laptop to study online?
I prefer using my mobile phone to study online because it’s convenient and I can access the
internet faster
I prefer using my computer to study online because I can use my material in it for my study
and it’s easy to see my teacher’s lessons
- Do you know any famous inventor?
I know some famous inventors such as
Alexander Graham Bell invented the first telephone,
Thomas Edison invented the electric light bulb
Tesla invented the first electric sport car
Alessandro Volta invented the first battery
Maria Beasley invented the first life raft

Unit 9: Holidays:
Part 1: Personal information Each student will be asked 4 questions about different topics
- What activities do you like to do when you are on holiday?
If I go on holiday at the seaside, I like swimming and diving in the sea and sunbathing on
the beach.
If I go on holiday in the mountains, I like hiking and camping
- What kind of accommodation do you like to stay in when you are on holiday?
When I go on holiday, I like staying at hotels/ resorts…
- Have you ever had any problems on holiday?
Yes, I have had some problems such as it rained all the time, the hotel wasn’t very good
or we got lost when we go sightseeing.
- Do you prefer travelling in a group or on your own?
I prefer travelling in a group because it’s funny. We can share travelling experiences to
each other, we can do many interesting activities in group. Especially, travelling in a group is
safer than travelling on my own.
Part 2: Social Interaction

- What is the last thing you bought online?
The last thing I bought is a mobile phone/laptop/watch…
- How important do you think logos are?
They make us remember products and maybe we can buy a product with a famous logo
- Which websites do you visit when you want to buy things such as clothes, shoes, and
books?
They’re Tiki, Lazada, Shoppee…
- What do you think makes one website better than another?
The website with the up-to-date content and no adverts on the top or the side of the
screen is better than another.
Unit 11: HISTORY:
- Do you often play video games with your friends?
Yes, I do. I often play……………… with my friends in my free time/ the evenings
No, I don’t. I’m busy with my study and part-time job.
- What sorts of game are popular in your country?
The popular games in Vietnam are First person shooter (FPS), Role playing game (RPG),
Real time strategy (RTS), Sport game, Casual or Puzzle.
- Do you think that video games are bad for you?
I think it’s bad if I play them all time that make my study worse and worse
- What historical place in Vietnam have you ever visited?
The historical place in Vietnam I have visited is Cu Chi tunnels/ Hue Imperial city/ HCM
mausoleum

Unit 12: NATURE:


- If you could live in another country, where would you move to?
If I could live another country, I would move to Singapore because I think it’s the cleanest
and nicest country in the world.
- If you won a lot of money, would you stop working / studying?
If I won a lot of money, I wouldn’t stop working/studying because if I didn’t work, I would
run out of money some day but I would donate some money to local charities to help poor or sick
people.
- What is your favorite animal?
My favorite animal are dogs because they’re cute and intelligent.
- Have you ever visited a zoo?
Yes, I have, I visted the city zoo 3 months ago. I love animals there. Monkeys climb quickly,
giraffes are nice and friendly. Tigers and lions look aggressive and strong.

Part 2: Social Interaction


3/ Discussion on problems and solutions in a meeting Model question: Exercise 6 page 148 (Turn
to pages 153,154, and 155)
EX:
Student A: Hello, B and thank you for coming. Today we are going to discuss the zoo. The
problem is that our zoo has not enough money to buy more animals. To solve this proplem, we
can contact other zoos and exchange animals so people will come back to look at different
animals
Student B: Yes, but I’m afraid they will disagree with our suggestion because of the
competition. I think we should ask companies to sponsor different animals and their name will be
on a sign near the animal.
Student A: You might be right. Your solution is good for these days.
Student B: Ok, Now, we should make a plan for this. Firstly, we should list the names of some
companies. Secondly, we will write formal letters to them.

PART 2: Social interaction


A pair of students will be asked to discuss on problems and solutions in a meeting for 02
minutes.
Card A - Student A: You are the zoo manager and will lead the meeting.
 Problem: The zoo will close because there is not enough money to run it.
 Suggestion: Sell souvenirs to visitors to earn more money.
 Reason for responding positively to B’s suggestion: Companies will support this plan
because they can advertise their own companies on the sign.
Card B - Student B: You work for the zoo.
 Reason for responding negatively to A’s suggestion: Many people prefer buying
souvenirs elsewhere.
 Suggestion: Ask companies to sponsor different animals at the zoo. Their companies’
names will be on a sign near the animal.
 Concluding idea: List the names of some company bosses and contact them.
Sample:
Student A: Hello, B and thank you for coming. Today we are going to discuss the zoo. The
problem is that the zoo will close because there is not enough money to run it. :

Student B: I think that won’t work because many people prefer buying souvenirs elsewhere.y

Yes, there is. It’s far from my house about 5km.
No, there isn’t. My hometown is a small city
2. What animal do you like to see when you visit a zoo?
I like seeing peacocks because they move beautifully/ monkeys because they climb fast...

Questions for Student B:


1. Do you think that it's good for children to visit a zoo?
Yes, it’s good for children to visit a zoo because they have a exciting experience and they can
see animals in real life, not in their books
2. Would you like to work for a zoo?
Maybe, if I have a good salary here.
