COMMMUNITY-BASED ACTION PLAN

I. PROBLEM:

HEALTH AWARENESS OF SMOKING, SPECIFICALLY AMONG TEENAGERS

II. CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM:

The root cause of smoking among teenagers are peer pressure it is one of the

primary reasons why teenagers start smoking is due to peer pressure. They may feel

pressured to fit in with their friends or be seen as cool and rebellious. Stress and

anxiety, teenage years can be a challenging and stressful time, and smoking is often

used as a coping mechanism to deal with the pressures of school, relationships, and

other personal issues. Media influence, the glamorization of smoking in movies, TV

shows, and advertisements can also play a role in influencing teenagers to start

smoking. It creates a false perception smoking is a normal and acceptable behavior.

And Family history, children of parents who smoke are more likely to become

smokers themselves. They are often exposed to smoking at home and may view it as a

normal activity.

III. EFFECTS OF THE PROBLEM ON PEOPLE:

Smoking has numerous negative effects on both individuals and society as a

whole. As a highly addictive habit, it not only harms the smoker's health but also

those around them. Here are some of the harmful effects of smoking:

Health consequences: Smoking can lead to a wide range of health problems,

including lung cancer, heart disease, stroke, and respiratory diseases. It also increases

the risk of developing chronic conditions like diabetes and hypertension.

Financial burden: Smoking is an expensive habit that can put a strain on the

smoker's finances. It can also lead to increased healthcare costs for individuals and the

government.
Environmental impact: Cigarette butts are the most littered item in the

world, and they take years to decompose. Smoking also contributes to air pollution,

water pollution, and deforestation.

IV. PROPOSED COMMMUNITY-BASED ACTION ON HOW TO SOLVE THE

PROBLEM:

To effectively address the issue of smoking among teenagers, a community-

based action plan is proposed. This will involve the collaboration of various

stakeholders, including Barangay, parents, healthcare professionals, and local

authorities.

V. TARGET DATE OR MONTH OF THE PROPOSED ACTION:

The proposed action will take place during the month of October, which is

recognized as National Health Education Week. This month is dedicated to promoting

health education and awareness, making it an ideal time to raise awareness about the

dangers of smoking.

VI. ACTIVITIES:

1. Health Education Workshops: The first step in this action plan is to conduct

health education workshops for teenagers in community. These workshops will

educate teenagers about the harmful effects of smoking on their health and well-

being. They will also provide information on the addictive nature of nicotine and

the various chemicals present in cigarettes.

2. Parental Involvement: Parents play a crucial role in shaping their children's

attitudes and behaviors. To involve parents in this campaign, informational

sessions will be conducted to educate them about the dangers of smoking and how

they can support their children in avoiding smoking.

3. Smoking Cessation Programs: For those teenagers who are already smoking,

smoking cessation programs will be organized. These programs will provide

support and resources to help them quit smoking. They will also educate them
about the benefits of a smoke-free life and provide them with coping strategies to

deal with peer pressure.

4. Community Events: To reach a wider audience and create a buzz around the

campaign, community events will be organized. These events will include

activities such as poster making competitions, quizzes, and skits related to the

harmful effects of smoking. This will not only spread awareness but also engage

the community in the cause.

5. Social Media Campaign: In this digital age, social media is a powerful tool to

spread awareness and reach a larger audience. A social media campaign will be

launched to promote the cause and reach out to teenagers who may not be able to

attend the workshops or events.

6. Collaboration with Local Authorities: Local authorities, such as the police and

municipal councils, will be involved in this campaign. They can help in enforcing

laws against the sale of tobacco products to minors and creating smoke-free zones

in public places.

COMMUNITY-BASED ADVOCACY PLAN

I. Problem:
Climate Change has emerged as one of the most critical challenges of our
time.

II. Causes of the Problem:

The primary causes of climate change is the increase in greenhouse gases
(GHGs) in the atmosphere. Human activities, particularly the burning of fossil
fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas. Deforestation, industrial processes, and
agriculture also release these gases, exacerbating the problem. As a result, the
Earth’s natural greenhouse effect is intensifying, causing global temperatures to
rise.

III. Effects of the Problem:

Climate Change can have various effects on people such as leads to more
frequent and severe heatwaves, droughts, hurricanes, and floods. These events can
result in loss of life, injuries, displacement, and destruction of infrastructure,
triggering significant social and economic disruptions. Changing climate can also
affect human health directly through heat-related illnesses, respiratory problems
due to poor air quality, and increased transmission of vector-borne diseases like
malaria and dengue fever. Furthermore, climate change can affect rising sea
levels, increased desertification, and extreme weather events force communities to
relocate, becoming climate refugees. Additionally, climate change affects extreme
weather events which can cause property damage, loss of businesses, and
increased insurance costs, burdening local economies and governments.

IV. Proposed community-based action on how to solve the Problem:

These are the action on how we can solve the climate change problem:
1. Tree Planting
2. Minimize land degradation and conserve water.
3. Promotes resource efficiency, recycling, and waste reduction.
4. Increase public awareness about the impacts of climate change and
the importance of taking action for our environment.

V. Target date or month of the proposed action

The target month of this proposed action is on January 24-June 5, 2024.

VI. Activities that will be conducted to solve the problem (enumerate) and
timetable:

Activities Timetable
Tree Planting January 24-26, 2024
Recycling and Waste Reduction February 23, 2024
Climate Change Awareness Program March 18, 2024

VII. Other Materials Needed:

 Fertilizer
 Bins/trash bags
 Brochures about the importance of our environment
