60+ Central Hollywood Stars pitcher, Scott Dunham was on the mound for his teams game against the Kansas City Wranglers at Tempe Diablo Stadium Wednesday morning.
Wow what a week of baseball! And you can forget about tomorrow if you dont win today. For all practical purposes the playoffs have arrived for several teams who find themselves in a must win situation, or else they wont be advancing to the next round. In some cases even a win might not guarantee a spot in the playoffs for teams if their runs allowed are too high. The first tie-breaker is based on head-to-head competition. But that only applies when a team has played every team in the division. Teams in large divisions, that are in the middle of the pack, need to allow the least number of runs in order to advance. Theres a example listed in the managers packet that was handed out this past Sunday to all team managers. The playoff pairings will be posted on www.msblworldseries.com as soon as all the results from each division are completed. If your team has a discrepancy with the runs allowed for your team posted on the website or on the standings page, please call the WS office and correct it, ASAP. You wouldnt want to wait until the last minute. Saturday night the tournament hosts the World Series Awards Banquet, once again held at the Rustlers Rooste. This weeks guest speaker is former MLB player, Mike Gallego. The evening gets under way with cocktails at 6:30p and dinner is served starting at 7:00p. In addition to dinner, the MSBL will raffle off several bats and Rawlings top of the line gloves.
Remember - No Drinking or Tobacco products are allowed on or off the fields during the MSBL / MABL World Series.

MSBL / MABL World Series Spotlight on Mike Hutchison (50+ Quad City Blasters) Something about the heart of America, the MidWest. It makes you proud of the values you grew up with. And the game of baseball was more than the National Pastime. It was what everyone identified as America. Mike Hutchinson, manager of the Quad City Blasters has been playing and managing now with his friends from the heartland for 22 years. The core of his team has been together for a long time. As guys move away with job changes to other cities, new players come on board who share the same basic priorities. No aluminum bats for these guys. Men grow up coaching their sons, then stay involved as their grandsons learn the game. They share MaidRites and root beer. Everyone learns to play the various positions based upon how healthy they are at the time. Mike used to be a shortstop, then a catcher. These days its more first base and DH. But he is still deeply involved in the game. Playing in a small 18+ league at home, they pick up enough young guys to be competitive, show up every week and continue to love their time on the diamond. This is the part of the country where you might find a ballpark in the middle of a cornfield. Where kids began playing ball on empty lots with wooden bats that were repaired with small nails and electrical tape. Where the kid who had a real baseball was everyones best friend. Married for 41 years to his wife Pat, their 3 children have given them 8 grandchildren, the way it should be. Retired from UPS, Mike has taken the opportunity to play in other MSBL regional tournaments and enjoys making new friends through baseball. He says he might start umpiring next year. He recalls the World Series tournament when rain delayed so many games that his team got to play in the finals.at midnight. The family has always shared his love for baseball, and Mike remembers when one year in Arizona his junior high aged son was reluctant to leave the hotel hot tub. Seems a Hawaiian swim team was sharing that space and baseball somehow wasnt quite as important. Sit down and have a talk with Mike Hutchinson. You will get a real sense of what is good about our country. Bring your glove. Hed love to play a game of catch while you talk. MSBL / MABL World Series Spotlight on Gerry Mecca (continued from page 1) you inherit the leadership of a league that has a great tradition of excellent teams and winning championships, expectations are high. Especially when your first experience spoiled you. Remember to call in your teams score after the game at 602) 438-0242
