also come under scrutiny as the reported crowd attendance has been more than the stadium
capacities despite games having visible empty seats. Current FIFA president Gianni Infantino has
defended the hosting of the tournament in Qatar. These are some controversies of the World

promoting tolerance, including LGBT+ issues. On 8 December 2020, Qatar announced
that rainbow flag will be allowed in the stadiums at the 2022 world cup. Nasser Al-
Khater, 2022 world cup chief executive, said: “when it comes to the rainbow flags in
the stadiums, the have their rules and regulations, whatever they may be, we will
respect them.”
Shortly before the tournament commenced, former Qatar international player and
world cup ambassador Kalid Salman described homosexuality as ”a damage in the
mind” in an interview with german broadcaster ZDF, which led to further criticsm,
including from the german government.
 Cost
By some estimates, the world cup is going to cost Qatar approximately US$220 billion
this is about 60 times the $3.5 billion that south Africa spent o 2010 FIFA world cup.
Nicola Ritter, a german legal financial analyst, told an investors’ summit held in munich
that 107 billion pound would be spent on the stadiums and facilities plus 31 billion
pound for the infrastrusctures.
 Cultural and political issues
At the time of being awarded the tournament in 2010, Qatar was ranked in 113 in the
world, and had never qualified for the world cup before. The most prestigious accolade
the team had won was the arabian gulf cup twice, both times hosting.

nations for its own team.

With all of that issues about FIFA world cup in Qatar have made it controversial because of
some instances claim that Qatar is not ready for become the host of this big event that
eventually held once on a for years period of times.

But some of that issues are truly against the belief of the citizens in Qatar, because majority of
